"The last week of the American tour he was in agony. I'll always remember he came out for the very last gig and we said, "Look Ronnie, if you're that ill we'll just blow the gig." And he said, "No, I'm not gonna blow the gig." And he was literally doubled up in pain."

Man I'll tell ya, there was no way for the fans to know he was in pain. The show was flawless. In fact it was the best of the 4 shows that I got to see since they reunited. Nobody in the band missed a beat. Ronnie was energetic, sounded powerful and flawless not missing a lyric. I know a video was recorded from that show but I wish the entire show had been recorded. |

Interesting interview.......Joe Siegler and Damain over at Black Sabbath explained that they wanted to film more of the show from the front of the stage but management said no and only 1 song away from the stage........may well be that they did this because of Ronnie - would certainly explain it, but this is just my though not anything official. _________________ Stand up and Shout!!!!! |

Same at the show I saw in Boston, Aug 28. I had no idea, and it was clear no one else in the audience did either. I just came away from that show thinking what a great performance it was, and what a great performer Ronnie was.
So that's his victory: now everyone can say he was at the top of his game until the very end. He never gave anything but his best, and his best was like nothing else I've ever seen.
I hate to think what he was going through physically at that show-- but dammit, he was kicking arse and he knew it. He wasn't going to let anything bring him down, stop him from doing what he loved. The moral victory against the disease was clearly his.
As a friend of mine on another forum pointed out when I was having a hard time dealing with learning how bad off he was at the show: we watched a real live dragon-slaying on stage that night. Dio "punched [that dragon's] face in, but with a smile." |
