I hope they won't be remastered, because if it happens I need to spend money again.
This is the point I was making before. Most remasters are intended more to take your money than to make the music sound better. A couple of things to keep in mind:
1) They can't do anything about the quality of the original multitrack recording
2) They can't do anything about the balance of the instruments unless they're doing a re-mix and trust me, you don't want them to do that.
Basically what they do when they remaster an old recording is they jack all the levels way up to give it an impression of "loudness". However the increased levels creates spikes which can damage audio equipment when played at high volumes, so they then add a ton of compression to squash all the dymanic range out of the recording. They also like to re-EQ it with increased emphasis on the bass frequencies because the modern listener isn't happy unless his floor is vibrating.
I have a friend who has some of the Iron Maiden re-masters as well as a re-mastered copy of Rainbow's rising. When comparing them side-by-side we were appalled by how bad the re-masters sound. The compression leached all the space and ambience right out of the old recordings (these were all originally produced by Martin Birch and therefore the originals have a fair amount of dynamic range) and the bass boost just made them sound muddy.
Trust me, you're better off with what you've got. Bob Dylan recently said in an interview "modern production makes records sound bad". I'm inclined to agree with him. |

I have found on one of the auction services "Dio - Magica" released by Nobel Price. Is it somekind of remaster or what? The cover differs form the Spitfire's, though.

Yeah, the current Maiden remasters are pure shit. Its a wonder they can even attain new fans with their catalog sounding like that. |

I'm happy I got the first load. That re-issue cover looks like nothing!! _________________ --- BURN (Dutch Heavy Metal) ---

No, no, no! Dream Evil, maybe. LUTW sounds fantastic! Its perfect. All they'll do if they remaster it is slam the levels, make it loud as hell and squash out the dynamics and musicality. LUTW is probably the best mastered of the Dio cd's. Absolutely nothing wrong with that one. |

Ok..But what i dont like about them is that the sound is lower than the other albums. So if i am listening to Strange Highways or Killing the dragon or whatever and then turn on Dream Evil the volume is suddenly too low,or the other way the songs from the new albums too load.
If all they do when remastering is boosting up the level,i dont know what would happen to Dream evil,it already sounds over boosted almost distorted..They should probably mix it all over again. If they added more bass it would suck.
and i prefer the original Rainbow Rising,it sound so much better than the remaster. |

That's what the volume knob is for.
There are some decent graphical representations of what modern overly loud mastering does to music here.

Yes,im aware of the voulme knob..
But i like to keep it at the same level.I listen to Dio while sleeping and i cant have it too load..So when using mediaplayer or dvd-rs with several albums playing after each other, its hard to find the right volume..if i turn the volume aftr Killing The dragon, the volume gets too low when songs for Dream evil are playing and its really annoying since i cant really hear it all. Then if i turn the volume after the Dream Evil album the volume is too high when playing the Killing the Dragon album and i cant get too sleep cause i get in this rock n roll mode,i feel like i have to get up again.. |

While sleeping?
But you're talking about listening to compliations you make yourself, right? If you're burning files to make a cd, you can use "normalization". It will take all the files and adjust them to a similar average volume. Then everything will be roughly the same loudness. |

Yes i know, but i mostly use the media player on my computer to playback the files.Dont feel like editing the files...
Having Dio or any other great music playing at any time makes me sleep better.
I always have music playing, its always on repeat.Even when i go on vacations..Its a great feeling when coming home and the first thing you hear when you open the door is great music. |
