Jon Wiederhorn of Revolver magazine (web site) recently conducted an interview with Ronnie James Dio (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW) and Tony Iommi (BLACK SABBATH) of HEAVEN AND HELL — the new band also featuring SABBATH bassist Geezer Butler and ex-DIO/SABBATH drummer Vinny Appice. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:
Revolver: Why didn't BLACK SABBATH drummer Bill Ward play on [the new songs that will be included on the upcoming Dio-era BLACK SABBATH anthology, "Black Sabbath: The Dio Years"]?
Dio: Bill was going to do it, but he had commitments that wouldn't allow him, in his mind, to tour. The next logical choice was Vinny, because Vinny popuated more of those albums than Bill did. Bill did the first album, and Vinny did three after that.
Revolver: The Osbourne camp issued a press release that pointed out HEAVEN AND HELL "has nothing to do with BLACK SABBATH" and that "there is only one BLACK SABBATH." Would they rather you didn't tour?
Dio: I don't know. I don't go out and petition for these things, they just sort of happen. And when they do, it doesn't mean there's been a big witches convention someplace in the dark going, "Alright, now we can put pins into Ozzy and Sharon." Because that's not the way it is at all.
Revolver: What brought you back for 1992's "Dehumanizer"?
Dio: I thought we quit way too early. Even after "Live Evil", I thought we'd do another blockbuster album and carry on for the rest of our lives. So Geezer came to me at a show in Minneapolis [in 1990, and came onstage to play "Neon Knights"]. He told me that Tony wanted to do something again, and one thing led to another.
Revolver: Was that album enjoyable to make?
Dio: Not really. It was something we had to really wring out of ourselves, but I think that's why it works. Sometimes you need that kind of tension, or else you end up making the Christmas album.
Revolver: Why did you leave again after "Dehumanizer"?
Dio: I was told in the middle of the tour that we would be opening for Ozzy in Los Angeles. And I said, "No. Sorry, I have more pride than that." A lot of bad things were being said from camp to camp, and it created this horrible schism. So by them agreeing to play the shows in L.A. with Ozzy, that, to me, spelled out reunion. And that obviously meant the doom of that particular project.
Revolver: Can we expect a HEAVEN AND HELL album in the future?
Dio: Well, I'm not going to give up the DIO band. And I think touring for a year with this band will be long enough. But I would hope that we'll still be speaking to each other after that and that some other plans might be able to be made.
Iommi: At this point, nothing is written in stone. Anything could happen.
Revolver's entire interview with HEAVEN AND HELL can be found in the magazine's March 2007 issue, which is set to hit newsstands this coming Monday, January 15. More information is available at www.revolvermag.com.
Folks the topic was deleted by me...by mistake.
So I have started another one. |

According to its official MySpace page, DOWN the
acclaimed New Orleans band featuring CORROSION OF
CONFORMITY guitarist/vocalist Pepper Keenan, drummer
Jimmy Bower (EYEHATEGOD, SUPERJOINT RITUAL guitarist),
bassist Rex Brown (ex-PANTERA), guitarist Kirk
Windstein (CROWBAR), and vocalist Philip Anselmo
(SUPERJOINT RITUAL, ex-PANTERA) will support HEAVEN
AND HELL on the following dates:
Mar. 11 - Vancouver, BC - Pacific Coliseum
Mar. 13 - Edmonton, AB - Rexall Place
Mar. 14 - Calgary, AB - Saddledome
Mar. 16 - Regina, SK - Brandt Centre
Mar. 18 - Winnipeg, MB - MTS Centre
Mar. 20 - Sault St. Marie, ON - Steelback Centre
Mar. 22 - Toronto, ON - Air Canada Centre
Mar. 24 - London, ON - John Labatt Centre
Mar. 26 - Montreal, PQ - Bell Centre
Mar. 27 - Quebec City, PQ - Colisee Pepsi Arena
Mar. 28 - Ottawa, ON - Civic Centre
DOWN is also expected to play four headlining gigs on
the East Coast.
DOWN is currently working on the material for its
third album, tentatively due later in the year. "We're
doing this one the way we did our first album, when we
were 19 or 20 years old," Keenan explained to Revolver
magazine. "So we're jamming in a room, recording on a
jam box, and then throwing them on the ProTools rig
and building things from there."
According to Pepper, fans should not expect to hear
nu-metal or anything trendy from the forthcoming CD.
"You will never hear that type of shit from us," he
explained. "We're real focused on being timeless."
DOWN's new album will be the first since Anselmo
underwent back surgery in November 2005. "Me and Kirk
drink a little bit here and there, but Phil, Rex Brown
and Jimmy are completely sober," said Keenan. "I'm
running every day. Everyone's exercising. Phil had
that back surgery, so he's doing a lot of core
strengthening in and around his spine, and he's doing
great."
DOWN's sophomore album, "Down II", was released in
March 2002 on Elektra Records. The band headlined the
second stage at the 2002 Ozzfest. _________________ Calcitra Clunis |

I am so pumped for this tour!!!!!!!!
I can't hardly believe it's happening.
I thought I'd never get to see Dio again let alone with the best lineup that Sabbath ever had.
The last time I got to see Dio was with Sabbath on the Mob Rules tour. |

I seem silly posting this becoz...I never thought for one moment they would be doing Ozzy Songs....
HEAVEN AND HELL — the new band featuring legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW) alongside original BLACK SABBATH members Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler, plus drummer Vinny Appice (DIO, BLACK SABBATH) — has confirmed to TotalRock that it will only be playing songs from the Dio era of BLACK SABBATH on its upcoming world tour. The group will put together its live show from the "Heaven And Hell", "Mob Rules" and "Dehumanizer" albums, plus three new songs written and recorded for the upcoming compilation album "Black Sabbath: The Dio Years".

