Once KNAC was gone there was nothing to listen to. I stopped watching live radio, aka MTV when they started doing that real world crap and wanted to be a network shows channel.

I think I went into mourning when that happened. Remember Pirot Radio? They played a good song for about every 8 or so.

What about calling ourselves the "Dio Demanders" or "American Dio Crusaders"? Lame huh?

But very good point about the demogragraphich at these shows. Mostly middle aged men, some in their twenties, some guys bring their teenage sons, and of course, and a few women like me. No long lines at the womens bathrooms. At least that is what I have seen at all of the Dio shows I have seen in the last 8 years, but then again I'm not really checking out the crowd, more the stage. I go in, get up front, act like a maniac, go backstage (sometimes), then I'm gone. But the people backstage are all my age or older unless they are with their parents. I plan on bringing my teenage daughter to the next show to see them play and meet Ronnie.

We need to be quite specific in what we intend to do because my ADD will kick in and I will forget or get side tracked. Like I said, sign me up and I'm there.

Hi, I haven't been here in a looooong time but this thread caught my eye. I said at the beginning of summer that this was the year I was gonna do concerts! Unfortunatly there haven't been many to do. I live in a small town in Virginia and if we get any "big names" it's going to be country. So 2 concerts this summer, Twisted Sister in NC and Joan Jett 3 hrs away in VA. Sad isn't it? Don't get me wrong, both were good shows but I remember the days growing up when we had to decide which show to go to! The good thing about these shows was that at both of them I saw young people 12-13-14 who were really into the music! It's nice to know theres kids with taste.

And I get so jelous of our friends across the pond, it seems they are getting all the good music, and I questioned why. well the main reason is they can pack a stadium over there, I don't think that can/will happen here. Mainly for the reason that was stated, most people grew up and grew out of the concerts/shows. i don't know how that can happen I can't even imagine growing out of my music! Another part I think is price. We do have a venue in Richmond, it's an outdoor amhitheater and in 2004 they had a few 80's metal bands, twisted sister, and alice cooper come to mind. And they were cheap! $10 for general admission, $30 for gold seat, but then I see the bands like aerosmith that are charging $80-$125 for a show. You know you can justify blowing 10 or 30 even with bills to pay but that $125 is a bit hard to do.

Festivals aren't too popular here either like they are overseas. I think if you could get 5 or 6 80's metal bands playing then people would consider spending more money for a show. I'm really not sure what the answer is, wish we could figure it out.

I have never gotten to see Dio live so would I help promote a local or semi local show? Oh hell yeah!!!!

I don't get it...I just saw the Evil or Devine DVD and the place was completely packed. Were they opening up for someone? I think that was in 2002 in NYC.

New on here - topic caught my eye.

Maryland has a number of good rock venues, but even so, it is not like in the '70s, when there was the Baltimore Civic Center and Merriweather Post Pavillion - both of which hosted hundreds of rock concerts.

I have wondered how one goes about booking a DIO show. I volunteer at a small theatre - former movie theater dating back to the 1920s that is now a cultural arts venue. Even so, they only do about 2 rock shows a year! And this is near a large college.

My fantasy would be to see DIO play there, although the likelihood of that happening is almost zero. The place probably only holds 250 people. But packed, it would be a helluva show!

Yeah, "street teams" might help get the word out, I dunno. There ought to be a way to support RJD and bring him to the fans around the U.S.

Put a package together? Concert ticket, pre-show drinks & food and meet & greet? Would that bring the 40 year olds with short hair out for an evening? I know it would for me.

I've always had a short hair, tho', but never did manage to get a corporate job. Maybe I should grow long hair and start all over again . . . Laughing

Theres absolutely no one in my town that would go to a metal concert. Although Queensryche is gonna be playing about 35 minutes away from here soon... ooh that reminds me I need a ticket... Either way, I would have to go to detroit to catch a good show most of the time, and uhhh, I am NOT a fan of being anywhere near detroit...

Hell yes I would and have.
Dio played Chicago on MOTM Tour, worked with Wendy got a phoner with DIO and passes after the show. Very cool group to work with. Will do what I can to help next go around. Nice when you are the PD of a major station owned by Cumulus.
