I have only had the good fortune of seeing Dio Live 3 times, with 3 different guitar players.

For me, TracyG was my favorite guitar player out of the 3.

Then definitely Doug Aldrich.

Then Craig Goldy.

Those are the only 3 guitar players that I have seen Live with Ronnie, and actually, all of them kicked ass.

I have several of TracyG's other releases and like them as well, although the Curly Fester Blues thing was kinda strange.

that was tricky to me for a sec i thought the boll about guitarists in dio band so i picked tracy G, only noticed tony iommi after i pushed the bottun !

i think iommi would be the best guitarists worked with dio togather with the heaven and hell line up...

tracy tracy ! he's good, technics and riffs most important he rarely does mistakes on stage

I like all the guitarists that Ronnie worked with but if it comes to the best then it has to be Ritchie Blackmore.

blackmore is/was uncanny... on the 'deep purple 1970-72' dvd... on the 'mandrake root' track for instance... he's flailing the guitar around... and i swear... it's playing itself!

like i said, uncanny...

for awhile, the most i knew of blackmore was the stuff he did with rainbow in the '80s... and i thought he was a hack...

then i went back and checked out some of the deep purple, and early rainbow stuff... and he is a great songwriter!

he might not have the chops of some of the other guys... but as he's been known to say... a lot of it is about the 'energy' a person produces when they play... and blackmore is a wizard of the 6-string...

of the 'newer school' such as steve vai, i read an interview with blackmore where he basically said of that approach, "i like it better when both the player and the audience aren't sure if he's going to 'make it'"... i read that and agreed with it... with guys like vai you know they're going to 'make it'... with players like blackmore it's more of an adventure...

when dio made those two albums with campbell as guitarist... campbell must have been the top rock guitarist of the day... those albums are astounding...

i see where in 2003 campbell basically said he didn't like it... but if you check out his own website, he states that he basically went back and listened to those 2 records again, and appreciates them more, now

he lit the rock world up

I love Craig Goldy's work with Ronnie as a solo artist... But Tony Iommi has had such an influence on me with his playing, that I have to go with him.

I think Graig is honestly the best song "cowriter" who has worked with Dio, I just love Dream evil's songs.. All the fools or naked in the rain just really gives me the shivers Very Happy
