Whenever an original vocalist leaves or is replaced, Bands have to choose whether or not to continue down the smae path. Rainbow could not have replaced Dio with someone else doing the same thing. They needed to change to continue. Just like Sabbath with Dio, although they stayed true to metal, the song writing was different. They took on Dio's mystical persona. The same thing is true of bands like Van Halen, Sammy and Dave are two totally different guys.

JLT had a great song in No Release while with Rainbow

Rainbow died and the whole dream died upon Ronnie`s departure back in 78. How on earth could Ritchie contemplate another singer when he had the ultimate of them all.
I really think Ritchie had some form of breakdown into his ideas of mass commercialism, and they were really bad at it anyway.
Stranger with Doogie on vox restored some kind of credibility and a cracking album and line up with it. PowerKnight Twisted Evil

Rainbow did something many bands cant do and that is continue with a new vocalist. Graham Bonnett and JLT bought very different things to the table and the band evolved around that - BUT no matter what anyone states Rainbow was Ritchies band and he chose where to take it. Ronnie was the apprentice and when he quickly became the master Ritchie got rid.....as he did with many musicians through the bands lifetime.

Stranger in us all with Dougie White on Vocals was the best post-Dio rainbow albums........I like Rainbow through the years, but Dio led Rainbow was the untimate.

Of course it was Ritchie`s band but when you consider as Ritchie said back in 75 he wanted a guitar/singer songwriting album plain and simple with the first Rainbiw album.
This is what he got and I wouldn`t consider Ronnie the apprentice, it was a 50/50 partnership that developed into much greater things. PowerKnight Twisted Evil

i love all the rainbow albums , but after Dio i did love Graham Bonnet,s voice aswell , i still play the Down To Earth every now & then , it was a shame that Bonnet only done 1 album with rainbow , i also have some of Bonnet,s solo works on cds , but to me nothing beats Down To Earth , i especially love the track Eyes Of The World which Bonnet still does (Live) in his performance nowdays , i went to see him play live a couple of years ago & had the pleasure of meeting Graham at the Walthamstow Standard in east london + i got him to sign my copy of Down To Earth , even though i have all the rainbow albums , i just recently brought the rainbow anthology 1975 - 1984 which is a great compilation with some differant unreleased tracks .

Did you mean unreleased versions of releases tracks, or REALLY unreleases tracks?

I love all era's of Rainbow equally. It was through Dio that I discovered Rainbow back in 83 and have been a fan ever since. Dio will always be my favorite singer but you have to give Ritchie Blackmore some credit with finding talented vocalists for Rainbow and evolving the band's sound.
