Ronnie James Dio has been with Rainbow, Black Sabbath and DIO. He's been around for a very long time and still makes great music.
Slash has been with Guns n Roses, and what else? |
Ronnie also put together a band called Elf-a few other bands earlier as well, Ronnie and the Redcaps and more, but Elf really should be recognized. It fit the times so well, and there is some GREAT stuff. Listen to Never More and you will be shocked that you haven't grown up hearing it on every rock station .
As far as Slash goes, he had a band he put together called Slash's Snakepit or just Snakepit, I'm not sure. And he was with Velvet Revolver, which I think had a lot of potential and sounded great, but I don't know what happened to them. I may be missing more, I don't know.
I did see the tribute to guitarists on VH1 last night, and they chose to include Slash. The didn't show Blackmore, but they showed Slash . I don't care at all about the opinions of who puts these shows together, because it is what they concider great.
But what did impress me about Slash was that he was on stage with the likes of Eric Clapton, BB King and a bunch of others for a tribute to Les Paul. For them to pick him speaks highly of his guitar playing capabilities.
He may be a great guitar player, but IMO, shouldn't have had honor-and I hope he felt honored-to stand up there next to Ronnie James Dio.
The interesting thing is that it probably didn't bother Ronnie at all. He was probably happy and grateful and thinks both those guys are great. That's the kind of man he is .
Now if Ozzy-no offence to the Prince of Darkness, he rocked-were to have to share his induction with anyone other than his band or something, he and Sharron would be having a freaking fit.
I have a lot to learn, correct me if I am wrong on any of this stuff. |

Thanks for the info...but still I wonder...do you think that he was an appropriate person to stand up there and share the night with RJD when you compare careers?
Isn't 37 years and 19 albums-not including any live albums or collections-worth a night dedicated only to him? (that is what I got from the discography section of this site, there is more)
Why should he have had to share it with 2 other people?
That's my opinion, that's all. _________________ "...you were a fool but that's cool, it's alright!" |

He should have to share it because Heavy Metal is a family of headbangers, and I'm sure that Dio, Slash, and Bozzio all know that. It's not just for the vain and the proud, otherwise we'd have athousand Poisons running around. _________________ Chase the horizons, catch the illusion

That is a good point...however, then why do some get recognized for their work alone and others grouped?
If some are good enough or whatever the criteria is, to be honored for their work alone, why not Ronnie James Dio?
I guess the bigger picture for me is his lack of recognition in the US. He is so unbelievably talented and such a legend, but seems to be ignored when others are honored....the result is no concert since 2004.
But that's off topic I think .
I appreciate your ability to have a civil debate about this by the way . _________________ "...you were a fool but that's cool, it's alright!"

Thanks, whatever that means, not really quite sure....
But anyway, as for your line "If some are good enough or whatever the criteria is, to be honored for their work alone, why not Ronnie James Dio", I think the answer is, in essence, that some people who are outside of the "Metal Family" (if that is an acceptable phrasing) will sometimes want to honor people alone.
For example: Ozzy Osbourne is often viewed as the personification of Metal, but to you and I, he is nothing compared to Ronnie or Alice or Axl....but people in Pop culture like him.

Hope this helps...Dio explains the whole thing better than I could. _________________ Chase the horizons, catch the illusion

Ok regardless if there were two other people getting awards or not lets add something that I see some of you may not know.
A) the background music played for this event was nothing but Ronnie's career.
B) Ronnie may had gone second with Slash going last but both of the other two came on relatively quicker. Besides the host giving an introduction Ronnie had THREE people give speeches.
C) People who were out in the audience were getting impatient in what seemed like they were stretching the time before Ronnie came on. The other two they did not.
Not to mention it was said the entire Dio band was there BUT I swore they said a different name for Dio's guitarist. Unless the guy got it wrong he did not say Craig. Unless he was refering to Pilson by mistake but again he did not say Jeff Pilson until he said Jeff Pilson former bass player for Dio etc as he introduced him to make a speech.
Jeff and Rudy obviously like Ronnie very much. |
I didn't know any of that...thanks. But I'm still not quite sure of your opinion...I'm a little confused . |
Confused on what? You are implying that because he was not given a solo award then somehow he was not honored enough etc. I was pointing out that he got a lot of honor that night despite sharing any spotlight. I do not see him being slighted one bit by this. Besides he did not have this career alone. He did not go onstage alone so why are not those that helped his career along the way honored as well. We could have had a parade down sunset that ended at the Rockwalk.
You just sound like a nitpicking groupie. Hey how come he got more food on his plate than we did? Would you feel the same way at any say metal awards show? Would we have to have one for Ronnie alone and then one for the rest of the genre? Did they have a drummer (or whatever he was), a singer, and a guitar player? So technically they had different elements of any one band. He did not share the spotlight with two other singers?
This would be different if this were Halford, Dio, and Dickinson all getting handprints on the same night.
But in the end I am glad he is getting something as well as the others. _________________ Smacks & Manly Thumps,

OK, Dickinson and Halford and Dio....
I don't have much against Rob Halford but Bruce Dickinson is part of Iron Maiden and they really annoy me..
SO if Dio had to share the spotlight with two other singers....It should be Alice and Dee Snider _________________ Chase the horizons, catch the illusion

I guess I should have been more clear with you about what I didn't understand Devin...B) was a little confusing.
How would it be different if it were Halford, Dio and Dickenson? Would that be a more equal group? Again I missed your point...but if you can't explain your point without being nice, then skip it please .
I absolutely think that other members of Dio should have been awarded or someone from his other bands, and the trio you mentioned would have been bitchen.
My point, which you seem to have obviously missed by your insulting me ...thanks Devin ...is that if some deserve to be honored for only their career, and IMO, people who haven't had the career that RJD has, so why did they decide to group him with others, especially not others like you mentioned?
I have never been rude in my discussions and debate with obcene, and there has been no name calling. I'm sensitive and have not been insulted until now....except for some Ozzy terrorists one night....
I simply feel that RJD's career warrented a solo honor.
If that equals a nitpicking groupie, than so be it. As far as the poll goes, others feel the same way, but aren't voicing their opinion.
Have a great day Devin...I'm going ice fishing. _________________ "...you were a fool but that's cool, it's alright!" |

I don't know what went wrong with the words of that sentence of mine, so I fixed it...sorry..
I've seen that video before and it is kind of where I am coming from. Not so much about him sharing the honor, but the lack of recongition...but that is a different topic.
I was just going to write (when I noticed the link you put up, I missed it before) that I bet Kelly Clarkson gets inducted alone...
Ronnie deserves more validation and recognition. That's MO and that's it for now...See ya

Ice fishing, sounds like fun
As for Dio's lack of recognition,
at least he is recognized by his loyal fans.

Surely the most important thing is that he got inducted. I doubt it will go down in history that he shared the honour.
Besides, I bet there are some people who don't like Ronnie saying Slash should have had the the night to himself. |
