ALITB and Stargazer were played back to back in very early shows. I have it on a bootleg from The Beacon Theater in 1975 or 1976. From what I heard, poor Cozy was exhausted by then end of those 2 songs...understandable.
Hey, any chance of that bootleg appearing somewhere where I can download it???
I wish I were able to do that. Between you and I, it is not the best sounding bootleg. I would rate it a C+ at best. Unless someone has a better version out there. Self Portrait was also performed at that show.

| Another nice complete version of ALITB also appears on the Tower of Babel Tour Rehearsals. I have three '75 shows that feature ALITB, and they're all marginal quality. I also have three '76 shows with the said song on it. |

I'm hoping one of the early Rainbow shows from 1975 might be released one day. Even though this is a Dio site, I would love to see a release from the Graham Bonnett era as well.

I saw Rainbow on the "Down To Earth" tour, unfortunately Bonnet was suffering with flu. Blackmore didn't even do the guitar annihilation routine!!
Wouldn't mind hering/seeing the whole of the '80 MoR set.

I have the Donnington show on CD and it's not bad sound quality. Like I said prior, I can't download from my computer. There are some video snippets on youtube if you want to see what Donnington looked like. |

I think that Stargazer and A Light In The Black are connected to each others.Listening to the lyrics on Stargazer then the story continiue on A Light In The black.
Its what makes the album some sort of a concept album.
So both songs are equally important and i rate them both 10/10.
Its the best Rainbow album and probably the most important album for DIO. The sound and the songs were years beyond their time. |

OK, I love both songs, and I really agree that A Light In The Black is under-rated, but still Stargazer is a cut above.
I think the Middle Eastern scales have something to do with it, as does Dio's soaring voice, but Stargazer wins my vote either way. |

+1!!!
I can't imagine one of these songs without other!
Sure, A Light In The Black is more understandable, especially these words:
...Something's calling me back
To a light in the black
Yes, I'm ready to go...
It's always actually for everyone of us, but if we speak about TWO songs - Stargazer and A Light In The Black - I think we shouldn't separate them both _________________ I'll carry on to do it right, or... get out! (c) Cozy Powell

God, I love things like this!!!
That Stargazer and A Light In The Black is one story doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out!!!
As for interpreting the lyrics!!! This will be YOUR take on the meaning. Someone else could see something else completely.
As you have so eruditely stated the two songs tell one story. A story, that is all.

Yes , sure most of the sng interpertations are based on my takes on them ! someone else could come upon with other ideas or visions and actually thats why theyre always great fun to discuss and chit chat allover ! yet ! Stargazer and Light in the Black are story telling songs (epics0 theyre based upon a CERTAIN storyline and i truly belive u cant play circles around these songs ! they re straight forward songs unlike songs such as Caught In the Middle ,Heaven and Hell & Mob rules as an example ( although Dio must had something in mind when he wrote those classics !)
Other song Interpertations such as Killing the Dragon for example have been built up upon what RJD used to comment considering what this track is all about , he simply opened the door to start fixing up the puzzle and linking the whole lyrics and songs to one another ! again , those are just some interpertations i thought they might be interesting for any Dio fan to read and discuss along with other die hard fans as well ! would love to here any lyrics analysis to any of the Dio songs if u have any !
cheers ! :) |

Ok, you've stated that S/ALITB are one story/epic and that "you can't play circles around these songs" yet you've also stated that you've "interpreted the song lyrics and story ..."
So which is it......................................???????