Heaven And Hell will play at the Gods Of Metal here in Italy, I come belive it!
Obviously, I'll be there!!!
Heaven And Hell will play the same day of Blind Guardian and Dream Theater, in the next 3rd of June. Unfortunately, that day will play Dimmu Borgir too (and I hate them) but I'll be there for Heaven And Hell!
Magic!

Loads of Heaven & Hell news announced today at http://www.black-sabbath.com/news
It seems Scott Warren will be keyboardist for the tour which will include more US dates in August and will likely be followed by a tour of the UK, Japan and Australia. Tour rehearsels start in about two weeks and the shows probably won't include any Ozzy material. On a down side it isn't known if The Dio Years will get a North American or worldwide release.
Slightly off topic but the update also mentions that after H&H Dio will return to the studio to record Magica II & III! |

-------- Original Message --------
Subject: [RonnieJamesDio.org - We Rock!] Details of Ronnie's Interview with Eddie Trunk on January 20th!!
Date: Sat, 20 Jan 2007 09:11:12 EST
From: jclrascal@aol.com
Yep, I listened to Eddie Trunk's live phone interviews last night with both Geezer and Ronnie himself. They both sounded great and the enthusiasm is definitely there. Highlights of the interview(s):
1. Worldwide Tour to take up most of 2007
2. No studio album plans with HAH after that, but Ronnie's "open" to what may happen
3. Definitely still committed to DIO the band and especially to completing the MAGICA II/III project so that the trilogy will be documented. Ronnie seemed very ADAMANT about this. Will work on this new DIO album after the HAH tour.
4. Rudy Sarzo and Simon Wright, in particular, are pumped about Ronnie's involvement with HAH.
5. Scott Warren will be the keyboard player on stage with HAH rather than Geoff Nicholls
6. Ronnie nor Geezer neither one gave a decent reason why Vinny ended up replacing Bill Ward--kinda confirms for me that Bill just wouldn't do it out of respect for Ozzy and/or fear of Sharon's wrath. Still, I think Vinny is physically more prepared for a year-long worldwide tour
7. Both Ronnie and Geezer confirmed that ALL three of the new studio tracks will be on the Rhino Best of DIO years release come April 3rd. Initially, they were only planning on 2 of the 3 tracks to be included, now it's all three songs! You guys know the names of those already and have heard Ronnie and Tony talk about 'em, so I won't repeat all of that.
8. No Ozzy material will be played--only HAH, MR and DE plus the 3 new songs.
9. Will definitely be doing songs that have never been done live or only minimally done(like "Falling Off the Edge of the World")
10. Ronnie said the 3 new tunes could easily be substituted into the HAH studio album and you'd think they were written at the same time and part of that album originally! He said they were THAT good.
11. Also, the songs were melodies and riffs that Ronnie had already planned on using for the next MAGICA album so we are effectively gonna hear "Iommi Magica"!
12. Just stated once again what an incredible songwriting partner Tony has always been for him, citing the "chemistry" issue being so good yet again here in 2006 and 2007.
13. Did not specifically say anything about a live album or DVD being recorded from this tour, but that had been said in previous snippets.
There probably were a few other tidbits, but I think this is the gist of what was said. I'm sure the interview will be posted on Eddie Trunk's site here soon and all of this will be on the Net somewhere, but just wanted to give you guys a summary of what all was said--all less than about 10 hours ago now!
It's gonna be a great show--I had the privilege of seeing this lineup live in February 1982, which was my first time ever seeing Ronnie and now somewhere here in North America, I'll see it again later on this summer. Make sure you get our tickets as this one will be history in the making!
Long Live Rock'n'Roll in both HEAVEN AND HELL,
JACK THE RASCAL

As previously reported, the first U.S. gig of the
HEAVEN AND HELL tour will be March 30 at Radio City
Music Hall in New York City. There will be no opening
act for this show; it's just HEAVEN AND HELL. The band
is expected to play an extra-long set at this concert.
Tickets are priced between $54.00 and $74.00 and go on
sale Friday, January 26 at 10:00 a.m. There will be
other U.S. dates, but not before August. No further
information is currently available on which cities
they might hit.
After the Canadian tour and the New York City date,
HEAVEN AND HELL will play South America before heading
over to Europe for the summer festival run. A full
U.S. tour will take place in August, to be followed by

| you know what, I can see Iommi end up doing some studio work with the band DIO, it seems as if he enjoys it that much, if that were to happen I dunno, I'd be in so much happiness I might end up turning into a hippy. This tour doesn't spell the end for Geezer-Dio-Iommi-Appice there's bound to be at least one or 2 things more. It's just a feeling, aswell as wishful thinking. |
