All eras here...

I find it interesting that my newest occurances both occur on Rising... I know I will NEVER like Do You Close Your Eyes... but LOVE A Light in the Black now in which I always sort of used to see it as a sort of throw away closer.... (I really like the bass line too:)

(Hopefully we can address cd's you like but do not like certain songs... otherwise this post will be over run with Angry Machines songs!!)

Also, I doubt I'll ever fully embrace Shame on the Night, but recently Straight Through the Heart has jumped several spots up my Diver rankings:) Even surpassing Don't Talk... strange how our perspectives change, huh??

"Invisible" making it's way up my charts. Ronnie has a strange quality to his voice on this track that reminds me of deranged hillbilly like Charles Manson, and the effect is hypnotic.

"Naked in the Rain" not likely to soar to new heights.

Having watched Shame on the Night done live over and over again. I actually like it live. Don't Talk will aways be my favorite.

My fab four are: Children of the Sea, Don't Talk, Straight through the Heart and Shame on the Night.

Sure Heaven and Hell but that is like must see TV and the standard classic.

I dont know of any Dio track that I will never warm up to. Even on Angry Machines I give things a break.

Lately I have been listening to a lot of things live which I like to hear how it is done differently from night to night. He improvs so much.

I havent heard anything from Angry machines but MAN, it must not be typical DIO. I got master of the moon, and Magica around the same time, (I actually had to buy Magica off EBAY because NO ONE had it!) and I liked Master, but Magica has to be my fav. at first I thought it was cheezy with the sound effects, but it really started to grow on me. and it just gets better everytime I listen to it. I havent even listened to Master much after getting Magica, probably in time, I'll listen to Master again and it will click. Dio's songs have a strange way of sounding better the more you listen to them, and its like you always hear something new.

Well I dont hate Angry Machines but Strange Highways and Angry Machines I guess you could say were Ronnie's going modern albums.

I liked Hunter of the Heart. I like the beginning bass. Stay Out of My Mind and I like Big Sister. Largely on the latter because I had always joked that it is not big brother we have to worry about but with all this PC Krew going around and the redefinition of things we have to worry about big sister. Then the album came out and I laughed. It is the only topic that I thought about and then later saw Ronnie wrote about it. Ok well I guess you had to be there.

Welcome other zokyo. Many Dio salutations.

I hope that some day I can warm up to "I could have been a dreamer." Everything is just fine with that song, except for the sappy chorus. I hate to say it, but whenever it gets to that point in the song, I almost feel as if I'm listening to Tina Turner or something.

Same for me. If there's any Dio song I actually need to warm up to, the warming up occurs when I see it live. For me, Do You Close Your Eyes has always been one of those few pffff songs even though I was there when they played it live in 76. Only now, I see it again on the Rainbow Munich 77 DVD and hey it's hot there. Ronnie on stage is such a visual experience. I guess I already said that before but he could sing the weather report and I would still be nailed to the screen if it was on video. Shame On The Night instantly captivated me on the record though. I share his night experience.

Cap'n have I pissed you off...? Confused I'd be sorry really...

I really like Shame on the Night...but I really am not too fond of....okay guys, don't rip my head off...Hungry for Heaven. I think it's pretty lame. Close Your Eyes isn't my fav either. I still have to get Angry Machines, LUTW, Magica and some others, so no opinion on them.

One thing I have noticed that bugs me is the way that most of the songs on Carolina County Ball seem to drag on forever. I really love the songs, but I end up skipping to the next song because the song I'm listening to never ends....IMO.

LOL!

I feel the same way. I don't like that song at all. That DOES sound like something Tina Turner would sing.

Don't think I'll ever warm up to Mystery or LA Connection either.

And yet, Bildo makes me laugh again...

Yes, that song rocks..."for places I've been, and what I've seen, for giving me the strangest dreams....and never never let me know just what they mean...." Damn that's good stuff.

I just heard Shotgun Boogie by Elf and changed it quick... Shocked Mad

I recently warmed up to 'Invisible'. I always used to skip it, and when I saw the Holy Diver Live tour, I wasn't particularly looking forward to it's being in the set. But it sounded amazing, and now I don't skip it!

I don't know about ones I'll never warm up to, but one I cooled down on is We Rock. Overkill - totally sick of it now, and that chorus is so cheesy, despite the lack of keyboards. I know I'm in the minority here, but hey. I will admit however that in a live setting it's a different matter, and it makes a great concert closer. We Rock, incidentally, was teh first Dio song I ever heard.
