I would chose two: Vivian and Craig
Viv, because he was the first in DIO, he was great and he was involved in the writing of HD, LIL and SH.
Craig I loved for his playing the songs in the way they were wrote.
He was never a poser (as Doug Aldrich) and was a conterpart to Ronnie. _________________ No more night-I´ve seen the light

Vivian and Traci G.
They both certainly have two different styles. I love Vivian's fast precision on Holy Diver. Traci's harmonics scream insane and it's beautiful with aggressive metal riffs. Jesus, Mary and the Holy Ghost is one of my favorite Dio songs.
It's worth noting that I prefer both Ritchie from Rainbow and Toni from Black Sabbath over both these Dio guitarists. I know it was asked which Dio guitarist, but it's hard for me to think of Dio without these two other guys who comprise much of my favorite Dio work of all. _________________ "Too many flames, with too much to burn, and life's only made of paper." - RJD |

Gawd, what a question. Viv was the original, and played on my favourite songs so it has to be him. Craig and Doug are both fantastic musicians though and come a very close 2nd and 3rd after a photo finish. The exact order depends who I'm listening to at that moment. I think I'm influenced by the production too, the first 2 albums were raw, then Dio sounded more polished from Sacred Heart onwards.
For me Dio went off the boil with Lock up the Wolves, went downhill fast after that, and didn't recover until Craig came back. After that we had Killing the Dragon, which is a great album - love Doug's solo on Push.
Of the others, Rowan was very good live, especially given his age, but is never going to win this poll with just one mediocre album (compared to what went before).
I'm not a fan of Traci G at all. Nothing against him, but I just don't feel his style ever suited Dio. Ronnie obviously felt differently, and kept him for a couple of albums. |

to me the Lock up the Wolves albums was the what the fuck album it had some good tunes on it notably my eyes, born on the sun, hey angel and lock up the wolves, the rest was just bad i think strange highways is a good album angry machines was solid but magica killing the dragon and master of the moon are all great IMO _________________ they'll take your diamonds and give you steel youll be caught in the middle of the madness lost like them and part of all the pain that they feel AND ALL THE FOOLS SAILED AWAY- Ronnie James Dio |

my first thought was: Vivian, but I love Rowan's bluesy style as well(I truly love Lock up the wolves), Tracy is very overlooked, in my opinion Strange highways is very good album, albums with Craig on guitar are great(especially MOTM), however I do not like Dream evil too much, Doug played on only one album and he did a great job
so my final list of DIO guitarist is:
1. Viv
2. Rowan
3.Craig, Doug
4.Tracy
I'd to add something too: Ritchie and Tony destroys all Dio guitarist without a problem _________________ So live for today

Rowan's amazing on Lock Up the Wolves. That album sounds beautiful and everything is recorded with super precision.
Dio's voice was impeccable on it. _________________ "Too many flames, with too much to burn, and life's only made of paper." - RJD |

Gosh, such a hard list to make since I love all the albums, and each guitarist is absolutely brilliant and way better than most other guitarists.
Tentative, just me at the moment, it seems.
1. Doug
2. Craig
3. Rowan
4. Viv
5. Tracy _________________ So if a stranger sees you
