It doesn't make sense to me either and I've spoken English all my life.

I've heard somebody say once that the dancer is supposedly Ozzy, but I don't think that's true. Bleeding for somebody could have religious connotations, or it could be like fighting for somebody, bleeding from wounds from battle maybe. Again, I don't know exactly what it means. Dio is famous for his enigmatic lyrics. Probably somebody here will have a better idea of what it means.

Bleeds for the Dancer....can mean a lot of things...
But I think it means...no one has any sorrow for the dancer.

Sing me a song, you're a singer
Do me a wrong, you're a bringer of evil
The devil is never a maker
The less that you give, you're a taker
So it's on and on and on, it's heaven and hell
Oh well

The lover of life's not a sinner
The ending is just a beginner
The closer you get to the meaning
The sooner you'll know that you're dreaming
So it's on and on and on, oh it's on and on and on
It goes on and on and on, Heaven and Hell
I can tell
Fool, fool

Oh uh
Yeah, yeah, yeah

Well if it seems to be real, it's illusion
For every moment of truth, there's confusion in life
Love can be seen as the answer, but nobody bleeds for the dancer
And it's on and on, on and on and on and on and on and on and on

They say that life's a carousel
Spinning fast, you've got to ride it well
The world is full of kings and queens
Who blind your eyes and steal your dreams
It's heaven and hell, oh well

And they'll tell you black is really white
The moon is just the sun at night
And when you walk in golden halls
You get to keep the gold that falls
It's heaven and hell, oh no

Fool, fool
You've got to bleed for the dancer
Fool, fool
Look for the answer
Fool, fool, fool

These are the original lyrics of the song, before Ronnie add the "There is a big black....."etc

So as HM said told you can give a lot of meanings...
If you read the lyrics you will see that at the end Ronnie again says "You've got to bleed for the dancer"

I think that, he means that nobody cares for the dancer.
Love can be seen as the answer but nobody will give this love, because when you care about someone you sometime have to "bleed" for him/her...

That is how i get it, but as we said before it can have lot of meanings

Think of the Dancer as an artistic format.
Maybe, and this is my interperatation.

Ronnie felt that music as an art form was being forgotten

Nobody bleeds for the dancer would mean that no one was fighting for artistic integrity in music

At the end he says you've got to bleed for the Dancer
meaning stand up and fight for artistic integrity in music

Might not be what he meant, but I like the way it sounds so thats what I'm going to think.

I really think the first part before that line has a lot to do with "who" the dancer is... as we all know Ronnie writes a lot of contradition stuff and that being the case think of the opposite of what he said before..."love can be seen as the answer-but nobody bleeds for the dancer" you know love=GOD so the dancer=DEVIL
just like HEAVEN&HELL

Just my take on it from day one of hearing it. Confused Think about it...it fits.

I like this interpretation.

you interperate it like this, then you can go back to the lines GG was talking about and come up with this:

Well if it seems to be real its illusion
Pop music is what is considered to be good, but Pop artist are manufactured and although they seem talented on the surface, they are the product of someone else, an illusion

For every moment of truth theres confusion in life:
Heavy metal is looked down upon by popular culture as bad or evil, but the artists in the genre are typically very talented and not manufactured by the industry, they contradict popular belief of what talent is.

Love can be seen as the answer bu nobody bleeds for the dancer:
in the years before this song was written the hippie movement was very big in the USA. and people protested against societies conforming attitudes. but the flower children that preached peace and love had dissappeared and there was no one to defend the art of heavy metal

I don't know if Ronnie has ever publicly explained this song (I don't think he has), but I wonder if he had to explain it to Tony, Geezer or Bill when they were writing the song.

the way i see it.it means that nobody gives love or even respect the dancer.
COULD IT BE LIKE THIS:
Dio says that there should be love as an answer, meaning that everybody respect and love each other.but when someone is important and serious he/she finds the Dancer a lower calss than them so they don't respect the dancer and this way love isn't among all and there will still be differences between people.

Everyone loves the dance he/she is performing, but no one actually cares about him/her.

And, Ronnie has said that Heaven and Hell is about life.
So, I see that this line means that people can appreciate what you do, but they don't give a shit about YOU. You can always be replaced! Nobody bleeds for you, dancer; they can bleed for seeing you dance. Not for you.

-BAD EXPLANATION but ask more if you didn't get the point there.

i can't articulate my thoughts...i'll try again later, but it deals with weaving an illusion through dance that distracts people, but those that are enraptured will not bleedwilingly for the one casting the spell, through dance (metaphor for anything, but most poetic).

Love can be seen as the answer, but nobody bleeds for the dancer...

I think it simply means that people want to be loved or respected for who/what they are,but no one really do anything to deserve that love/respect.

As he sings later
Fool ,fool you got to bleed for the dancer..

Meaning If you want love and respect you got to earn it.
