Ritchie is my all time fav Guitarest Deep Purple/Rainbow not really a fan of Blackmore's Knight.

there is just something magic about the way he plays.
Also my fav time in Ronnie's carear was when writing with Ritchie.

I read in a Fender magazine that Ritchie always played a Fender strat with the pickup always set only on the lead pickup. That's a hard way to get a good sound but it is the reason why his tone is so cutting and clear. Of course using Marshall amps helps a lot.

My favorite Blackmore lead of all time is the lead in the old Deep Purple version of "Kentucky Woman" which is an old Neil Diamond song. That lead is one of the finest examples of rock guitar I think ever will be recorded, and highlights the ways Blackmore sounded so unique - nothing like anybody else. (Check out the song on Purple Passages which is a great early compilation.) Also on that is Mandrake Root which also appeared later on Rainbow Live. (I'm sure if I make a mistake all the Purple heads here will correct me).

Ritchie Blackmore is - together with Jimmy 'Zoso' Page - my favourite guitarist ever, I love all his work: with pre-Deep Purple bands, Deep Purple, Rainbow and - now - Blackmore's Night.
His way of playing guitar (and all kinds of music, from Classical music to Hard Rock to Reinessance music) is unique!!!

Magic!

Mario

He is also my favourite guitarist but mostly for his astounding live work and improvisation. Made In Japan is unquestionably the best live album ever.
Although I would much like him to reform Rainbow I was very impressed with The Village Lanterne (Blackmore's Night) and think it was one of last year's best.

Great guitarist, livea nd on album. Not sure about Made in Japan being the best live recording maybe for DP, but considering all bands and everything there are a few flaws Confused

granted, hearing Ian Gillian match, perfectly, guitar melody is superb!

My band used to do Never Before by Deep Purple. Check out a nice live version we did at www.soundclick.com/davidraymer - click on music then play (get a free ID if you have time).
