I've been wondering about Dio's early Rainbow years, did he ever sing Smoke On The Water, Space Trucking, Burn or other Rainbow hits live with Blackmore? I think there is one old instrumental from pre-Gillian days on Onstage, but that doesn't count. _________________ Bass guitarists hold it all together. |

Yeah, that's right. Lazy was just a few bars used as an intro to Man On The Silver Mountain at most concerts.......instrumental.
To be honest I don't think his voice would've been right but I'd still love to hear Ronnie sing Child In Time. That'd be great |

I'm sure he would have ruled at it, but it's really hard to imagine anybody but Gillian doing justice to Smoke On The Water. I've had songs from Jesus Christ Superstar (the brown album with Gillian only, please) running through my head and he was really just fantastic - probably my favorite stuff he ever did. _________________ Bass guitarists hold it all together. |

never heard the Coverdale/Hughes version...liekd Burn a lot though, has been growing on me quite a bit liek Fireball has.
I'd love to hear Dio sing "Child in Time", doesn't seem like it'd be too hard for him either... _________________

Gillian had the most earth shattering scream ever. He sounded like a freakin' Marshall stack! _________________ Bass guitarists hold it all together. |

| I saw Deep Purple back in April on their UK tour and Gillan's still got it, definitely. He didn't attempt Child In Time admittedly but he still rules. Better voice than most out there, I was really surprised. |

aye, his voice is still above the norm for these times, but not as good as the '70s. _________________

I saw Gillan perform at the Royal Albert Hall supporting Judas Priest last year & i thought he was rather Boring.
i would say David Coverdale is better singer now. _________________

from what I heard of Coverdale on his last live release...I'd say Gillan has it more together. He has a "Fireball" feel to his voice still, Coverdale jsut made me cringe...
granted, I have yet to hear Ian live recently. _________________

He sounds like a pig who's caught fire. In the good way, though. _________________ It goes on and on. On and on it's Heaven and Hell all your life. |
