| The newer release "Live In Germany" sounds significantly better than the older release "Live In Europe". They are the exact same songs, but they have been remastered. I always thought the old "Live In Germany" cd sounded like a bootleg. It's worth the upgrade in sound quality, if you've got the old one. |

I flipped a coin for this vote and got Rising. RBR is just as good as Rising, practically every single song from it is amazing in it's perspective. The instrumental "Still I'm Sad" Is god damn amazing and I'm a slave to the power of the instrumental songs of bands.
(My favourite instrumental is Orion by Metallica) |

Don't you think Still I'm Sad was improved when they added vocals and did it live? I think Ronnie's vocals in the On Stage version of SIS are maybe his best ever concert vocals. |

You weren't asking me, but I do prefer the version with vocals and would like to settle some confusion which surrounds this song. That is, if you or anyone else might have the knowledge required to do so.
“Still I’m Sad” is a great song, but I always feel a bit puzzled when listening to it. It was originally a Yardbird’s song from the 1960’s, so it seems strange to me that Rainbow’s cover sounds so much like Deep Purple’s “You Fool No One” from 1974. I have not heard the Yardbird’s original version, but if it sounds anything like the Rainbow cover I would have to say that Deep Purple borrowed heavily without permission with the release of “You Fool No One.” I always hear the intro to “Still I’m Sad” and logically think Blackmore is falling back on his laurels by using his guitar to mimic the drum beat on “You Fool No One.” This amuses me because Blackmore is always saying how much he hated that Burn/Stormbringer direction.
So, it is possible that Blackmore steals while in Deep Purple and then simultaneously copies his stolen release and covers the Yardbird's while in Rainbow? Does that mean he double-dipped? Or am I to treat Rainbow's “Still I’m Sad” (with reference to "You Fool No One" AND the Yardbird's original) as I would treat the multiplication of two negative integers, meaning does the double copying cancel copying out altogether?
Does the Yardbird’s version sound like Rainbow’s cover?
Does the original have lyrics? _________________ "ZAPPA PLAYS ZAPPA" TOUR DATES: http://www.zappa.com/zpz/tourdates.html

| I don't know, VOR, and I haven't heard the Yardbirds original. I know Ritchie became unhappy with the sound of the band on Stormbringer, but I didn't know he was unhappy with the Burn album at all. Seems like he would have gotten exactly what he wanted on that album, as i doubt Coverdale or Hughes were exerting much influence at the time, both being brand new. |

The "original" of the Yardbirds based on a gregorian chant and it sounds this way-strange!
But I like it.
Sounds complete different to the Rainbow versions(and the Boney M-version ). _________________ No more night-I´ve seen the light

The mp3 fairy visited me.
The Yardbird's original does, indeed, have that Gregorian chant aspect. Oddly, it also sounds like the soundtrack for a cheesy-ass spaghetti western circa 1961. I don't care for it.
I did learn one important thing; the original does have the same lyrics as the Rainbow version with lyrics. It is amazing how they can sound so lame when Ronnie James Dio is not singing them. _________________ "ZAPPA PLAYS ZAPPA" TOUR DATES: http://www.zappa.com/zpz/tourdates.html

LLRNR.
As much as I love Stargazer (their masterpiece and one of the top 10 songs ever!) and ALITB and Tarot Woman, I think that, as an album, LLRNR is the best. It's the one I love listening from end to beginning over and over... Just blows my mind every time! \m/ |

"Rising" CD, b/c Ronnie said himself on the "We Rock" DVD interview that "Rising", "Heaven and Hell", and "Holy Diver" were the best CDs he had ever made.
Also, "Rising" is just so absolutely awesome even though it is just a handful of songs on there. _________________ "We'll know for the first time, if we are evil or divine; we're the last in line. See how we shine!!" |
