MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has posted the following message in the "Forums" section of the band's official web site:
"You [the MEGADETH fans] keep getting clever and I have to keep coming up with ways to keep you guessing. Like with the HEAVEN AND HELL tour. I said before we could officially confirm the tour, 'Any tour dates are either inaccurate or premature.' I wonder how many of you got the 'premature' part and knew we were going to do this?
"Anyway, here we go again! New record, new tour, new bruises to give and get! Ah, love is in the air!!!
"So, there are going to be some kewl surprises on this new leg, but we are only going to be playing 45 minutes. Hopefully that can be massaged into 60, but this is just our first time for this record through a beautiful country that half of MEGADETH hail from now, so once we are done demolishing our way through the HEAVEN AND HELL tour, we will be back to Canada for our own dates; if not this year, for sure by Gigantour 2008.
"I look forward to seeing Ronnie and Tony, and meeting Geezer and Vinny.
"Now the problem is, do we open with 'Blackmail The Universe' or 'Sleepwalker'? It sucks to have so many fun choices to bring to you, but you know I love it.
"Time to start the old routine again to get rid of the 'pecans and pralines' ice cream and work on the old airbags. And as you saw with the new VMNTs, this tour is going to be beyond sick with solos and guitar shredding.
"I know we are going to be playing at around 180 mph to cram as many songs in the 45 minutes, much like the now famous (or infamous, if you will) Download Festival.
"I look forward to being reunited with my bandmates and crew, as well as getting back on the road. This is going to be a very interesting tour. I can't wait!

This is from www.dreamtheater.net
if you live near New York, you can go:
Live near NYC? Want to be on the new DT?
Added on 01-24-2007
"Hi gang,
Do you live near New York City?
Do you want to have your voice on the new Dream Theater CD?
If so, I'm looking for a group of about 30 or 40 people to do some "chants" for a section of one of the new songs...and I figured it be fun to offer the job to a few lucky fans!
Here's the deal:
At 2pm this Friday January 26th, we will let a group of you into the studio to do some yelling for us...
The place:
Avatar Studios - 441 W. 53rd St (between 9th & 10th Ave)
The time:
We will open the doors around 2pm.
**DO NOT** arrive any earlier than 1pm which is when the line will form....
(fans arriving earlier than 1pm will not be permitted to line up outside)
Depending on the turnout, we cannot guarantee entry to everybody.
It will be based on first come, first serve.
You will be needed for no more than an hour, so you will be able to leave by 3pm. _________________ You're Breathless, ready to burn

Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford recently spoke to Launch Radio Network about the forthcoming Judas Priest album; Nostradamus, the bands' first ever concept album.
"The writing sessions were fantastic - some of the best writing that (guitarists) Glenn (Tipton) and K.K. (Downing) and myself have ever created, and we're in good shape, we're recording. And finger's crossed, and with the belief that it's ready when it's ready, we should be out by the middle of 2007 with Nostradamus." |

Roadrunner Records has set a March 13 release date for the "special edition" version of DRAGONFORCE's "Inhuman Rampage" album. The two-disc CD/DVD set will feature a bonus audio track, "Lost Souls in Endless Time", a "hysterial" behind-the-scenes look into DRAGONFORCE, and a live performance from the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards in 2006. The complete track listing is as follows:
CD:
01. Through the Fire and Flames
02. Revolution Deathsquad
03. Storming the Burning Fields
04. Operation Ground and Pound
05. Body Breakdown
06. Cry for Eternity
07. The Flame of Youth
08. Trail of Broken Hearts
09. Lost Souls in Endless Time (Bonus Track)
DVD:
01. Through the Fire and Flames (Music Video)
02. Operation Ground and Pound (Music Video)
03. Behind-The-Scenes Rockumentary
04. Bonus Live Performance of "My Spirit Will Go On" from Metal Hammer Awards
DRAGONFORCE will team up with KILLSWITCH ENGAGE (headliners), CHIMAIRA and HE IS LEGEND for the first annual No Fear Music Tour, set to kick off late February. For a list of dates, click here.
DRAGONFORCE's "Inhuman Rampage" CD has sold 114,000 copies in the United States since its June release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The follow-up to 2004's "Sonic Firestorm" was recorded at Thin Ice Studios in Virginia Water (Surrey) and guitarist Herman Li's own studio in West London between April and September 2005, while production duties were shared between Li, fellow axeman Sam Totman and keyboard player Vadim Pruzhanov.

