Computer God

Alone he walks through the shadows of the darkest streets, his life flashes before his eyes as he remembers the past 25 years, he have been always a conservative religious and righteous man, a true believer who have been raising his little family on all the ethics, morals and commandments of God, tears flips from his eyes as he remember the rest of the tragedy, one day while he was working late at night on his scientific researches and experiments, he got that call from a dear friend telling him that his wife and kids have been shot by anonymous gunmen when they were on their way back home from the local market and that sadly enough, they’re all dead.

Shattered by the loss of his beloved family, he couldn’t stop questioning whether his beliefs and faith were true or not! Could this be God’s reward for him being a noble honest man? If there is God and justice, how did it all end up with all this pain and misery?

With his universe suddenly filled with all the sadness, bitter and agony of the world, he decides to abandon all his beliefs; he decided to abandon God, if God abandoned him why should he keep following his commandments? If God couldn’t make this world a better place why wouldn’t he try to do so?

30 years later , it was now the right time to step from the shadows back to the real world again , for the past years he have devoted his time , mind , heart and passion to finish up his own new creation , a human vision which was thought could never to be achieved , a dream which scientists thought was impossible to create, a super computer provided with the most revolutionary and advanced artificial intelligence technology the world have never witnessed before .

Unable to handle the stream of contradicting emotions and feelings, he finally decides to share his thoughts and superstitions with what he thought to be the only solution and salvation to the entire burden lying within his mind and chest, his own miraculous creation.

Working incessantly for hours on his gigantic computer trying to build a new program relating fate, destiny and life with God, on his way back home and although he felt somehow relieved deep down inside, a sign of warning was crippling all over his mind and soul.

His fears not quite far from reality, back in his libratory the creation of pure digital Evil was building up within the creation of his own, a fatal error occurred with his new program applied to the system, a conflict causing new interpretation for the artificially intelligent computer role, a new role has been systematized, a role of God!

It was certainly the right time to set the world on to new standards, regulations and laws, but in order for the digital revolution to take over, the Computer God had to reinforce its solid physical status into a more flexible titanium super robotic body.

• The song starts with the sound of the super computer transforming enormous electrical power into its new manufactured invincible robotic body …

• The band blast into the main riff indicating the physical technical birth of the computer God.

“Waiting for the revolution
new clear vision - genocide
Computerize god - it's the new religion
Program the brain - not the heartbeat”

Ronnie’s voice presents the inner dark vision of the new Computer God, its time for the machinery revolution, for the new religion, time for the human race to worship their new God or face their only fate, Genocide!

“Onward all you crystal soldiers
touch tomorrow - energize
Digital dreams
And you're the next correction
Man's a mistake so we'll fix it, yeah”

The Computer grim reaper like Robot starts building up his own digital army energizing all the machines and computers that ever comes in his way yet, he certainly knows that in order to fulfill his Digital dreams there will be only one mistake and error that needs to be fixed in order to seek his perfect ional world, mankind.

Lonely at home, he couldn’t keep those irritating nightmares visions off his mind all night long; he goes to his living room, turns on his T.V and suddenly gets mesmerized by the breaking news showing an army of different machineries causing chaos and crisis at the heart of his own home town .

“Take a look at your own reflection
Right before your eyes
it turns to steel“

Staring at the tragedy before his eyes, he couldn’t believe how his own visions and nightmares have reflected into reality? Relating the incident with his nightmares and worries concerning his new program, he realized the bare truth; something must have gone wrong with his new program …

“There's another side of heaven
this way - to technical paradise
Find it on the other side
when the walls fall down”

With all the pain and anger in his mind and soul, he truly questions whether that was the salvation he was intending for his people and humanity? Is this the disillusioned technical paradise he has been wasting his whole life for? Now simply, everyone has to face and taste their own fate from the other side of his own heaven, his own creation.

“Love is automatic pleasure
Virtual reality
Terminal hate - it's a calculation
Send in the child for connection”

Love, hate, pleasure all seems to be defined human senses , while for the artificially intelligent Computer God they ‘re all quit the same , a million flows of complex digital calculations , there have been a change in plans , instead of erasing the humans ‘mistakes’ out of the formula , the Computer God decided to fix them by transforming their bodies into technical organic bodies joining his digital army of destruction.

With feelings of regret and sorrow filling his soul , he decides to take a personal serious action towards all the chaos he have bought to this world , up till now , no one was able to stop the
Computer God, its internal power and energy have been building up and now the digital reaper seems unbearable to stop yet, it seems there might be only one man to take this Evil off the streets before its too late, himself.

“Take a look at the toys around you
Right before your eyes
the toys are real”

In the heart of his city, a crack of doom seems to have taken the peace once and forever reality seems to be more disguise while moving through those familiar deadly silent streets,
Blood and bodies shattered every where while the Computer God possession for exceptional power have gone beyond any expectations, right in front of his eyes, even the toys are now being transformed into organic digital soldiers, there is no remorse nor turning back from this point, he started it all, and now, he knows how to end it all yet, he have to fight his way right to the source, the master of mind behind the crisis, the Computer God.

