OK guys i agree with you that DIO's version (Dream On) might be better than the original, but we cannot say that the original sucks.
I also like Tyler singing that song and i believe that the 2 songs have lots of differences. It is like hearing a different song.
DIO's dream on is more Rock , i guess, but Aerosmith is more like a soft Ballad... _________________ Video games are bad for you? That what they said about Rock 'n' Roll... |

The original is better, I think. I really like both, but Aerosmith's version gets my vote. I really like thge end of the original, the way Steven biulds throughout the song before breaking out the screams and such at the end. Ronnie and Malsteen's version doesn't have that slow-build effect to such an extent. _________________ Along Came A Spider..... |

This topic has been discussed many times over the last 9 years or so that I have been active in DIO messageboards online. I am a big Yngwie fan, also, as I have been playing guitar since the early 80's. I believe he is the greatest rock guitarist ever in terms of technical ability, but I also recognize that he is only mediocre as far as songwriting is concerned. In addition, his ego has never let him work consistently with any one vocalist for more than an album or two.
This ultimately is why I don't think it could ever work for Ronnie and Yngwie--both guys just would want too much control, especially YJM, as they both have been IN control as solo artists for close to 25 years each. Ronnie has worked in Sabbath now twice and has more band experience with Rainbow and Elf. Yngwie has only minimal band experience in Steeler and Alcatrazz--with both projects lasting a total of only about 2 years.
Style-wise, I think the combination could definitely work and I think we could hear some brilliant compositions. But as a couple of guys pointed out, even on the "Dream On" tribute version, they were NOT in the studio together as it was all done individually and then put together that way.
Ronnie HAS been in the studio one time with Yngwie and played one time LIVE with him, as far as I know. The studio experience was with the Hear n'Aid project back in 1986 when about 75 musicians gathered in LA to go that charity deal. Ronnie led the whole deal and Yngwie cut a fairly significant part of the guitar solo that eventually made it to the album version of the song "Stars". So, in a sense, they "worked" in the studio together, albeit briefly.
Speaking of "Stars", my only recollection of the two playing live together was in Atlanta back around '86 or '87 when Malmsteen came on stage during a DIO encore and played "Stars" live with Ronnie and the DIO band. I think maybe Yngwie was opening up for a few dates on that tour(was it the SACRED HEART tour, part 2 in '86--can't remember for sure?), so they did do this one song this one time. I don't think they have ever been on stage together again.
So, I would like to see a collaboration between the two and especially a handful of live dates. It would really be cool if they could do some Rainbow songs live since Blackmore was Yngwie's first major influence and he is a HUGE Rainbow fan. But I just don't see this happening time-wise as Ronnie has several things on the "front burner" over this next 2-3 years.
That pretty much is the summation of my thoughts on Yngwie and Ronnie working together. I guess we'll just have to be content with what we have and in all honesty, what singer/guitarist duo has a better writing chemistry than Ronnie and Tony Iommi? If you want to hear an album with SONGS and great technical performance, put on HEAVEN AND HELL or MOB RULES!

yep, i remember that Yngwie opened for Dio, did not they played together! that would be something to have on a bootleg, or recorded! But, I can understand your views of them not being able to work together for long, and it makes sense.
As for "Dream On", the original sounds better, don't know why, and the remake isn't bad, just have to go with Aerosmith's version. _________________

well, Ingwie is fast, FAST, but there is nothing new lately, just a copy of those original fast sounds, and I believe that RJD needs a more "open mind" guitarrist, i don´t think RJD want to hear 10 times the same "solos" in 10 songs.
Dio´s "dream on" version is good, but the original is better, please, is the "ORIGINAL", however, if you listened the Dio´s version first, you will think the opposite, well, I think so, the first view is the best.
no matter what, RJD is my favorite all time singer, with Yngwie and without. _________________ antes era gris... |

I have that version with Malmsteen of "Mr Crowley" by Ozzy but it's sang by Rob Halford, not Ronnie James Dio...
Magic!

I'm almost 100% certain thats "Ripper" Owens, not Halford, thats always what I've seen it credited as, and it certainly sounds more like Owens than Halford... |