Chris Riemenschneider of StarTribune.com recently conducted an interview with MASTODON guitarist Bill Kelliher. A few excerpts from the chat follow:
On the fact that there isn't anything remotely hip about the fearsome-sounding foursome:
"We'd like to think we're cool, hip guys, but probably not. I think whatever respect we're getting now, it comes from our hard work on the road and, of course, the music."
On the band's influences:
"We all grew up on early METALLICA, [IRON] MAIDEN, SLAYER, [JUDAS] PRIEST, and I think AC/DC and [LED] ZEPPELIN come through pretty strong in our music, too. It's a good time to bring some of that back — hopefully in a new way, though. We don't mind being called a 'prog-rock' band, because that means 'progressive,' you know, taking the music forward. I think you see that with bands like TOOL, THE MARS VOLTA, the DEFTONES and hopefully us."
On whether the band sits around getting stoned to write its songs:
"No, they're all true stories. [Laugh] We write the music first and the lyrics come second, but we're pretty serious about them. We want the songs to be metaphors and capture some kind of deep and heavy struggle, to reflect the music. In this case, they're are all about this journey up a mountain, and all the things that happen along the way."
On fans' concerns that the band sold out by signing with Warner Bros./ Reprise:
"'Blood Mountain' would be the exact same record it was, no matter what label put it out, except it probably wouldn't sound as good as it does because we'd have had less time in the studio. We made it clear to Warner Bros. that we're not a pop-rock band or a group of 19-year-olds who got together to be a supergroup and write hits for the radio. Their response was always that they want MASTODON, nothing else."

THE CULT will make its first live appearance of 2007 on February 24 at California Speedway in Fontana, California. The concert, which begins at 8:00 p.m., is a part of NASCAR's highly successful Rock 'n Racing series. Tickets include admission to the racetrack to view the race and THE CULT's post-race performance.
THE CULT is scheduled to enter the studio this month to begin pre-production on the group's first album since 2001's "Beyond Good and Evil". A fall release is expected. Also planned for release is a DVD of the band's November 13, 2006 concert at Irving Plaza in New York City, tentatively due in April.
THE CULT's current touring lineup includes principals Ian Astbury (vocals) and Billy Duffy (guitar) alongside bassist Chris Wyse, drummer John Tempesta (ex-WHITE ZOMBIE, TESTAMENT, EXODUS, HELMET) and rhythm guitarist Mike Dimkich. New THE CULT European tour dates are being booked for June, with many more shows to follow in the fall and winter.
Despite the renewed THE CULT activity, Astbury retains his membership in the current version of THE DOORS, known as RIDERS ON THE STORM, while Duffy's other band, CIRCUS DIABLO, plans to release an album later this year.
According to the AC/DC fan site Crabsody In Blue, U.K.'s BBC 4 will screen the "AC/DC - Rock goes to College" live footage on Friday, February 16. The 30-minute program features footage of AC/DC performing in concert at Essex University in 1977. Songs include "Live Wire", "Bad Boy Boogie", "Whole Lotta Rosie", "The Rocker" and "Let there be Rock".
Despite what you might have heard elsewhere, AC/DC won't be releasing a new album any time soon. There have been reports online recently that a new record titled "Strap It On" was due in 2007, but the band's Australian record company said in December it's not true. Albert Music head Fifa Riccobono told the Australian news service Undercover News, "I ran that past (AC/DC guitarist Malcolm Young) some time ago, and he said it was the first he'd heard of it, so I guess the answer (is) no. Also, there definitely is no release date scheduled, as the album hasn't been recorded yet."
AC/DC leaders Malcolm and Angus Young have been writing material for a few years. In early 2005, singer Brian Johnson told Launch there was a lot of stuff to work with. "I think, and I might be speaking out of turn, but I think they're doing a double, with the amount of songs — I've been over a couple of times with the boys and added ideas on 46 tunes we had, and they've been working since then!" he said.

