Simon Wright will step into help out UFO...after Andy Parker broke his ankle by slipping on a wet floor. After two hospital appointments Andy had surgery today and now has a plate and some screws in his ankle. Needless to say, he won't be ready to play the UFO tour in March. We are all very upset about this.
"After much discussion between Andy and the other bandmembers the decision was taken to go ahead with the tour and play the March dates with a replacement drummer. Our good friend Simon Wright (DIO, ex-AC/DC) was kind enough to step in immediately — thanks mate!
"As many of you will know, Simon toured with UFO on the 'Walk On Water' tour (no pun intended!) and we're sure you'll join with us in thanking Simon for keeping the tour on schedule and in wishing Andy a speedy and comfortable recovery.

Cool, thanks for the beautiful news, Gary!!!
UFO played a few months ago here in Italy but, unfortunately, I didn't go to see them... I hope soon they'll come here in Italy again!!!

Simon Wright has issued the following update:
"Since I have been back from the UFO tour [filling in for an injured Andy Parker] I have been working my butt off. It's not all parties and shows, management makes me work too. Of course my favorite part is seeing all the really cool fans that come to my page and getting to spend what little time I have in front of a computer to tell you all how much I really appreciate you coming to visit.
"The HEAVEN AND HELL show was in Los Angeles this week and I have to tell you, if it's coming to a town near you soon, you better make your way over to support my great friend Ronnie James Dio. Best show ever! I have also been doing a lot of interviews about my DVD that is now out. You can check out one of the interviews [here: Part#1, Part#2].

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTFtFen80KI
"As for making music, I have been considering doing some producing and session work for some friends and as always, you never know when I will show up at a club to play a set." |

Heaven and Hell’s US run kicked off April 22 in Phoenix, AZ at the Dodge Theatre, and shortly after, the guys brought the show onto Los Angeles, playing the Forum with a comfortably full house. The sound board was full of metal icons, with James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich and Robert Trujillo from Metallica, the Foo Fighters, Izzy Stradlin from Guns N’ Roses, Mike Inez from Alice in Chains, REO Speedwagon, Rob Zombie and John 5, Jeff Pilson from Foreigner, Chuck Garric from Alice Cooper, Doug Aldrich from Whitesnake, and of course Craig Goldy, Simon Wright and Rudy Sarzo from DIO all in attendance. The party continued on in Ronnie's dressing room after the show…in true decadent rock fashion!
The release date for the live DVD recorded in New York City is 28th August 2007 worldwide, so get ready for live performance from the dark side from Ronnie, Tony, Geezer and Vinny! |

Dio Guitarist Craig Goldy Joins Hydrogyn
By Newsferatu, Writer

Current Dio guitarist Craig Goldy has announced that effective immediately, he will be joining melodic hard rock band Hydrogyn. Craig Goldy states "While Ronnie is touring and recording with Heaven and Hell I am proud to announce my journey with Hydrogyn. I am looking forward to writing, recording and touring with them during the all too often well known "hiatus" of the band Dio.
It's quickly become much more than a one-off situation with Hydrogyn. During the negotiation process involved in our mutual desire to work together, we forged a strong bond that I believe will continue well into the future in all aspects of an endeavor such as this one has become.
Upon Ronnie's return I will be anxiously awaiting the writing, recording and touring that will follow and highly anticipating an awesome CD release along side my family Ronnie, Rudy, Simon and Scott. Until then I will be operating at my fullest potential with Hydrogyn with whom I've also been honored to form a long-term friendship with and build an alliance with DA Records and my program Destiny Bridge. It is my sincere hope and desire to continue in this capacity long into the future.
Hydrogyn founding guitarist Jeff Westlake states: "guitarist Jeff Boggs's departure is due to family commitments and we totally appreciate and understand it. Craig coming into the band is awesome and I look forward to what is ahead both professionally and personally with Craig. I have had time to get to know him and we click very well. This next CD should be off the hook.
The band is currently in writing sessions in both the East and West Coast for Hydrogyn's new upcoming 3rd studio cd, the follow-up to the bands incendiary Bombshell CD.
Hydrogyn will support the release of their new studio CD with major touring worldwide. _________________ Calcitra Clunis |

I love the news of Craig joining the band...and know there is a friendship with Jeff....but I would have loved for him to have joined Stream of Passion instead...but that just me being selfish on my part...anyway Stream of Passion are not taking anymore submissions for their new Guitarist...I know Arjen Lucassen is a hard act to follow...but I believe Craig Goldy has enough talent to fill these shoes.
Looking forward to the new release...by Hydrogyn even more now. |

