I love both Iron Maiden and Dio (and Black Sabbath and Rainbow), but narrowing the bands' down to just the singers is like pulling either a molar and an incisor out of a mouth. Dio is the ever important, heavy, pounding molar in my odd analogy, and Dickinson the sharp, chopping incisor. With the way songs are written in Dio (the band) the singing is very prominent, necessary and, indeed the focus of the music apart from the guitar solo is on the singing. In Maiden, all the instruments are cranked up a few notches, instrumentals and extended guitrar solos are expected, and the singing is more of a spice than a foundation of most Maiden songs.

1 vote for Dio.

Both singers are my great favorites. My great idols!
I dare to call Ronnie and Bruce my legends of metal Cool

My vote for Ronnie. Bruce and Ronnie they both can sing nice ballads and metal. Differents between them is quite small, but they turn this to Ronnie....

Listen Rainbow eyes and from other side Don´t talk to stranger.. Ronnie has more harmony and other hand more that "hellish" power, dark sound, killing, smashing... Wink

If Bruce sings aswell as nowadays at the age of 60´s then I say that Bruce is better... until then My vote for Ronnie.

Thanks

Peke

Iron Maiden are my favourite band and always will be, but I'd say Ronnie is the better vocalist. Bruce is excellent now, but he had some horrible moments through the 80's (IMO), especially live. I found he was often off-key and "pitchy" back in the day. One of the things that amazes me most about Ronnie, is that he generally sounds as good live as he does on the albums. As much as I love Bruce and Maiden, some of the older live stuff is almost unlistenable due to the vocals being so "off". Maiden England, for example, was terrible. That said, I think Bruce is at his absolute best right now, and even when he had some bad vocal performances all those years ago, he made up for it in enthusiasm and stage performance. Again, this is all just my opinion. Not calling it fact or anything.

I like the both of them - they're both as awesome as each other in their individual styles.

I respect Iron Maiden and Bruce just as much as any band, but he isn't in the same league as Ronnie. I mean, Bruce's style is unorthodox and an aquired taste, while Ronnie can be enjoyed and respected by any fan of metal.

Bruce has a better range but Ronnie never lets his limitations affect him vocally (well, not to my ears yet). But after hearing Bruce tackle "Rainbow in the Dark" and forgetting the lyrics I have to say that Ronnie come out on top. No offence to Bruce, who is a world class singer.

It's also great that the two of them are good mates. With all the trouble Maiden had at Ozzfest all I could say to my non-Sabbath loving friends were "This would never have happened if Ronnie was the Sabs singer"...Also, wearing my H&H T-shirt to my last Maiden gig got me some nods of respect from Maiden's staff.

This is a foolish question.....since Bruce comes off as a wanker on stage, I'll go with DIO every time!

I'm listening to Iron Maiden as I type this, but NO ONE EVER IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND could be a better singer than Ronnie Dio!!!

I love Maiden and they do define metal, but Dio's the best singer I've ever heard and ever will hear. I like deep gruff voices a lot more than "screamers" like Dickinson, although Bruce is the only singer for Maiden for me. He does have a huge stage presence and is passionate about his performances. But this is the Dio forum and I should think most people on here would be biased towards the little man with the big voice. I am.

"Scream for me Dio!" Very Happy
