Rod Smallwood, IRON MAIDEN's longtime manager, told The New York Times that more than 800,000 copies of the band's latest album, "The Final Frontier", had been shipped to retailers around the world by the end of last week, with the group having sold about 85 million records in its 30-year career.
"A lot of bands could learn a lot from MAIDEN," Smallwood said. "MAIDEN is essentially about the relationship with the fans, and nothing comes between that. They don't want to be rock stars. They just enjoy playing for the fans."
According to David Kassler, chief operating officer of EMI for Europe, digital tracking services showed only small levels of illegal downloading of "The Final Frontier", whcih is attributable in part to the fact that IRON MAIDEN's songs do not fit the mold of a radio single — three of them, on the newest release, are more than nine minutes long.
"You'd expect some people to be pirating, but they don't," Kassler told The New York Times. "They want the physical album. They love the artwork, the lyrics. It's something they want to show their friends and family."
According to Joel McIver, a London-based writer who is the author of "Justice for All: The Truth About Metallica", and other books about heavy metal, there are plenty of lessons for the music industry in IRON MAIDEN's continued success: "Invest in the long term. Apply an image. Give the fans what they want. Tour and keep touring. Play the festival circuit. Embrace new technology. Be innovative. Be honest. Be original. Write good songs."

I have watched something on TV called

Iron Maiden, Flight 666

It is a documentary about the band's special tour they did in 2008.

I have to be honest, in so many ways, this was amazing. You get a feel for how huge this band is. The logistics for all the production of this thing are just truly mind blowing.

I am blown away by this story. I highly recommend it to Maiden fans, and in my own way, I gotta suggest seeing it high as a kite.

It's just an incredible story.

Dio attended their LA Show. I was bummed they didn't get any words from him.

I got a huge buzz from this story.

Truly, if you see how Iron Maiden transcends all kinds of countries and cultures, it's truly fascinating. I cannot believe how big this band is, moreover, w/out much radio support!

Unbelievable. Totally worth watching.

Even if you're not an Iron Maiden fan, it's really worth it. I can't help but imagine the man hours that went into the whole tour and the movie production.

Also, this is the kind of story that I like. If you put IM on VH1 and tried to get them laid by hot chicks, I'd hate it. But this is exactly what I want from a band like this, i.e. THE STORY! On stage, behind the scenes, in the studio, and about the MUSIC! Told personally!

And BRUCE IS THE AIRPLANE PILOT! HA! Freaking amazing.

Haven't seen the Flight 666 documentary yet (though I definitely want to). But my BIL was telling me about how they decided for this tour they wanted to:

1. set the world record for the biggest tour ever (most stops ever, six continents) and
2. only include places they had never played before

And that between these too things, they played in A LOT of places that NEVER get bands as "huge" as Maiden. And that the energy at the concerts is incredible, because they're full of lifelong Maiden fans who thought they would NEVER have a chance to see the band live, but then amazingly, the band came to them!

And then of course, there's this:

So, yeah, that documentary is definitely on my short list.

I really do like a bit of Iron Maiden myself folks i must say , & no kidding folks when i was only 14 years of age back in 1978 , i use to walk past the ruskin arms pub in manor park east london on a sunday night & they will be playing live in there with lead singer Paul Di`Anno at the time , i actually use to live in manor park right up till when i was 17 years of age , i now live in Dagenham Essex , i also been to see Maiden play live many times over the years , & just like bass player Steve Harris im also a big fan of West Ham football team , also when i went to see Dio on the Dream Evil Tour back in 1987 at Hammersmith Odeon , Maidens drummer Nico McBrian done a oncore guest appearance on the drums for Rainbow In The Dark , i do also know that Ronnie was a good friend of Iron Maiden aswell folks , they are truely a great heavy metal band , no doubts about it .

IRON MAIDEN have posted another graphic on their official web site featuring the Union Jack flag as a backdrop — prompting speculation that they will reveal U.K. dates as part of their "Final Frontier World Tour". The official announcement will be made at NOON on Thursday, November 11.

