Sacred heart is a good album, not Dio's best work, but not his worst either. the sounds of the album is a little lighter and less heavier then Holy Diver and Last in Line, but I do like the pop songs like Hungry for heaven or Rock n roll children.
I think all the songs are enjoyable, but songs like Another Lie, Just another day, fallen angels and shoot shoot aren't great. The rest is great...in my opinion _________________ You're Breathless, ready to burn

I think Sacred Heart has a few great songs...maybe three (R&R Children, Sacred Heart, King), but the rest is not on par with the first two albums.... it's a shame third time wasn't the charm.
Shoot shoot is so bad it's hilarious .... _________________ Sleep with the devil and then you must pay...

shoot shoot ain't that bad.
It has a very melodic couplet, but the chorus isn't good.

I guess I should have posted here....
I just got SH about a month ago, but have been listening to Elf, Mob Rules, MOTM and some other stuff. I put it in last night and was just really suprized at how "cheesy" it sounded.
I agree with Rhino, and it seems a lot of die hard Dio fans aren't fond of this one. But like I said, I will listen some more and see if it grows on me.
And RL, you seem to be one of the only fans of Shoot Shoot...I'm glad...it needs a fan .
Please don't get me wrong, you all know how much I LOVE RJD. And maybe my expectations are really high and I was just dissapointed by this...I've got to get Strange Highways and AM.

You are so funny RL..."I only have it on tape."
After listening to Dio on my ipod while driving for hours thru the desert, and analyzing the music, I realized that the effects in SH are what blow it for me. The song SH is good, but I don't like the effects. Another Lie is okay, Ronnie is great, but I'm just not blown away by it or Like the Beat of a Heart, or Fallen Angels.
There is just way too much "cheese" on this CD. But that was a sign of the times...
I also can't listen to R&R Children without picturing the video. Did we all look that lame in the 80's?
Then I put on MOTM and even though some songs are better than others, like One More for the Road-that song rocks-there are no cheesy choruses on that album. It has such a completely different sound to it.
I can't wait to get AM. I LOVE This is your life, but from what I've read, that may be the best song on it. _________________ "...you were a fool but that's cool, it's alright!" |

I know it's not "Angry Machines - Unfairly treated?" (HM please have mercy on me this one time... ), but IMO the best song on Angry Machines is God Hates Heavy Metal and this one is only on the Japan edition
Cheers! |

Hi guys. It's funny, y'know, to me Sacred Heart is one of the heavier-sounding Dio albums. Or, at least, one of the more aggressive ones. Sure, it's got one eye on radio-friendly potential most of the time, but I really like the chuggy guitar sound (especially on Hungry For Heaven and the brilliant Just Another Day).
I can't help but feel that the apparent fact that both Ronnie and Vivian Campbell were p***ed-off during the recording sessions made both of their performances slightly more intense. Perhaps they were letting off steam! There's some great stuff on this album, and song-for-song I'd probably prefer it to The Last In Line. Probably... _________________ Slasherama.com: it's all about the body count |

I love the album - but the Sacred Heart tour was the first Dio show I every saw so it has a very special place in my heart. There are some great tracks on Sacred Heart.......its the mix that spoils it. Clause Schnell playing keyboards live was an experience to behold - his solo on the tour was simply amazing!! Sacred Heart is, personally, a very special album for me. _________________ Stand up and Shout!!!!! |

"Sacred Heart" is my least favorite Dio album. This has less to do with songwriting than of the sound and style of the times. I disliked so much of what metal in general was doing in the 80s (I was a child of 70s metal), and I thought Sacred Heart reflected that softer, cheesier sound that was "in" then.
My guess is that if Ronnie recorded and released those songs as "new" right now, they'd have a heavier, harder edge, and thus my opinion would be more favorable. |
Yeah, I'm pretty much of this mind. Good songs but it does have a weak '80's vibe to it.
Some of you are comparing it to 'Strange Highways.' Wow. These two albums are so far apart on the spectrum, it's apples and oranges all over again.
Still, a weaker DIO album is better than most artists' hit albums. _________________ Sit on it, Potsie. |

This is the quote of the year... or perhaps the decade. |
