Regardless about how he sounds on stage (which I think is fantastic) he will clearly be able to keep recording in the studio indefinately.
I wish someone would fire off a memo to Sabbath though.
Note to Sabbath: You don't need to try to "sound like Sabbath" by writing plodding material. "The Devil Cried" is nice and heavy, but Shadow of the Wind needs help.
"Ear in the Wall" is of course effing awesome. |

Okay, now I can say first hand, after seeing 2 shows, 2 nights in a row, that in regards to Ronnie's voice, the man is as strong as ever. I was totally blown away. His range is fucking amazing and I have walked away a bigger fan than before which I didn't think was possible. His voice never cracked, there was never a point where he didn't hold a note till the end....Danimal77, you are dead wrong that Ronnie has lost it. You may have seen a video when he had a cold, which he told me he had in Canada for about 3 shows.
These nights he had no problem and the fans were going nuts.
Ronnie, thank you for your dedication to the music and your fans...you completely and totally rock!!! |
Did you go to the recent Forum show? It was a great show. I loved the stage and the background that they had. I was disappointed in the amount of people that kept walking up and down the damn aisles to get beer bumping me. I mean hello you didn't do this for the other two acts. I understand people want to enjoy it but if you want to drink beer you can much cheaper at home for less than 10 bucks a beer and if you want to spend half the time with your back to the LIVE performance then wait for the damn DVD to come out is August.
If people think I am being an ass go to a classical concert and see how its audience treats the performers. It may be acoustics but you don't have people constantly moving about getting shit at the consessions stand disrupting other people's enjoyment of the same show.
As to his voice there was at least one track where his head tilted back, mouth opened, but I heard nothing. Do I feel he has lost it? Hardly. His voice is an instrument that he has to learn to adjust depending on the night. His instrument is biological which may need to simply rest to heal while the rest of the instruments do not. I have collected shitloads of boots going way back to Rainbow and he has had off nights here and there during every tour. I would expect that with any singer. I simply cherish the highlights more because of that. For some I simply have to sit down for a minute.
More power to ya Ronnie and thanks. See ya in 08. _________________ Smacks & Manly Thumps,

No, Ronnie's voice isn't quite what it was fifteen to twenty years ago but that doesn't mean it's terribble. In fact far from it. In many ways I prefer the tone he has now especially singing for Sabbath which a much lower and 'evil' voice really suits the sort material he and Iommi have made over the years.
Admittedly HDL did seem to show signs of him losing it but from what I've heard more recently it seems like an off night. Besides that was one of the best music DVDs I've ever seen; the vocals still top all those out there today (with the exception of Halford and Dickinson). It's been a long time since I've honestly heard a singer who has a really excellent voice. A shame.
Anyway it's a miracle the man can still record and tour as much as he does. I can only hope to have half the energy he has nowadays when I'm 65. He's definitely got a few years leff if these videos and Master Of The Moon are anything to go by.

| i personaly don't think Dio's voice changed at all,it's just that now he sings a bit harder and he changes his tune with the music and how he finds it suitable with the music. |

I didn't go to the show in LA...I went to Albuquerque then Denver. I was screaming so loud in NM that I couldn't talk for days...I saw the show in Denver from the soundboard next to the stage, and as cool as that was, I didn't enjoy the show nearly as much because I wasn't facing the band...But it did give me the opportunity to really listen because I wasn't so taken by the visual.
I think it must have been a sound issue because I noticed a few times Ronnie standing in front of Vinny, obviously belting out something beautiful...not lyrics but singing, and there was no sound. I was close enough to know that for whatever reason, his voice just wasn't being picked up, and because he was so completely f'ing incredible when he sang everything else, I know it wasn't him but some equipment problem...but who the hell am I to say anything about him? I don't know shit. _________________ "...you were a fool but that's cool, it's alright!" |

Well I don't think you are a noboby but I have brought up equipement before. Why? Because on listening to different boots from different decades and bands he does sound different. So I wondered what kind of equipement he was using since in many Rainbow instances he sounds like he is in some acoustics hall. It is really fucking amazing. His speaking voice also sounds deeper than it used to be. When I saw him in 98 in Riverside the same thing happened. He tilted his head and no sound. Me and a friend looked at one another. That was the second show on that tour. I had read he had some kind of throat surgery before the tour started.
I by all means do not feel he is washed up at all. I just dont expect him to have the best nights every night he goes out. If he is doing 3 shows/1 night off rinse repeat that is going to be wear and tear on his vocal chords. It would for anyone. He is human. Tony can thrash the shit out of his guitar and it is just a machine. Ronnie's voice though cannot be handled in that manner.
Last I heard you were living in SoCal hence why I asked if you went to the LA show or not. _________________ Smacks & Manly Thumps,

I'll be sincere...
When Ronnie came to Kiev, I feared I'll see only the shadow of Dio. I feared... I simply feared.
But when I saw him on stage... when I heard his voice full of passion... his voice that remained the same voice I heard on CD! He looked really WONDERFUL!
and then after the show, when my friends and I, we met him near his hotel... when the time has come to say goodbye, I begin to sing the refrain of "Stargazer", and he sang it, too! Without microphone, without speakers... it was like a bomb explosion!!!
yeah, Ronnie still rocks, his voice is still great! no more comments _________________ I'll carry on to do it right, or... get out! (c) Cozy Powell
