Which do you prefer? While I really LOVE Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules, when you throw in LE and Dehumanizer, for me it tips the scale to Rainbow... and 2 months ago if you had told me this, I would have said you're crazy:) Really have been playing a lot of Rainbow:)
RB's Rainbow: 5/5
Rising: 4.5/5
LLRR: 4/5
On Stage: 3/5
H&H: 5/5
MR: 5/5
LE: 3/5 (though I haven't actually heard this in 20 years, skepitcal of buying cuz of the Ozzy tunes)
DEH: 1.5/5 (I really have no use for this. I recognize many here love it, and while I respect it, I find it odd. This reminds me in many ways of AM. And the song Time Machine should be erased from my brain) |

A very tough and great question, but since I MUCH prefer Iommi's style over Blackmore's, and I think that H and H is one of the BEST Rock and Metal albums EVER, adding that to the great Mob Rules follow up and the ASS kicking Heaven and Hell 2, otherwise known as Dehumanizer...I would have to say that hands down...it's Dio Sabbath for me! _________________ Calcitra Clunis |

Good question. Tough call.
STARGAZER is probably my fave RJD song ever, but I guess the Rainbow albums were a bit inconsistant compared to the awesome Sabbath albums so I have to pick Sabbath. _________________ "They'll tell you black is really white. The moon is just the sun at night. It's Heaven & Hell!" |

| I never fail to be astounded by the things we'll do for promises... and a SONG!!! Oh, uh, anyway, it amazes me how different we see certain Dio efforts. To call Dehumanizer Heaven and Hell 2 leaves me in utter disbelief. I see Computer God as an Institutional Man in training and Time Machine is GOD awful, I is passable I suppose... but what exactly about this disc do you love so much (providing you weren't kidding around). |

Tonny style is much darker and heavier than blackmore's...Ritchie is more Rock and Roll oriented, I love both.
I gotta say: I love all the Sabbath w/Dio albums with no exception. From Dehumanizer listen to Dio singing Letters from earth, I, Time machine, Computer god and all of the songs...not to mention the band's performance. _________________ I'm falling from the edge of the world!!! |

I honestly have no idea. All Sabbath and Rainbow albums he's on are in my top 15 alltime albums (yes, even Dehumanizer ..infact...ESPECIALLY Dehumanizer ), so all I can say is I love both bands |

Rainbow evokes stronger imagery while Sabbath evokes stronger concepts.
One transposes the other illuminates. One really needs both bodies of work, and to say one is better than the other is kind of a fallacy, but in the spirit of fun, I'd have to pick Sabbath due to the bulk of the material being better overall.
Rainbow with Dio only really has an album worth of songs I enjoy:
Kill the King
Stargazer
Tarot Woman
Long Live Rock and Roll
Gates of Babylon
Rainbow Eyes
A Light in the Black
Man on the Silver Mountain
Temple of the King
That's really it for me and Rainbow, quite frankly. It's possible that I've overlooked a track or two that I'd be ready for in my age.
But with Sabbath, It's easier to list the songs I don't like that much:
Walk Away
Lonely Is the World
Wishing Well
Over and Over
Slipping Away
Letters from Earth
So, Sabbath, but both are equally crucial.

| cant decide...love it all...seems more likely that Ronnie & Sabbath could make it happen again...Ritchie is as reclusive as they come...whats wrong with him? |

| all are good..but I'd have to say overall Sabbath's is better for H & H and Mob Rules are awesome. Dehumanizer never heard all way through, nor live eveil so no help there. |

Tough topic--like asking, "Who do you love MORE, your son or your daughter?" Answer, "Both the SAME"??
Like Scot and several others, I'd have to go with a slight nod to the Sabbath years, mostly because of the near perfection of HEAVEN AND HELL(the album, and not to mention the song, too). Also, even though both bands gave us 3 studio LP's with Dio on vocals, the Sabbath stuff sounds better-produced as far as the recordings were concerned.
Lastly, I'd give a slightly higher grade to Ronnie for cohesively fitting into Tony's guitar style, although Ronnie and Ritchie obviously wrote very well together, too. I just feel like Ronnie and Tony were "magical" in every sense of the word...
