| not to diminish the others but rising is my favorite...it was also the first rainbow album I ever heard...Iwas a Dio/sabbath fan in 1982...Iwas only 16...& had not heard of Rainbow...when I heard Rising I instantly recognized Ronnie's voice...I was trippin on somme wicked blotter...I still remember what a rush it was to here that album the first time! |

Hard question. I love them all, but I think "Rising" is my favourite. I LOVE "Run With the Wolf", "Stargazer", etc.
And I can't not mention the great Ken Kelly cover.
A CLASSIC hard rock album. _________________ Nice day for a crucifixtion. |

And while we're talking about "Rising", I have to mention that I think it was a HUGE influence on subsequent metal sub-genres...not only power metal but also black metal. Think about it...The occult themes, the rushing feel of the music, the classical flourishes.....only played a thousand times better, of course. I can see how a band like Emperor might have taken inspiration from Dio-era Rainbow, especially "Rainbow Rising".
Now that I think of it, I really love the first album, too. _________________ Nice day for a crucifixtion. |

I think you may be stretching with that Black Metal reference, but there is a small, miniscule similarity...but, i doubt it was a big influence. _________________

Yeah, maybe it WAS a bit of a reach. Most BM is probably more influenced by Venom, Bathory, Celtic Frost, etc.
I could make a case for a lineage, sort of, as bands like Venom were originally influenced by classic hard rock and metal like Deep Purple and Priest, and, no doubt, Rainbow as well, but, as you said...It would be a bit of a stretch.
I think RJD would ultimately see his work as more "positive" than most BM bands, anyway.

I like the first one best. Man on the Silver Mountain is probably my favourite RJD song of them all, and I love Temple of the King and Sixteenth Century Greensleeves, too. _________________ --Turin Turambar |

I seem to be in the minority here but i like the first album best too. Probably because i feel that Rising is too short with only 6 songs, and Run with the wolf, isnt even that good compared to the rest, whereas the first album has many good songs _________________ If I speak at one constant volume. at one constant pitch. at one constant rhythm.
