I've never thought RJD's career has gotten the recognition it so deserves. He has stated that the draw for heavy metal just isn't the same in the US as it is in other countries and I really felt that he was disapointed in the concert turnout in the US.
After seeing Tenacious D Pick of Destiny, and the H&H tour ticket sales doing very well, I get the feeling that people will finally recognize him for what he has accomplishedand the amazing performer that he is. That makes me really happy .

I think he will, DD. It's amazing that so many people do not realize Dio still has a career beyond the 80s.
I think you're right about the H&H tour putting RDJ back on the map. After the tour, I'm hoping people will say, "Ozzy who?" |

I think this subject was discussed several times. We all agree ( i think) that Ronnie did not get the recognition he must have.
Maybe the fact that he changed several bands, maybe the fact that is a simple man that do not ask for glory, maybe, maybe.....
But there is a fact that nobody can take it from him....
The major FACT that he has the best voice ever. The Voice of Metal...

The problem with RJD not getting the right recognition is that he's a hell of a nice guy, don't party more than average people, don't do drugs, don't do anything crazy. And that means that young and stupid "rockers" who *only* care about such things, can't relate to him. AND the press don't have anything to write about either. You always gotta remember that most people in the world are jealous beyond belief. And the last thing they want to hear is how great someone is. Not unless they've been down in the dumps and has fought their way back up again.
That's why Ozzy is so popular, because he doesn't have much of a talent. But he's a crazy drunk that always does strange unexpected things, and that gives the press something to write about all the time. When the press writes about him, people think "oh, he must be greater than RJD, 'cause nobody writes about RJD, but everybody writes about Ozzy" Ozzy has released some great stuff over the years, but that's NOT what he's known for.
So I think RJD joining Sabbath has been both a blessing and a curse. He got good publicity when he took over for Ozzy, most of it probably bad like "he's no Ozzy" and stuff like that, but still: it was BIG publicity that he never would have gotten if he had stuck with his original plan, and just formed his own band in '79. And most people with musical taste did give both the band, and RJD, all the credit they deserved for the AMAZING music they made together.
Another thing to remember is that people in general has always been extremely shallow, and RJD doesn't have the poster-boy looks that people want in a front figure. So everything conciered, the fact that RJD is *only* known for his AMAZING talent, music and voice, and nothing else, and that we live in a very, very unfair world, I would say that he's done extremely well!
If he becomes a cult figure, gets even more recognition, bigger audiences, and people finally realize what Sabbath line-up was the best; GREAT! But I still feel those who like him for his music are the only ones we should trust, and they're most likely the only ones that will stick with him through thick and thin. |

Of course we all agree that he hasn't gotten the recognition he deserves...I don't want to beat that topic to death...
But with the Tenacious D movie and the new H&H thing doing so well, it seems to me that he will enjoy an increase in record sales, concert turnout, etc.
And I think you put it very well TJ Cobra...hit the nail on the head, IMO. _________________ "...you were a fool but that's cool, it's alright!"

Ronnie's Holy Diver is #8 on the Metal-Rules.com - the top 100 Metal Albums list. How's that for respect!!!
http://metal-rules.com/polls/index.php?id=6
Of course, this is the same list that includes 2 Metallica, 2 Slayer and 3 Iron Maiden albums in it's top 10.
Its' first mention of Black Sabbath is at #17. Behind Operation Mindcrime, Appetite For Destruction and Shout at the Devil.
W.A.S.P.'s "W.A.S.P." is deemed more important than Paranoid.
Mob Rules comes in at #81 - one behind Exodus: Bonded by Blood.

Yes i saw that poll my friend but i want to inform you that it is too old, i think from 2002 something and it is a website that talks about heavy metal albums, not about the singers.
Our subject here is that Ronnie did not get his recognition as a singer.... _________________ Video games are bad for you? That what they said about Rock 'n' Roll... |

Maybe he should just tour the 10 biggest US cities and a few festivals now and then? |

Man, Dio Rules. I'm still suprised that no one recognizes him.
I think Cobra hit it on the head.

I'm not speaking for ZeusJupiter, but I assume he means that poor management is why RJD hasn't received proper recognition...I may be wrong...
The question here is do you thing that it will change with the Tenacious D movie and song, plus H&H? _________________ "...you were a fool but that's cool, it's alright!" |

H&H might make a difference in his popularity. I don't think the Tenacious D movie is going to matter. |
