A few ponderings, about the Evil or divine DVD/CD

I think, that Killing the dragon is better than on the album. It has clearer guitar and better flow of the voice. Dio also adds the grand finale the draaagon is DEAD woooo!!!

Fever dreams has a much more convincing riff and songmelodie than on Magica.

Rock'nroll has mammoth riffs and Dio's voice is given a big space and has a good sound. Although the intro is missing this version supersedes the original.

And of course Still I'm sad (Munich '77) is way better than on the first Rainbow album. Laughing

Agreed, the studio version is really bad but live it was brilliant and the perfect way to close the set.

Absoluteley true!

The best thing about the evil or divine album for me was the combination of Egypt/Children of the Sea - pure magic! Cool Cool Cool

Plus Doug Aldrich (Sp?) is a far better guitarist than Craig Goldie (and many other guitarists on the music scene at the moment for that matter - why whitesnake? Why? Razz )

A brilliant album/dvd which proves that live music is often better than the studio counter-part.

From the album "Inferno:The Last in Live"

I believe that "Rainbow in the Dark" and "We Rock" are way better than the studio songs

the Last In Line is also better live then on the album because of the louder guitars.

Absolutely, I guess nobody with a pair of ears would disagree with you here. Whenever I inaugurate someone to Dio (well, whenever I'm trying... Confused) the Evil Or Divine DVD is always the first thing I play to them.

I don't know whether he's actually better, he's different for sure and I've always liked his playing with Dio a lot... Why Whitesnake - shall we go and ask him...? I have no idea. I've seen Whitesnake in 2006 and I was quite disappointed - I thought Doug was really wasted on them. I liked him so much better with Dio, but I like Craig as well.

Have you seen the live videos from the Magica tour?

and all the other songs too, only Turn To Stone is missing. These versions too are so much better than on the record and Craig was having the time of his life, you can see it.

You need to listen to more bands...Doug Aldrich is good but better than other guitarists on the music scene Confused ...that is total nonsense...Doug is in Whitesnake becoz of his close friendship with DC and of course $
I can name many guitar players better than Doug...and how do you judge who's better....anyway my list is based on classic songs these Guitar players have played on or written.
Adrian Smith,Dave Murray,Janick Gers, Zakk Wylde,Youngblood,Johan Ericson,Hamish Glencross,Andrew Craighan....Doug's sound is great for Whitesnake it nice and light.
But Craig's interpretations of the Rainbow/Black Sabbath/early Dio songs is 10 times much better than Doug's.
I don't know how many times you have seen Craig play live...but the guy is amazing...he is not flash or a poser on stage..he just gets his head down and plays...you will not hear many missed notes from Craig on stage...great musican!
I have seen Doug murder some Dio's songs and Whitesnake songs on stage...but he has also played some great gigs as well...and from what I have seen on stage...Craig is true to the sound of Dio's music.Hard,Loud and Heavy!

Yeah most of the songs are better live than on the record. I've seen most of them.

Beyond all those musical issues it's always that particular spirit that comes with Dio live. Even when I don't have a video to go along with the sound, I can still feel it. I don't know how to describe this. It's like those studio records, technically perfect as they are, seem to always just serve as a template for the things Ronnie does where he's truly at home - on stage.