WHEN DREAM THEATER AND ROADRUNNER RECORDS UNITE!
BAND AND LABEL JOIN FORCES WITH NEW STUDIO ALBUM PLUS WORLD TOUR TO FOLLOW
ROADRUNNER RECORDS is proud to announce the signing of progressive metal pioneers Dream Theater. A new studio album, Systematic Chaos is due in June. Dream Theater will hit the road in support of the album for a world tour, including major festival appearances in Europe.
Since their first studio release in 1989, this US based five-piece has notched up record and DVD sales in excess of six million and headlined to audiences of 20,000. Having undertaken seven world tours across 42 different countries, Dream Theater has established a live reputation that has swept them to arena-status around the globe. They have appeared alongside acts such as Deep Purple, Iron Maiden and Yes.
Recognized by peers and public alike for their advanced musical expertise, the band (Mike Portnoy, drums; John Petrucci, guitar; John Myung, bass; James LaBrie, vocals; Jordan Rudess, keyboards) has long held the ability to combine complex arrangements with unadulterated songwriting skills, the material often underpinned by riffs as heavy as anything in the Metallica repertoire.
"This album's got all of the elements we've become known for," reveals Portnoy. "The focus on musicianship, the skull-crushing riffs, the big progressive epics and the heart-wrenching melodies. We've got one of the strongest and most devoted fan bases in the world, and they should certainly be happy with the new material. By working closely with the label we hope to turn a great many new heads too."
"Dream Theater and Roadrunner Records have led parallel careers on the cutting edge of metal for many years," say A&R men, Derek Oliver & Dante Bonutto, "We're thrilled to be working with a genuine market-leader, and when you add everything the guys bring to the table to the independent spirit and work ethic of the label, the results can only be exciting in the extreme!"
Prior to teaming up with Roadrunner, Dream Theater was signed to a seven-album deal with Warner Music Group worldwide. The deal commenced with the critically acclaimed and commercially successful Images And Words (1992), a Gold-certified US release, and concluded, in equal style, with Octavarium (2005), a Top 40 Billboard outing. In August of last year the band issued Score, a live album/DVD (recorded at Radio City Music Hall in New York), which went straight to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard DVD charts, knocking Pink Floyd from the top!
By the following month, the five were holed up at Avatar Studios in New York, working on the new album with veteran engineer/ mixer Paul Northfield (Rush, Queensryche, Porcupine Tree). As usual, Portnoy and Petrucci chose to co-produce the project, which features seven compositions (one a 25-minute epic), and word on the grapevine is that the Dream Theater/Roadrunner alliance looks all set to kick off with a classic.
Systematic Chaos, Dream Theater's ninth studio release, arrives at a time when the band is casting a longer-than-ever shadow across the rock and metal landscape. Their influence is being acknowledged by an increasing number of contemporary, cutting-edge acts such as Stone Sour, Trivium, Shadows Fall, Opeth as their fan base continues to grow.
Touring plans will be announced shortly. Please visit www.roadrunnerrecords.com or www.dreamtheater.net for up to the minute information. _________________ You're Breathless, ready to burn

The new Rush album, Snakes And Arrows, is released by Atlantic Records on May 1, preceded by a single called Far Cry on March 13.
Guns N’ Roses have confirmed plans to make their live debut in South Africa in April, as well as playing dates in Japan, Thailand, South America, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand. The much-heralded arrival of the band’s Chinese Democracy album is still said to be “imminent”.
Metallica have hinted at interrupting the recording of a new album with producer Rick Rubin to play some surprise European shows in June.
UFO drummer Andy Parker has pulled out of next month’s tour dates after breaking his ankle. Ex-member Simon Wright, currently of Dio, will be filling in.
The Scorpions seem set to call their new Desmond Child-produced album Humanity - Hour 1. It’s due on May 14 through BMG Records. |
