Stargazer is the best!!!!!!!
iv said it before Ritchie brings out the best in the people he plays with.

The long fade out at the end of stargazer is simply magic, really does sound like Ronnie was going with the moment and improving.

I See A Rainbow Rising!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awsome.

Until just about two weeks ago the only thing of Dio's I'd ever heard was his Black Sabbath stuff (Hey, I'm somewhat young), and never even knew he was previously in Rainbow. Out of curiosity I looked around youtube, interested to hear what Rainbow with Dio sounded like.

The first thing I found was a fanmade video for Stargazer- http://youtube.com/watch?v=B4-vUgc2oIY

Is it too early for me to say it's now my favorite hard rock song ever? I mean, God, where to begin? It's got just this driving, relentless force behind it (the closest comparison that comes to mind is "Kashmire" or "When the Levee Breaks" by Led Zeppelin) that doesn't let up for a second. And the lyrics; yes, Dio is an absolutely incredible singer with a unique voice, but I don't think he gets near the credit he deserves as a lyricist. His delivery is perfect too, so emotional (especially at the end fade-out).

Needless to say, after playing the song over-and-over for a good hour, I went on amazon.com and ordered the first two Rainbow albums. I also sent the link to a close friend who'd never even heard of Rainbow before (I was at least aware of the song "Since You've Been Gone" from the post-Dio years), and she was completely blown away as well.

I'll just close by saying that I live in upstate New York, and it's a damn shame they don't ever play this song on radio up here. This is a song from '76 that puts everything out now to shame!

Well said, my friend.
An amazing song, in fact Rainbow Rising is probably my favourite album ever. Mainly because of Stargazer of course. My dad gave me the best of Rainbow and kept telling me to listen to it and after giving in I fell in love with Cool
As you said the vocal delivery is amazing and you're right about him not getting enough credit as lyricist. Classic.

Its a great great shame that Stargazer wasn't on the setlist when they filmed the Munchen 77 concert....

Would have loved to have seen a filmed performance of this song, a high quality footage that is, not like the bad quality on the '76 Houston footage.

Stargazer is a gem. The first time I heard it was on an old radio program called Metal Shop. Remember the buzzsaw intro, and then "M-M-M-M-Metal Shop". Anyone else remember this program? Does it still exist? They had a part of the program called Master Classic, where they would play some old classic metal tune, and that was where I first heard Stargazer. I used to tape the program whenever it was one, and I loved the Stargazer song so much, I kept that tape and listened to it over and over. This was probably around 1986 and I would have been 12 or 13.

baka_gaijin30, I was in that boat once upon a time. Or rather one I would rather be in even less. I had only Heard Holy Diver and Rainbow in the Dark. Although I respected Dio's vocal skills, his talk of Riding Tigers and Rainbows in The Dark didn't sit well for a teenager who didn't want Role models that end up doing what I'd call an out of the closet fancrush like what happened to my old man when he Met Rob Halford at a Restaraunt in Arizona..... So like a teenage Douchebag I avoided delving into Dio's library. Thanks to the song Kickapoo on the Tenacious D movie however I deceided to say "screw it" to my inhibitions.

Rainbow is perhaps my favorite band now.

I am in the Stargazer club for some time... Very Happy Anyway I LOVE the intro of this topic - that honest exclamation, that need to understand!... Very Happy Laughing

You can check this forum for some Stargazer-interpretations-madness, because this song completely blew our mind. It not only has some heartbreaking and mystical lyrics, fabulous melody and voice, crazy phrases, high notes, crazy drumming, brilliant, haunting guitar work and a rainbow above all, but it also has that rare inspirational quality which makes people who listen to it have a burst of imagination and create and dream and narrate over and over about the Stargazer-wizard and this magical song!

Now out of curiosity... did you just discover this song?

Yet another Stargazer admiration thread, and why not? It is an amazing song and it deserves all the attention for years to come.
