I read the post about the Dio Disciples Tour, with Dio's bandmates touring in Europe and some US dates to be announced.
For vocals I see Ripper Owens and I guess the other name is another singer, Toby Jepsum or something like that. Anybody know who that is or if he is a singer?
Glad that they will get together for some shows. Will help them heal, get to enjoy Dio's music together again.
Should be an interesting tour. Hope to see them.

Great news.
Can't wait to see them here in Germany.
Ripper's kinda cool dude and the rest of the band... brilliant.
Support 'em and keep Ronnie's spirit alive! _________________ They tell you black is really white

Not quite sure about how I feel. I think it's a great idea, after all, songs are written to played.. But it would just be so weird not to have Ronnie singing them.. Somehow my brain doesn't seem to accept another voice on those, always looking for his unique voice and delivery.. _________________ Carry high the torch given by the Angel

I think of it as a Tribute to Dio and his music. Like seeing a cover band that plays Priest or Maiden. They play the songs they love because of their appreciation and respect for the music.
But for them personally, they performed these songs and wrote these songs with Ronnie. So they have even more connection to the songs than us. These songs are still inside of them and they want to play them, and pay their respects to Ronnie.

First of all, this imoprtant announcement was not posted first on DIO fomal web site is regretfull. Dio official site of Twitter is just located in Facebook instead of DIO fan club site.
It is so shame and DIO official web site became just a advertising shop with core fans' sincerelity and loyalty.
And I'm not positive about DIO tour with other singers.
Because DIO band without Ronnie never be DIO anymore.
It's just like Thin Lizzy.
Even if Dio boys will not have a tour with other singers, DIO music will stay alive and live forever.
If they want to do a tribute live, they should do one or two show instead of big world tour.
I cannot accept other singers' voices to sing DIO songs as DIO band. Tim Ripper Own is surely great, but he is not Ronnie.
Ronnie is one and only giant and greatest existance ever.
I feel so unconfortable to form DIO tour or make Magica album with other singers.
To me, it seems just like money making project. _________________ ☆Tell me lies as long as it's not about love☆ |

Well, I must be the only one seeing this through rose colored glasses. I was sad when Ronnie past of course. Knowing I would never see my favorite songs performed again live.
But if they come my way, I will still get a second chance, and instead of a cover band, it will be his former bandmates who knew him best.
I have to think that they are doing it for themselves to heal, for respect of Ronnie's music and message. I don't want to assume it is a money making opportunity for them.

Would that be Toby Jepson, formerly of Little Angels? Good band back in the late 80's/early 90's. The single Kicking up Dust was excellent. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbD_BurVYrM
Can't imagine TJ singing Dio songs though. |

Ooops I clicked the wrong button...??? OK, start again.
Of course any choice of vocalist to "replace" Ronnie is always highly disputable. But we can't get around the fact that Ronnie will never return. Does it mean that his songs will also be gone forever, from stages all around the world? It was Ronnie's own will that they live on. I know this first hand.
That's why I'm just happy that the band has decided to carry on. It doesn't really matter to me who's on vocals, as long as they are technically able to do a proper job. Tim Ripper has got the skills for sure. I think that's all we can ask for. In all other aspects of performance, there will never be a proper replacement for Ronnie. I guess we all agree here.
Yes it's weird... the thought of someone whoever fronting the Dio band. But it will be Ronnie's own tunes, his words, his message, coming alive on stage once again. Just a different voice. I believe they all deserve every possible support, to keep Ronnie's spirit alive.
