Narrowing it down to three is very difficult as it varies upon mood for me plus I tend to group rock and metal together, so I have two favourite vocalists which will never change and the third will have to be a floating choice which varies ipon mood -

Fixed Choices -
Freddie Mercury - one of if not the greatest live frontmen ever and fantastically ranged vocalist and yet to be bettered by anyone.

Ronnie James Dio - Partially the greatest because of the resemblence in voice in places to Freddies (such as on this is your life and some Elf material) but also because of the longevity of his voice. He sounds as fantastic today as he did in the 70's albeit with a mature and deeper voice which is brilliant and imbues his music with a feeling of wisdom and experience. Add into this the fact he's a brilliant lyricist and you have one of the best frontmen ever and the only one to rival Freddie for me.

Floating Choice -
Meat Loaf - A fantastic vocalist with such a powerful voice he sounds the same now as he did 20 years ago - excellent. At his best with Steinmans material but excellent working with Desmond Child too!

Honourable -
Rob Halford - I'm a hug fan of his work with priest and all three of his solo bands (yup - even 2wo) but his voice is shot live now if Rising in the east is anything to go by and his range is starting to decrease which is to be expected after 30 years of performing. Still a fave but should consider shorter tours or longer breaks between shows to save his voice and definitely drop Painkiller from the set.

Rock On!!

I really love Vocalists that are unique. Not always metal, but guys like Steve Perry the second you here it, no one has to tell you who it is you just know that voice. Of course in this Catagory you have guys like RJD as well, there is no mistaking him for anyone else. along with Freddie Mercury, Wow what a voice he had simply amazing and inspiring!!!

Once again, I don't really feel able to comment on "heavy metal" singers, but the greatest hard rock singers I have ever seen live, are Roger Daltrey, Freddie Mercury and Ronnie James Dio. That's pretty good company, Ron!
