I love concept albums. One of my favorite things to do concerning concept albums is to read about and analyze songs to gain an understanding of how they relate in terms of their own part in the larger story that is the album. I have done this with many concept albums; The Wall, The Downward Spiral, Antichrist Superstar, etc. Only problem with Magica is that the story is told in a more abstract manner, it's not as easy to figure out how the songs relate to each other. My question is: is there anyone who has actually done this, a webstie, someone who has broken Magica?

As a side note, does anyone else think that the spoken word part is corny as hell? It's actually a pretty good story, it's just the way he tells it...

I hope you listen to the King. Not elvis the good one. King Diamond. If not I can't accept your love of concept albums. King is the best, besides Dio.

But I love Magica. The story part at the end was corny, but good corny.

King Diamond rules. I just wish I could get Mercyful Fate's Melissa on Rhapsody.

I sooooo love Magica. It's fantastic.

Maybe it's one of my favorites. I heard he was going to continue Magica with another concept album, is that true? Did that idea fizzle out????

Erm, no, Pink Floyd gets the honor here, particularly given they started it.

And of course, let's not talk about Opera... Wink

Interesting, i had completely forgotten about those.

If i remember correctly, Genesis also had a concept album around that time.

I've been out of the loop of popular music for a while, my bad... Smile

Try Dream Theater for their amazing masterpiece, Scenes From A Memory.

This one is priceless...

Good pick. That's my favorite album of theirs.

I don't like Magica as a concept album. I like a lot of the songs, but think they are good standalone songs. I think the concept/story part of Magica is goofy as hell.

Scenes From A Memory gets my vote as all-time best concept album. That is if you believe in voting on that kind of thing.

Blind Guardian's "Nightfall in Middle Earth" is my favorite concept album personally, a heavy metal classic.

Alan Parsons Project "I, Robot" and Rush
"2112" for me. The Wall by PF is so down.
It is about a boy who becomes a heroin
addict rock star after his father is killed in
war. All Floyd albums are about drugs.

Mmmh, no, that's not what The Wall is about, and none of the Pink Floyd albums are about drugs.

Roger Waters revealed his opinion of the stoner scene that followed his band by spitting on the face of one of his stoned out fans during concert. That about sums it up...

Is there a difference? Razz

The point is that he wanted to express his contempt for a bunch of loons that didn't understand anything of what he was trying to express in his music.

I think that's why he moved away from the proto-minimalistic sound of Pink Floyd with The Wall, to get rid of all the superficial stoner idiots.

My theory anyway... Very Happy
