I think that St.Anger is a great album!
Just as good as any other album they've done. |

i have started listening to metallica again a bit lately although i am not a huge fan. I only like they first four albums with my favorites being Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning (the opening riff to the title track is brilliant).
The vocals piss me off sometimes though, he is not the best vocalist. |

| My one problem with Metallica is that they're nowhere near as good as people make them out to be. The Black Album, Master Of Puppets and Ride the Lightning are good but after that I'm not bothered. |

| Thing is Hetfield's vocal style is different on Load/Reload/Garage INc then Ride The Lightning/Master of Puppets. He blew his voice on the black album tour and had to sing in another way, it's better if you ask me because, it's not all high pitched and screaming, on The Black Album itself was good. Hard to think it's the same singer on all their albums. That's my opinion right there. |

has anyone heard the instrumental work by Metallica before?
I actually think Mr Hammet's overuse of the wah wah peddle is excellent, the way he incorperates it into alot of his works.
But I must say James Hetfield's rythm owns the hell out of Kirk's soloing. Hetfield is also a known user of the hybrid picking technique.

I don't know if there ias already a thread on this, either there isn't one or I wasn't paying attention so here goes.
So, are there any Metallica fans here, excluding myself of course, can't start a thread and keep it alive by simply discussing with yourself can you.
Excellent band, I like bits of all the albums they've done, I like all 8 songs from the album "Master of Puppets" but I got to say, Load is a close contender for no 1 on my list so :p. Load is around the time they alternative and experimental but I still love the album and nobody can change it. I might just cross the line and say St Anger was decent, just remater the damn thing, better bass guitar, heavier rifs, some witty solos and double bass drums instead of snare.
I've seen a load of their live videos, I have just as many Metallica DVDs as my dad has of DIO. Pretty weird that I like 2 bands with totally different styles of music. I like James's voice just a much as Ronnie's almost. They have had some top notch material bassists though, Cliff Burton was just awesome and although he died at such and early age he could of been like the Jimmi Hendrix of bass.
Jason Newsted is another bassist that kicks assage, it's hard to decide which one I prefer more as Newsted did more work with Metallica and his tone for his basslines was freaky. The distortion he used when playing live sounded like something from Jeff Wayne's albums. He was fricking huge though, shame about the accident he had in October, see, he tried to catch a falling bass amp head that weighed 90 lbs and screwed some ligaments in both shoulders he wont be playing bas again for Voivod or Supernova til summer.
I like Robert Trujillo too, some of his work with Ozzy was very crafty and his bass solos that open up for the song "For Whom The Bell Tolls" are amazing.
I like these guys, they maybe over rated, the drummer maybe a pure asshole but they're excellent now and then. |
I'm not a 'tallica fan now but sure did wear out
MOP and AJFA and RTL back in the 80's. They
were a heavy new sound. Would prefer to
remember them than promote them now. |
I second that vote!!! except you forgot "kill'em all" and speaking of the album kill em' all how come the song "am I evil" is not on the cd and it has not been on it for some years now any one know the answer that song was bad ass _________________ lucifer was just an angel led astray |

It's on Garage Inc. They've struggled the trial of time alright, especially the vocalist but they're still one of heavy metal's best. plus they got Robert Trujillo, he did well with Ozzy and has already surpassed his predecessor by being able to play Orion. He has one hell of a style.
Garage Inc is a brilliant album and I much prefer the deeper tone SINGING than the high pitched screaming from KEA AND RTL. Load/Reload ftw |

I'm not a real Metallica fan, I do like a few songs of them though ... funny thing is ... in July they're goin to come to Austria and I didn't really want to go. But a friend of mine wanted me to and so I agreed. And now, after checking the Tour dates of Dio I realized, that Dio and Bullet for my Vallentine are appearing on that show too! Amazing right? _________________ For those about to rock, I salute you!! |

Isn't Metallica kind of like the 500 pound gorilla sitting in the corner of Heavy Metal? They're so big, it's easy to forget they're there. And if you do, you might regret it.
Like the Beatles they really defined a style of music. They may not be arguably the best musicians in metal but it doesn't make any difference because they always deliver high-quality product with a unified vision. They've been through their changes, and you can't blame them for trying something a little different. Hard working sons-of-bitches - hat's off to you! _________________ Bass guitarists hold it all together. |

Another tribute album to Metallica will be published on the 23rd of October, by Vitamin Records. What's special about that ?
Well something different came up "...And Christmas For All! The Holiday Tribute To Metallica". All the songs will have a Christmas sound. Something like a Santa Claus covers Metallica.
A first taste of that you can get from :
http://www.vitaminrecords.com/web/page.asp?pgs=product&catid=25&id=1291
The Christmas track list is:
01. Nothing Else Matters
02. For Whom the Bell Tolls
03. One
04. The Unforgiven
05. Fade to Black
06. Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
07. Wherever I May Roam
08. Master of Puppets
09. Battery
10. The Call of Ktulu

According to eFestivals.co.uk, METALLICA and RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE are rumored to be two of the three American headliners slated to perform at this year’s Reading and Leeds Festivals, which will happen, as usual, in England over the August Bank holiday weekend — from Friday, August 22 to Sunday, August 24.
METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich recently spoke with Revolver magazine about the band’s ninth studio album, which is expected out later this year and will be its first all-new effort since 2003’s "St. Anger". Ulrich told the magazine that the group’s new material "is certainly a lot more dynamic and a lot more varied than the last couple of go-rounds," adding, "There’s a lot of light and shade in these songs. There’s heavy, fast, nutty stuff, and then there’s some slowdowns and musical interludes." Ulrich also said that the album has more in common with some of the group’s ’80s releases than more recent offerings like "St. Anger" and "Load".
Ulrich wouldn’t agree that the yet-to-be-titled disc is a full-blown return to the past, saying, "I hate to be that specific, because six months from now people are gonna go, ’What the fuck? Lars lied to us!’ But it feels that way to me."
The drummer also revealed that producer Rick Rubin, working with the band for the first time, wanted METALLICA to use classic efforts like "Ride the Lightning" and "Master of Puppets" as "reference points" for its new songs. _________________ Video games are bad for you?
