I don't know if there ias already a thread on this, either there isn't one or I wasn't paying attention so here goes.

So, are there any Metallica fans here, excluding myself of course, can't start a thread and keep it alive by simply discussing with yourself can you.

Excellent band, I like bits of all the albums they've done, I like all 8 songs from the album "Master of Puppets" but I got to say, Load is a close contender for no 1 on my list so :p. Load is around the time they alternative and experimental but I still love the album and nobody can change it. I might just cross the line and say St Anger was decent, just remater the damn thing, better bass guitar, heavier rifs, some witty solos and double bass drums instead of snare.

I've seen a load of their live videos, I have just as many Metallica DVDs as my dad has of DIO. Pretty weird that I like 2 bands with totally different styles of music. I like James's voice just a much as Ronnie's almost. They have had some top notch material bassists though, Cliff Burton was just awesome and although he died at such and early age he could of been like the Jimmi Hendrix of bass.

Jason Newsted is another bassist that kicks assage, it's hard to decide which one I prefer more as Newsted did more work with Metallica and his tone for his basslines was freaky. The distortion he used when playing live sounded like something from Jeff Wayne's albums. He was fricking huge though, shame about the accident he had in October, see, he tried to catch a falling bass amp head that weighed 90 lbs and screwed some ligaments in both shoulders he wont be playing bas again for Voivod or Supernova til summer.

I like Robert Trujillo too, some of his work with Ozzy was very crafty and his bass solos that open up for the song "For Whom The Bell Tolls" are amazing.

I like these guys, they maybe over rated, the drummer maybe a pure asshole but they're excellent now and then.

I'm not a 'tallica fan now but sure did wear out
MOP and AJFA and RTL back in the 80's. They
were a heavy new sound. Would prefer to
remember them than promote them now.

Trujillo should be shot for his participation in the shameful re-recordings of Diary Of A Madman and Blizzard Of Oz. Were he to have been involved in the recording of a classic album, it would serve him right if his ex-bandmates had his work redone out of spite. As it is, he's only done some shitty Suicidal Tendencies albums, so he's probably safe on that front.

METALLICA!!!! \m/ Twisted Evil \m/ I love their music. They're one of my favorite bands. I do prefer their older material, but I still think that stuff from Load and the albums after that still have their moments. I can't really say that much of what they have done cause what's there to say? Sure, there's been controversy here and there, but they make some kick-ass music. I was waiting for someone to make a topic of Metallica. I wasn't sure if I could do it. Spyke005, thanks for saving me some typing. Excellent topic. Wink

Well, I'm not much of a Thrash metal fan which excplains why I like load over all other albumss except Master of Puppets. Metallica at their best has to be the S&M concert.
Jason was a kickass backing vocalist and bassist. I have to admit I'm an inferior on their knees to instrumental songs. Or songs that have such structure they kick assage-ness. DOesn't mean I hate the other albums, I just think the singing and more melodic music on Load is kickass. They put alot into it, They did stuff that sounds like a hard rock/country hybrid like Poor Twisted Me, House That Jack Built and Mama said. Jamess Hetfield is pretty careless though, he's had his arm burned severely from pyrotechs on stage, broken his wrist and arm several times from skateboarding yet he's still going.

I can understand why some like their older stuff bet but some of it is amazing done live, as seen on a few DVDs. Whiplash, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Creeping Death, Seek and Destroy and Ride the Lightning, they're all flawless songs.

I thought this thread was going to die! Shocked

I am HUGE Metallica fan. My fav album is Ride The Lightning and my least favourite is ReLoad.

Rob Trujillo is amazing and his ex-bands, Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves are both great.

I can't wait for their new material, even though Rick Rubin as a new producer never made me that happy...

Yeah, I know, I especially like SOAD but Rick Rubin was so obvious choice if you know what I mean. ( why I can't write proper english anymore... Rolling Eyes )

I actually dig St. Anger. Not many good songs that are good all the way through, but every song has a part or two where the band really hits on something good. I could listen to St. Anger straight through easier than Load or Reload.

problems with loa dand reload is that all the songs aren't one single style, I mean, you got a country song (which is kickass), a few progressive songs and some typical hard rock, jazzy songs. if it wasn't for the crappy drums st anger would probably be a favourite of mine too. But some of the St Anger songs are uper sexy when performed live, thank youtube!