JULY
Wed 20 - Scotland, Glasgow SECC
Thu 21 - Scotland, Aberdeen AECC P&J Arena
Sat 23 - England, Newcastle Metro Radio Arena
Sun 24 - England, Sheffield Motorpoint Arena
Wed 27 - England, Nottingham Trent FM Arena
Thu 28 - England, Manchester MEN Arena
Sun 31 - England, Birmingham NIA

AUGUST
Mon 1 - Wales, Cardiff CIA Arena
Wed 3 - Northern Ireland, Belfast Odyssey
Fri 5 - England, London O2 Arena

This will be an extensive 10 city arena tour for the final run of dates on their FINAL FRONTIER WORLD TOUR 2010/11. For the first time in many years, the band will be playing shows across the full length and breadth of the UK, including places they’ve not visited for up to three decades!
Steve Harris comments; “Everything in the Maiden camp has been so full on these last five years or so that we haven't travelled around the UK to play for our home fans for almost that long. These fans supported us by coming to Twickenham Stadium, Reading and Leeds Festivals, Download and more recently Sonisphere so we thought we should get off our backsides and do the travelling this time and get round the country to see them all. We very much look forward to playing all four home countries and a couple of places we haven’t been for a very long time, Aberdeen and Belfast! And playing the O2 gets us as close to the East End of London where Maiden started off than we have been for many a year, probably since the Ruskin Arms! All in all l think this is going to be a very special series of shows and a wonderful way to end this whole world tour.
“We intend to take the full stadium show into the UK arenas and fit everything we possibly can into each venue. The set list will be different to this year’s tour. Of course we will play more songs from the new album and some other recent material, but we intend to include a healthy dose of older fan favourites too for those who haven’t seen us before, plus a spectacular light show and stage set, not forgetting, of course, …Eddie!”
The UK shows will be the culmination of The Final Frontier World Tour, which began in June 2010 with a hugely successful 25 date tour throughout North America, followed by selected European stadium and festival shows, including Knebworth Sonisphere in the UK. As recently announced, early next year Ed Force One will fly the band, crew and equipment 50,000 miles around the World visiting thirteen countries before the band take a short break prior to the extensive European Tour (more announcements soon) of which the UK is the final leg.
As always we hope to facilitate “First To The Barrier” for our fan club members at as many shows as possible, details of these will be announced nearer the time on this website.
There will be an exclusive first ticket pre-sale for Iron Maiden Fan club members, before tickets go on sale to the general public on Saturday November 20th. Please keep checking this website for updates about ticket sales and further information about the special fan club pre-sale.

i bet your glad (Holly) that Maiden are doing a couple of arena dates in scotland at long last , i been reading things on planet rock,s website lately & a lot scotish fans have been complaining that Iron Maiden have rarely played any Live arena dates for a good few years now , a lot of the scotish fans always have to travel all the way down to London sometimes to see them , i must say (Holly) the scots rarely do get a good look in with some bands sometimes , because when you get someone like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, or even Black Sabbath , they only do 1 or 2 nights at a venue if your lucky , i hope it dont sell out to quick for you scots up there folks .

Brave New World was the last tour, I saw Iron Maiden play.
Sometimes Scotland does get a bad deal for gigs but some artists always come back, Ronnie James Dio always made sure there was a Scottish date when he was on tour, he loved the noise we made.

Last time i see Maiden was at Earls Court Arena in London 2006 , on the Matter of Life & Death Tour , they played the album all the way through / then only done about 5 old songs from thier back catalogue , i much prefer it when they only play 4/5 songs from a new album , then the rest is old favourites , like they did on the Brave New World Tour which i also saw back in the year 2000 at Earls Court aswell .

i wish they would bring back Phantom Of The Opera , Transylvania , & 22 Acacia Avenue , back to the set list for a change .

I also just bought Eddies Achive boxset / it is brillant as its got some very rare (Live) stuff on it .

Ex-IRON MAIDEN Singer PAUL DI'ANNO Faces Jail Time For Falsely Claiming Benefits
According to the Daily Mail, former IRON MAIDEN singer Paul Di'Anno (real name: Paul Andrews) is facing jail time after he falsely collected U.K. government benefits by claiming he suffered nerve damage to his back that prevented him from working.
Di'Anno, 52, admitted swindling taxpayers out of more than £45,000 (approximately $72,000) by claiming a range of incapacity benefit, housing benefit and council tax handouts, by stating he was to ill to work, between 2002 and 2008. He claimed to be suffering from Sciatica, or nerve damage to the back.
D'Anno was reportedly busted when investigators at Department Of Work And Pensions (DWP) received an anonymous tip that he was still singing. They then found videos and pictures on YouTube and the rocker's own web site of Di'Anno "energetically leaping around on stage, singing to fans around the world."
Honorary Recorder Judge Andrew Barnett told Di'Anno at yesterday's hearing at at Salisbury Crown Court, "You have got the sense and courage to plead guilty to these matters, but you have to understand that they are very serious.
"Although all sentence options will be open, you should prepare yourself for a prison sentence — and an immediate one at that."
Di'Anno will be sentenced on March 11.

Great singer, but I don't know what's led him to this. I guess royalties from the first two Maiden albums aren't paying that much.