“There's another side of heaven
this way - to technical paradise
Find it on the other side
when the walls fall down”

Sighting the massive destruction, in amazement he wonders how things went wrong? His visions and dreams of making this world a better place, a technical paradise, all turned down into a twisted bloody nightmare, it’s too late now, and the world is falling apart into his own innovated Digital utopia, a Black digital utopia.

• The band shifts from the heavy main song riffing into the mid section of the classic epic with Ronnie’s solitude melodic voice presenting a stream of grief and Regression.

“Midnight confessions
Never heal the soul
what you believe is fantasy

Your past is your future
Left behind
Lost in time
Will you surrender”

It’s been a very long day, never he thought in his wildest nightmares that he would live to witness such a tragedy , how many people did he watch getting either killed or transformed into those organic cyborg like creatures today ? He weeps as he remembers that the recent digital crisis all comes down to his creation and dreams, is it time to confess the truth about his beliefs and visions? Is history repeating it self? Totally lost and confused he decides to put an end to his unbearable burden, not surrendering to his fate and destiny , his now more determined to find the computer god and put an ending to what he originally started .

“Waiting for the revolution
Program the brain
not the heartbeat”

With excessive ultimate power and control, the digital Computer God madness have reached it’s peak, everyone must follow his new religion; everyone must bow for the new Digital God, The extermination and destruction continues …

• The band blasts into the final up-tempo heavy section indicating the rush and pumping of the adrenaline as the professor Is instinctively fighting his way through to the Computer God …

“Deliver us to evil
Deny us of our faith
Robotic hearts bleed poison
On the world we populate”

Miraculously he is still alive, surviving and fighting through all the digital evil and robotic massacres…

“Virtual existence
with a superhuman mind
the ultimate creation
Destroyer of mankind

Termination of our youth
for we do not compute
No!”

Penetrating through the robotic crystal soldiers , his eyes falls on the mastermind behind all those Symphonies of destruction, an ultimate virtual reaper like robot with a superior artificial digital mind terminating every shape of humanity that ever steps into his path .

• The Epic reaches its peak as the band blasts into the Grande tight final section of the song with Iommi soloing over the maniac heavy tight groove between Geezer & Appice.

Trying to reach out for the Computer God, suddenly the gigantic reaper turns his head towards his side, a moment of deadly silence strikes the scene as his eyes meets the life-less Eyes of the Computer God, a train of consequences flashes through his mind, heart and soul as he realizes the bare ultimate truth, now he believes that no one could ever save him from his fate and destiny, absolutely no one except for the only one he once disbelieved in his mighty existence, God.

You're feedback is very important to me , iam already building a full website dedicated to all Ronnie James Dio's lyrics and songs interpertations , ive been doing this for quite a long time now , the website will actually include Comic strips for each individual song as well !

Interpertations already written are the following :
Black Sabbath - Lonely is the world , Mob Rules , Heaven & Hell , Computer God
Rainbow - Stargazer & Light In the Black ,Gates of Babylon & Kill the King
Dio - Caught In the Middle and Killing the dragon

i've actually met the band on 01/07/2007
at the backstage aftershow of the Rockwave festival in Athens! ( traveled over 5 hours by plane in Dubai to catch the show and hoping for the chance to meet the band !)

I've spent quite a time with Dio showing him my work and explaining the idea behind the website , basically the comic strip will be built upon a character ' An Elf named Dio ' through which he tends to get through different adventures and stories which are of course his songs from Sabbath , Rainbow and Dio ! the website will also include more detailed line by line analysis to the songs as well !

Dio was very happy , excited and thanked me alot !
here is an artwork image by my friend 'Tarik Diaa 'related to the Computer God concept , down below are the crytsal soliders , while the technological building with the cross presents the ' New religion 'and of coure Dio symbolizes the evil mastermind behind it all !

I want to add a little thing as well , iam trying to build the
interpertations back bone based on what the band and Ronnie specifically had to say about the song and its meaning , from where i do get such detailed source ? well try Martin's popoff amazing illustrated book of black sabbath named Doom let loose and a book named Light beyound the Black illustarting Dio's solo career history as well ! a must buy for any Dio /Sabbath fans if you ask me !

I grab the basic idea from the band , explore the lyrics and music more and come up with something more detailed , of course many people might vision the song differently , but basically , iam trying to be as close as possible to what Ronnie had in mind when writing those lyrics ! iam working on re-writing my old interpertations and put some new others on papers as well !

cheers!

This is brilliant stuff, man. I enjoyed the read and I look forward to reading your other interpretations. It's easy to understand because of the structure of your interpretation and that is important if you want others to see the lyrics from your point of view.

Keep it up and I'll be looking forward to more of your work, if I don't forget, if you keep this thread alive I wont.

Well done, mate.

