Yea, wasn't Gillan arrested (perhaps more than once) for drunken driving? Sheesh. Not good. I also agree that it's a "Lavender Haze" now, what with Lord gone as well. And even though I said that Gillan sounds good these days, that's definitely not to say that he sounds like he used to. He doesn't. I should have clarified myself on that one.

The Early Years is a MkI (Ritchie Blackmore; guitar, Jon Lord; keyboards, Ian Paice; drums, Rod Evans; vocals, Nick Simper; bass) compilation. Very good album. It's compiled from Purple's three first albums; Shades of Deep Purple, The Book of Taliesyn and Deep Purple (third album). After those three albums, they decided to do a lineup change (Evans --> Gillan and Simper --> Glover), and the rest is history. |

| Of course current Purple is not the same band that it was in the 70's, but it's still a great lineup imo. I'm a big fan of Jon Lord, but imo Airey does very good job replacing him (actually he can almost imitate Lord's organ sound if he wants to). And Lord wasn't too inpired in his last years in Purple. He contributed very little to Abandon album for example. |

What I mean is how can they call themselves Deep Purple still, when the important founding members of the band are gone (Blackers and Lord)? They don't seem to have the energy any more that they used to, the last few times I've seen them. I shan't see them again. They're playing at, is it Monsters of Rock? Or something else? Well, one of those festival things, and I'm worried they'll be laughed off stage. Or maybe not, and then I'll worry people are taking them seriously!

| i agree totally. yeah its monsters of rock. there supposed to be headlining it. sabbath and alice cooper are also supposed to be there. It wouldnt surprise me if everyone walks away from the deep purple act and listens to someone else. |

| I spent £30 going to see Deep Purple for the first time in 2004 and they were terrible. There was no passion in thier performance, Morse was just another guitarist, Gillan cant hit the high notes anymore, there was no Lord, Blackmore, No Magic. I would never go to see them again unless they were on first supporting Dio!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Let me put it this way: I'm glad having seen Deep Purple in the early 80's and 90's. - I doubt that I will be at another Purple concert again.

| I've seem Deep Purple 3 times, all in recent years with Steve Morse. They were outstanding twice, and off the mark the other time. I don't care that the albums they put out aren't as good as the "classic" stuff. Each one has a few good songs on it. Purpendicular was fantastic all the way through. Steve Morse re-invigorated the creative spark in that band after Ritchie ditched to go play folk music in tights. |

After seeing them on the Machine Head and Burn tours, all else is pale in comparrison.

i like that CD too. Steve is a good player. Thats funny about the tights. lol. But did you see what he gets to run around in the tights with?

Yeah, I know. She is quite beautiful. And her voice isn't bad either.

Call me crazy...but I feel that MkIII was the greatest lineup for Deep Purple. With the one-two punch of Coverdale-Hughes on vocals and the shift into blues and funk music...I thought they were awesome!
Burn is an amazing album! Although I have heard that Ritchie didn't like Stormbringer...I feel it's almost as good as Burn as well.