Jed Gottlieb of BostonHerald.com recenty conducted a short interview with legendary heavy metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio (BLACK SABBATH, DIO, RAINBOW, HEAVEN AND HELL).
BostonHerald.com: When you joined SABBATH did you do anything to foster a devilish reputation like sleep in a coffin or drink blood?
Dio: I've always tried to be a private person. My personal life and my family's life was nobody's concern but my own. I didn't think that my family should ever have been drawn into a controversial situation where they think they are either married to or a child of the devil. I always felt the less people knew about you the more legends they would create about you. I'm sure half of the people who care about me think I am the devil. The other half think I'm some kind of angel.
BostonHerald.com: It seems like you have a pretty good sense of humor about your career judging from the TENACIOUS D song about you and your appearance in their movie.
Dio: I know I can sing and write well, but I don't think I'm better than anybody else. That's always helped me not be so serious. Therefore, it's OK to take the mickey out of myself by doing the TENACIOUS D picture. I did that because Jack (Black) is a friend and I love his sense of humor. If you want to be an American icon you need to be part of a "Spinal Tap" moment.
BostonHerald.com: Did you really popularize the heavy metal devil horns?
Dio: That's what they tell me. I didn't invent it; it was probably a signal given by some guy named Og a hundred thousand years ago in a cave. I got it from my grandma who came from Italy and would flash that sign at people she thought were giving me the evil eye.
BostonHerald.com: Did popularizing devil horns give you a free pass into the Heavy Metal Hall of Fame?
Dio: It does give me a free pass. The only problem with it is that you see it everywhere now. You go to a BRITNEY SPEARS concert and they're chucking the thing up in the air. I've done a couple things in my life that were sensible. One was accepting the role of being the person noted for the devil horns. Two would be doing the TENACIOUS D movie. The third one was doing "South Park". If you want to be an American icon you have to have a "South Park" done on you. ... Those are the three things that go on my tombstone.

Former bassist with QUIET RIOT, OZZY OSBOURNE, WHITESNAKE and longtime friend of the band, Rudy will play until Ronnie James Dio returns from touring with HEAVEN AND HELL (Rudy is the current bassist in Ronnie's band DIO). |

J. Bennett of Decibel magazine (web site) recently conducted an interview with legendary heavy metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW, HEAVEN AND HELL). An excerpt from the chat follows:
Decibel: Did you ever get the feeling from Tony [Iommi] and Geezer [Butler] that they had a sense of relief about not being tied into the Ozzy Business for a change [with HEAVEN AND HELL]?
Dio: You know, I couldn't really speak about the business part of it. I don't know what their business structure was or how much they enjoyed it. But musically, I know they were relieved to be able to go out and onstage and compete with other bands and be proud of it. I think it's been difficult for them because for the last 15 years they've played "War Pigs" and "Iron Man" over and over and over again. And these are things that they say in interviews, so I'm not putting words in their mouths. I think they — especially Tony — wanted to take more musical chances and revisit something that was exciting for them. They'd had enough "Iron Man".
Decibel: They didn't bitch about Sharon even a little bit?
Dio: Oh, no — we don't have those kinds of conversations. This is nothing to do with Sharon or Ozzy. This is what we're doing, and we just concentrate on doing the best we possibly can. I don't ask them anything about Sharon, and they don't ask me questions like that, either. I think that's a private matter, really. I know everyone thinks there's a problem between Sharon and everyone else in the world, but it may not be true. So we don't bother with that. It's not important to us.
Decibel: Has there been any discussion about doing a HEAVEN AND HELL album?
Dio: Well, there's always discussion about that. When we wrote the three songs for "The Dio Years", it went so well for us that it became obvious that it'd be pretty damn easy for us to do that. But we never said a thing about it because we wanted to put a timeline on this. Unlike the war, we have a timeline. So when we finish in December, that's it/ I have commitments with DIO; I know Tony and Geezer have things to do, and I know SABBATH's 40th anniversary is coming up, too, so I'm sure they'll do something with that as well. But we wanted to put some finality to this. It's a lot better this way. Should something happen down the line, well… there we are. But I can understand the question because we did those three songs and people think, "Hell, SABBATH haven't even done one in the time they've been back together." I think they actually did do one or two, but whatever they've done certainly didn't reach the quality, I think, of what we did on these three tracks. So people want more, but you know, we have to be careful with all of this. I love my own band a lot, and I don't want to not play with them again. DIO did an album called "Magica", and our next album is going to be a double-album: "Magica 2" and "3". I wanna finish it before I quit this damn business. So the last thing on my mind is doing another SABBATH album at this point. _________________
