Kinda surprised at these initial answers with respect to the original post questions...I figured most of you core fans would have seen Ronnie at least 5 times, if not 10-20. Seems like a bunch of you guys have only seen him a couple of times and several of you have NEVER seen him!
Count myself lucky(or maybe "old"?), I guess:
1 Time with Sabbath(Mob Rules tour in '82)
Every DIO tour since LIL with exception of DE and LUTW
ZERO times with Rainbow(too young)
Counting multiple gigs on a few of these tours, I figure it's been at least a dozen times. Not alot by the standards of a few "lifers" on here who have followed him around for some tours(especially in Europe where the travel is more compact). But I'm most proud of the almost 25-year history of seeing most of the tours he's been on...
I hope to see at least one more DIO tour here in the USA and maybe even this potential Sabbath(under the "Heaven and Hell" monicker?) reunion??
Too bad the Rainbow reunion is a 99% dead proposal at this point. Come on Ritchie, how about a phone call to Ronnie for at least a handful of shows worldwide to be able to document it on DVD and with a live album??

Cool story, Jack!
You must have many memories of these shows...
Just as I do.
But my 'DIO show timeline' is not as long as yours.
My first DIO show was in 2004 in Holland, as a part of the Master of the Moon world tour. It was with Craig, Rudy, Simon and Scott. I was blown away! Wow! That was also the first time that I met Ronnie and the band. I forgot my camera, so a German guy took a picture of Ronnie and me, and I had to wait for months to receive it by mail... I was so proud of that pic!
Second time was in june 2005, at Waldrock festival in Holland. It was a good show, but one of the first of the tour, so Ronnie had problems so warm up and it seemed that he was a bit tired. This was with same band as 2004. 2 months later I saw them again at Graspop festival in Belgium. This was much better and Ronnie and the band were full of energy, power and magic! It was a magical show... Will never forget it. Still the same band.
I went to four Dio shows in England in october 2005. My buddy and I made a trip, including the shows in Bristol, Southampton, Birmingham and London. It was a fantastic experience, also to meet Ronnie & band again, for several times! In Southampton they were even in the same hotel! And we were filmed in London, for Holy Diver Live DVD. So everytime I watch that DVD (or listen the CD) all my memories come back from that week in England, with 4 unforgettable shows! Craig was replaced by Doug Aldrich, just a couple shows before we went to England. He did a good job and he's really a nice guy!
June 2006,I went with the same buddy (Bjorn) to Arrow Rock festival here in Holland. Craig was back in the band and it was a great performance! Especially to see and hear them play All The Fools and 'I'...
And also, we had the luck to get backstage when we wanted to (DIO fanclub membership cards ) So we met the band again, unbelievable! Had a beer with Craig...
So that makes the count on 8, within 2 years. _________________ --- BURN (Dutch Heavy Metal) ---

17 and a half...it's all true... ...no adulthood for Rainbow_lightning...
Though I do admit...I'm rather the odd 17 year old of today... |

We've seen Ronnie six times, we wish it were six thousand times.
We think that a lot of Ronnie's fans would love to see him more often but time and money are factors. Ronnie's fans are SO LOYAL that they love him even when he has never played anywhere near them. That's something extra special. We're sure Ronnie would love to play for ALL of his fans but hey, he's just one dude and he does have a rich and rewarding life when he's not touring( if anyone knows when that is, lol). He doesn't stay home much if you follow the tour schedules( they are pretty brutal).
Even when he's not our tour w/ Dio, he often guest appears w/ other bands and does tons of interviews and still finds time to record. What a guy!
That said there's no substitute for a live show, go if you can, save up, sell something(we sold a car to go one time), make seeing Ronnie a goal and you can find ways to make it happen. Don't give up and start now!!!!!!! _________________ Music, Magic and Imagination,

No, No, Nothing Illegal!!!! Geeze. How you gonna enjoy a Dio show from jail?
We meant that there are non obvious ways to raise cash if you're willing to make sacrifices to achieve your goal.
BTW, we know you were joking but felt compelled to reply in case others didn't. _________________ Music, Magic and Imagination,

First let me say, "excuse my language ". I tend to have potty mouth from time to time...hard habit to break.
I am just really suprized at Rainbow's maturity level and knowledge of music. I thought he was like at least mid-forties with some of the things he's written.
That's not to say that you don't possess the same level of music knowledge, but maybe something he wrote struck me as something an adult would write, I don't know. _________________ "...you were a fool but that's cool, it's alright!" |
