I have the VHS copy of Special from the Spectrum - a concert on "Last in Line" tour. Love it for many years, still watch it.
Is the "We Rock" DVD" worth a purchase if I already have the "Spectrum" show? I think "We Rock" has the Spectrum show and a Holy Diver show. What songs are on the Holy Diver section? How are the sound and video?
My VHS show is showing some wear. The band was great together on that tour. I think I've seen some footage from HolyDiver show on MTV in the 1980s. Is that where he does a long version of "Silver Mountain"?
Any help would be appreciated. I love watching DIO perform on stage.
Thank you.

This DVD is definitely worth the purchase if only for the reason that videotape will deteriorate with age but a DVD will not. Plus the DVD is in 5.1 surround. This is one of my favortie DVD's. This is the description from Amazon:
MAIN CONCERT: DIO at The Spectrum, Philadelphia
1. Don't Talk To Strangers
2. Mystery
3. Egypt / Drum Solo / Heaven & Hell / Guitar solo / Heaven & Hell
4. Last In Line
5. Rainbow In the Dark
6. Mob Rules
7. We Rock
DIO in Utrecht, Holland
1. Stand Up & Shout
2. Straight Through The Heart
3. Shame On The Night
4. Children Of The Sea
5. Holy Diver
6. Rainbow In The Dark
7. Don't Talk To Strangers
DIO:
Ronnie James Dio - Vocals
Vinny Appice - Drums
Jimmy Bain - Bass
Vivian Campbell - Guitar
Running Time 100 minutes approx
Extras Exclusive interview with Ronnie James Dio, recorded in Belgium 2005 (approx running time 25 minutes) |

I wrote this about the dvd, 5 years ago
| Quote: |
At last a dvd with Vivian Campbell on it,recorded when DIO was a major force in the 80s,the main headline act always.
this dvd has 2 concerts on it,DIO ''live'' in Holland and DIO ''live'' in USA,at the time of theses concerts DIO had ''Holy Diver'' and ''Last in Line'' released so you have various tracks from theses cds, also some Black Sabbath songs like ''Children of the sea'',''Heaven and Hell''and ''Mob Rules'',the DIO songs which stand out for me are the performances of ''Shame on the night'',''Egypt'',''Holy Diver'' and ''We Rock'',the sound from this dvd is brillant 5.1 surround sound, the digital age has been good to Dio as the sound is crystal clear,if you have missed out on a ticket for this month's uk tour, then buy this now and let Dio take you back to a time when Dio Rocked, there is also an interview filmed in August 2005 where Dio talks about his classic years with Rainbow and Black Sabbath and goes into detail regarding the release of the great Holy Diver cd,I should also say the art work on this dvd is brillant. All fans must have this in there collection. |

I was convinced to order the DIO DVD "We Rock". But before I order it, does anyone know the difference between the purple cover and the orange/fire look cover?
I found them both on Amazon.com. The purple one looks like an old piece of paper with a black and white photo of Dio, and the other looks more like a Last in Line type image. Can't tell the listings on the purple one. I don't want to order without knowing which one I'd rather have, or if they are the same with a different cover.
Thank you. _________________ Ronnie James Dio is a legend |

Jeffrey
Sorry I am just trying to keep the forum nice and tidying.
Okay the purple one is still by Universal it was released later, Nov 2008, the one with the dragons on the cover was released Oct 2005, the purple one is just a reissue with some added pictures.
Rock Legends Live series of concert performances by some of Rock's finest live outfits. |

Trouble is with this DVD double it`s butchered, Vinny`s drum solos are missing for a start and although I haven`t played this for a while something else appears missing. Why do they do these silly things??? PowerKnight _________________ Joust With Thee

@Jeffrey
Take the cheaper one,or the one you prefer for the cover - they are ident.
The Missing Tracks:
Holland:Drum-Solo,Heaven&Hell (best version ever!)
Philadelphia: Stand up & Shout
The Dvd is worth for the Quality.
But the best choice is to get the Dvd AND the VHS-Live in Europe for the missing tracks (Heaven & Hell,20 min)! _________________ No more night-I´ve seen the light

Hi Holymagica,
Sorry if I made a mistake but I was pretty certain that the item I was talking about was a 'new' release. Unlike the We Rock DVD this apparently has 2 discs. One an Audio CD and the other a DVD. Not sure which is which but the track listings don't seem to suggest that it is the We Rock DVD repackaged. Try searching Amazon UK or Play.com for 'Dio Live - We Rock'. Again, sorry if I'm wrong but I'm sure it's a different thing.

I cant find any official information about this one. Only that its beiong released by a record label called Candlelight and they have no info about it.............Guess I will wait until its release date and see what people have to say about it!
Wonder if Dean at Niji knows anything about it? _________________ Stand up and Shout!!!!! |

Well, I had said in my original post about this that despite extensive searching I had found out very little.
There does seem to be a double vinyl release due out in January with the same artwork but presumably without the DVD! The distributor website doesn’t even provide a track list and the label website Candlelight I couldn’t find (and more about that in a min).
The only information I could find was in a Japanese blog. They seemed to think that it was an audio concert from San Jose 83 and the DVD parts are possibly taken from the previously released concerts. But my Japanese is very basic and I only managed to get a very rough translation over the phone from my Japanese girlfriend at Uni. She did say that it claims that the record label website, Candlelight, has a virus or something – so beware!
Any early live Dio is fine with me and I would dearly love to see the complete versions of Utrecht and the Spectrum (ie drum solos et al) but again, the track listing is quite odd. The audio disc looks like a Holy Diver set except for One Night and We Rock. |

| Sorry to double post, but I do suspect that this may have a bit of a cash-in feel about it. And I personally think that the artwork is pretty terrible. |
