After being introduced to Dio in 1983 on Holy Diver, my friends told me there was a whole library of Ronnie James Dio music available from Rainbow to Black Sabbath that I hadn't heard. This was one of the first ones I heard, and it blew me away.

The pounding drum on "Southern Cross", the riff of "VooDoo", strange sounds of E5I50 were enough to satisfy me until I found the next LP. True classic metal. There was a lot of talk of the devil back in the 80's, and I know he must have enjoyed this album as much as we did. Tony Iommi really tore it up on this one. So glad they got to play these songs again in Heaven and Hell.

If you haven't heard this record, you won't be sorry.

Jeffrey

This is a totally worthy buy.

Every song is fantastic.

A classic album.

Rather than say too much, I will just say it's so worth it.

I love
Voodoo
Country Girl
Falling off The Edge of the World
Over & Over

Heck, they're all good. You can't not appreciate this album if you like Dio.

I never get tired of this album, and call me crazy, but I actually prefer it to "Heaven & Hell" - which I also love, but "Mob Rules" just has a slight edge for me.

Killer riffs & solos, excellent singing and lyrics from RJD, and Geezer and Vinnie play their asses off too.

I have to agree....I like Heaven and Hell but I think Vinny coming in on this record gave the band a harder edge. I think it shook the rythm section up for the better.

Favourite track is Falling of the Edge of the world

Yes, I think Vinnie is a far more skilled drummer than Bill.

You can hear it on this recording. The drumming is powerful.

I listened 3 times to this album over the last 2 days. Wink

Not sure I would agree that Vinnie is a more skilled drummer, he is much more of a rock player where as Bill is more open, more Jazzy player.

I suspect its due to the timings of when the started playing.

I like Bills drumming a great deal ( as a drummer myself I can appreciate his playing a lot) but I think Vinnie, along with improved production, hardened up the sabbath sound and created a much stronger vib for Ronnies lyrics.

Now thats just my opinion....I am sure there are many who woudl disagree.

I could see how you feel that way. Rather than saying Vinnie is better, perhaps I should have said his style is better for this music.

Lonely is The Word has been ringing in my head all morning long.

Truly, Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules have a certain soulful genuine quality in the writing. I don't know if this is the best way to say it.

As Ronnie said, 'These are classic rock albums.' I so feel this is true in the tone, plus, there is a definite 'heart and soul' in them that is quite unlike anything. I'm just saying the emotions run deeper with the songs on these albums. I feel it. The heavy stuff doesn't get into me emotionally in the same way.

The latter recordings w/Dehumanizer and The Devil in You, they are dark, heavy and marvelous, but I see them as a totally different style. They are more mean and heavy.

Again, I just positively hear heart and soul in those two early Dio/Sabbath albums that is legendary.

I much prefer this album to Heaven and Hell, Ronnie carried his trademark stance with the sword n sorcery type lyrics. The best stuDio album out of the lot from Black Sabbath/Heaven and Hell/Dio albums. PowerKnight Twisted Evil

i love all the tracks on Mob Rules (Great Album) - i also just wish i had a time machine to take me back to the actual Mob Rules Tour in 1982 at the Hammersmith Odeon , it was a shame the actual show was not filmed for a video or dvd release folks , like someone already said i do prefer this album more than to Heaven & Hell Actually , thank god they put the Live At Hammersmith Odeon as an extra disc with the new deluxe edition folks , at least we can hear what it was like on the Mob Rules Tour in 82 .
