Truly a great album in the vain of classic Alice Cooper. The man is a genius.
Like Ronnie, Alice truly has a gift for the lyric. |

I just saw Alice Cooper at Rock Jam on Friday, Sept 9th. Of the 8 acts, he was the best. He played just under 2 hours, with about a dozen costume changes, his boa, a guillotine, 5 half naked women, a straight jacket and a huge stage show.
Earlier in the day, he went golfing here and stopped by a small record store with his daughter.
Since I worked Rock Jam, I was able to meet him and he was great.

He has three of them now. I haven't been there, but my old roommate and my brother went. I wanted one of them to order "The Big Unit" so they would get embarrassed. Didn't happen, but, oh well. _________________ Sit on it, Potsie. |

No, admittedly Alice is not a good singer, but then he never claimed to be. In fact when he met his first manager, they both told the only lies of their working relationship. He said he was a manager and Alice said he was a singer!
By not being able to 'sing' he has increased his vocal lifespan in that no one can listen to any of his recordings and say that his voice is weaker or not what it once was. That's why he can still do all the material from the early 70s flawlessly.
I believe Alice to be the best lyricist around. Ronnie comes a close second, although having said that their styles of writing are totally different. Alice can spin an amazing web with words, having you feeling creeped out, revolted and even scared one moment, and then follow it up with a line which has you rolling on the floor crying with laughter.
Not only that but he is extremely unpredicatable musically, and very varied. He has done hard rock, heavy metal, rap, disco, blues, jazz, beautiful ballads, rock'n'roll, rockabilly, pop, country, concept albums, sung to a church organ, and just about edged punk (ish), just about everything except reggae. He was also one of the first to use a drum machine.
Alice rules. Yet he is underrated. He is known two of his worst songs - Poison and Feed My Frankenstein (although he didn't write FMY - it was Zodiac Mindwarp, so we can let him off), and hardly anyone mentions him when asked 'who are your favourite bands?'
I urge all of you to take more time to look at his work. You won't be disappointed. _________________ Along Came A Spider..... |

He says his next album will be having a psychadelic slant to it. Pretties For You, anybody? _________________ Sit on it, Potsie. |

Actually thats a point. Anyone know a site where I can order Pretties for You and Easy Action? I have had no luck at all, and all leads I've found end up in 'Oh thats been deleated now'.
If he goes back down the psychadelic route, that would be great. Before he retires I'd like to see all the various incarnations of Alice and musical style again, with the possible exception of the 80's pop-metal period, my least favourite period, and Poison is never far from anyone's play list... _________________ Along Came A Spider..... |

Thank God I only remember the Alice of yore. I never heard any of his 80's stuff.
Alice is one of those greats...like Bowie and Neil Young. They've all been around the genre block and back again. Gave a lot to rock & roll.
Longevity!!
And whos says he can't sing? "I Never Cry" was beautifully sung!
Hey, it's rock & roll for cryin' out loud!
Not everyone can sing like Dio! |

That was meant in reply to mgw2525 who said he was not a good singer. I was trying to get the point across that a good singing voice isn't necessary to be the best!
I believe that despite the fact Allce can't 'sing' in the popular sense of the word, he has the BEST rock voice of all time. No voice I have ever heard suits the rock genre more.
You seriously think someone who calls themselves thecoop would come on here and slag Alice off? Nah!
Oh yeah and the Dirty Diamonds album?? So good it could almost be done by the original Alice Cooper band around their peak. Truly amazing disc. _________________ Along Came A Spider..... |