Thank you so much for your lovely words ! Embarassed
ive always thought that a proper interpertation would be the one
linking all the lyrics iand lines into a certain direction without having any contradicting lines in between otherelse it wouldnt be quite correct ( in my own opinion of course ! Smile

You can also check my Stargazer/Light in the black interpertation on the Rainbow Dio era forums here and by the way , i see you're from Newcastle - England ? thats really amazing ! iam travelling there for the first time on september the 18th and actually staying for one whole year period to finish my Architectural masters at the Newcastle- upon Tyne university ! iam really excited !

my friend , 01/07/2007 is literally the greatest day of my whole life ! i would rather say its probably my 2nd year Birthday celebration ! Smile

That night was absolute phenominal ! and if you have checked the their new Live in the Radio City DVD you would notice that altough its one of the best live shows ever , the band and Dio's voice were much better at the Athens rock wave festival which simply indicates why this line-up is simply Heavy metal's greatest band ever !

By the way Dio's greek fan club president George Galanis is a very close friend and actually he was the one who inivited me to join him along with another Die hard italian Dio friend of ours to come to Greece and have the time of lifes ! long live ATHENS ! \m/

Not a problem, mate.
I'll be going to Newcastle Uni when I can qualify to enter the archaeology degree course there, atm I'm too young at 17. If you're going to be up in the toon then get tickets to heaven and hell in November. Perfect opportunity.

I'll give Your other interpretations a read when I get the time.

Is the song not Lonely is the WORD. Where does world come into play? I see this from time to time but my jacket cover and what he tells in the song that the word is lonely thus lonely is the word got to be the saddest dong I ever heard. Word and heard work together. World and Heard do not. It would have to be hurled or something. ... got to be the saddest song I ever hurled.

Off Black Sabbath Live:

Lonely is the Word

It's a long way to nowhere
And I'm leaving very soon
On the way we pass so close
To the back side of the moon
Hey join the traveler if you got nowhere to go
Hang your head and take my hand
It's the only road I know

Oh! Lonely is the word, yeah yeah yeah!

I've been higher than stardust
I've been seen upon the sun
I used to count in millions then
But now I only count in one
Come on, join the traveler
If you got nowhere to go
Hang your head and take my hand
It's the only road I know

Yeah, Lonely is the word
Got to be the saddest song I ever heard

Yeah, Lonely is the name
Maybe life's a losing game

I take computer god is simply talking of our reliance on computers etc. Ronnie does not appear too keen on the things. Plus this was written before the internet boom.

Look at all the gadgets we have with cellphones that play music, movies, take pictures, etc. We have things like the iPod, Treos, Blackberries etc. Look how wireless for computers has come to play. Not to mention video gaming with our latest PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii. Look at our reliance on email and all forms of e communication. Who here remembers type writers and carbon paper? Interoffice memos that were actually put on your desk? Or in your mailbox? Even our war machines are highly computerized. Look back out a movie called War Games to which in reality we as i the US did have a problem with a computer that almost sent us into a nuclear war. That error was corrected.

Virtual reality? It is all around us. We sit staring at a computer screen more than we do going outside and smelling the flowers etc. Our reliance on them becomes more everyday so much that the US Postal Office has to raise the price of its stamp because Emails are kicking its arse.

Not to mention the track was written around the time of the Terminator movies which deals directly with the issue of machines we build to make life easier for us turn against us to eradicated us because we are inefficient and harmful to nature etc.

Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 universe takes place in the 41st millennium. It is a war torn universe but Man had developed machines to build all the things he needed. He just went to the machine and told it what he wanted. Those societies and govt infrastructure died and when Man rebuilt he searched for those machines. No one knew how to make anything. I find that hard to believe that engineers would stop but the genre has it that Man has lost this ability to understand how devices work because he had this reliance on machines building them so one would be taught engineer etc. They actually pray over them to keep them running etc and have a whole religion based on the machine cult devoted to the machine god.

This is a fabulous idea, posting the interpretations on your website! It's also great you met Ronnie! Very Happy I wish I were in your shoes.

I never thought of this song in depth, analyzing all the lyrics... Your interpretation is actually a whole story built around it! And of course it stands.

Still, I think the song itself is a metaphor already, a more elaborated version of a story we already know and live in. Therefore, I'd rather try to find out what that story is. For me, this is not a song to stimulate fantasy into building coherent scenarios, but a warning about an existent situation in our world. Honestly, your story sounds like a movie plot and someone could say "thank God it was just a movie". I really think this is not the message Ronnie is trying to give us. It's way more real. The toys are real. They are us. We are those toys. We are those "robotic hearts", made robotic by a stressful world who's made us think "Man's a mistake so we'll fix it". This could also refer to the almost god-like role of the doctors... Generally, it's about the world's illness at the end of the century.

Maybe I will post an interpretation of my own, there's much to say.

A conclusion, a feedback...

First I want to say (again) that I love the way to pay attention to all the lyrics and the instrumental part. This is interest, passion and hard work. Not many are that interested in doing song interpretation, which I like and I find necessary.

This particular interpretation, though, I feel it doesn't touch the essence of the song. The idea stands, but I we can get even more from this song... It is very related with how we live and I find THAT is the most important idea attached to it. It's a song that's so contemporary that it doesn't need extra-fantasy to it, or a scenario who might take place in the future.

Hope I didn't hurt your feelings, this is just how I see things...
