I was watching the VH1 special on Heaven & Hell, for the third time, and one question keeps coming to mind. Normally when a band is inducted to the hall of fame, it has to be 25 yrs from the first released album, but includes the bands entire history. Thats why Sammy Hagar was able to go and accept Van Halens induction this year. Even though the brothers and DLR didnt show.

In the VH1 special Geezer is asked about the name, and he says that since they reunited with Ozzy and got into the hall of fame, they didnt think it was right to go out as Sabbath. Dio was part of Sabbath so what would getting into the hall have to do with anything. Dio should be part of that.

Unless Sharon got the hall to do what they havent done before, and rewrite history. There should be no problem with Dio being the singer for Black Sabbath on this tour.

I have never been to the hall even though I live 25 minutes from it. I have always felt that they inducted so many that didnt deserve it, while turning away legitimate Hall of Famers.

If Dio is in I may break my vow to not go to the hall, just to see an exhibit with him in it.

Does anyone know?

as far as I know, and when I went two or three years ago he wasn't in, he is not in any exhibit there.

maybe the new Black Sabbath one, I haven't seen it, so idk...but, my guess is he isn't.

here is the link to the the sabbath listing for the rock hall. It sounds like a bunch of BS to me. They do mention Heaven and Hell, but nothing about who sang on them.

http://www.rockhall.com/inductee/black-sabbath

Now look at Van Halens listing, It mentions all three singers by name.
http://www.rockhall.com/inductee/van-halen/

If the exhibit is the way the listings are, then that would mean Gary Charone is in and Dio is not.

Im going to invetsigate this further.

Maybe they just wanted to call it Heaven and Hell.

Here is what I sent to the Rock Hall:

I have noticed that ther is no mention of Ronnie James Dio as a singer for Black Sabbath. I was planning on coming to the museum so I started looking at the website. It has always been my understanding that when a group is inducted that it includes all of the members of that group. In fact, when I look at the info on Van Halen it lists all of the vocalists. Black Sabbath on the other hand does not. Does this mean that the vocalists that performed and recorded with Black Sabbath have been omitted from history? I'm a little confused by this.

Gary Cherone is not included in Van Halen as an inductee to the RARHOF. Hagar is because Van Halen was very successful with both singers as far as sales and their careers go.

Black Sabbath's induction only includes the four original members. This lineup put out the most albums, 8, under the name and has the highest sales. This lineup has also had the largest impact on other bands that came later. It also prior to the induction had reunited and been touring for many years.

Ronnie was not included. I imagine the sales of his 4 albums with the band are decent, but not in the same numbers as the original lineup. Unlike with both Van Halens, where both incarnations had big sales.

Tony Martin is on 5 post-Ozzy studio albums and he was not inducted. Ronnie is on 3. Ian Gillan and Glenn Hughes are on one each. All contributed to post Ozzy Sabbath with Ronnie's era being the second most celebrated.

I think the RARHOF makes a distinction with each band as to which members are included and which are not. Sabbath has had many drummers and bassists in addition to singers with Iommi sometimes being the only original member remaining.

Now I think an argument could be made for Ronnie's inclusion but I would agree that he wasn't involved with Sabbath at the time and there definitely was the OsBourne's desire to not share the limelight with him.

I am a big Sabbath Dio fan but I think the RARHOF made the right call.

Ronnie may yet get in as a solo artist or possibly if Rainbow ever gets inducted.

If Iron Maiden are ever inducted, it will be very interesting to see who makes the cut. Will Paul Di'Anno be included? Blaze? Jannick?

Regardless of who was the most popular or who sold the most albums, anything but the whole story is an omition of the truth. The Rock halls half story will be the history generations learn in the next century. A museum is supposed to be about history and the truth. This is why I have not gone to the hall of fame. I think that they are painting history to suit themselves. I also ask this question, why is Louie Armstrong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Its all a big joke.

going back to the Maiden question, my guess is Di'ano would be inducted as well, Blaze most likely not.

It would be interesting to know the criteria for this type of question. Does anyone have any ideas on how to find out?

The hall is a sham anyways. They never allow in who really deserves to be there. Im surprized they let Ozzy in since hes badmouthed them for years. The artists need to pay to be " let in " thats why Neil Young told them to get lost when they were going to induct him. REM is hardly what id call rock fame matraral , same with Grandmaster Flash. Van halen deserved it years ago.
The criteria is that it must be 20 years since the bands first album came out. So I think the Dio era Sabbath qualifies. Theres a panel who decides who gets in, so its not up to the fans letters or anything. While bands like REM and the pretenders are welcomed in, bands that actually fall into the rock catagory ( Kiss, Alice Cooper, Dio w/ Sabbath, Heart ) get passed over every year.

More like the hall of shame. Nobody that cares about music pays any attention to what that crappy institution does. I can't wait for somebody to get inducted but thumb their noses at the hall of fame instead of going. I thought it would be Ozzy, but he wussed out. Ronnie has too much class to do that. Oh, well. He's in my hall of fame.

Yeah, Di'Anno is an important part but he was only on two albums. What about Dennis Stratton too? I think Jannick is the X Factor.

I think bands are submitted to some governing body with specific members listed and maybe their bio or music history included. They are likely selected and then sent out to the full membership for votes to include or not for that year.

Considering that Blondie was also inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame along with Black Sabbath, I do not feel being inducted is important or indicative of talent.

I doubt Ronnie James Dio cried himself to sleep over this.

Although I am not a big Sex Pistols fan, I rather appreciate their approach to dealing with induction process. Choosing to stay at home and decline the “honor” was a good call.

What's wrong with Blondie?! I think they deserve a place. I also think Dio does and the same for Alice Cooper. But my opinion is not the same as they guys who decise who enters. It's as simple as that. I wonder who'd be in there is entried were made by public votes?
