Unfortunately from what I've seen ,both concerts are not complete. The first one(1983) is missing at least one song(Evil Eyes was played 100%.I'm not sure if Don't talk to strangers was played on that day.)
The second show(1987),there are 3 songs missing(Stand up and shout,Sunset Superman & We Rock).I have the bootleg of this show, and those 3 songs are on it.

A Review
Rating: A
Niji Entertainment was created before Ronnie James Dio succumbed to stomach cancer. In fact, on this release, Ronnie is posthumously credited as Executive Producer. Ronnie was very mindful that he was dying and he wanted to leave his legacy in the good hands of his wife, and manager, Wendy Dio and a close group of trusted friends. This was very important to Ronnie because music, and his fans, were important to him and he wanted to be sure to give all he could give, even from beyond the grave.

DIO at Donington UK: Live 1983 & 1987 does more than simply survive the test of time; it is a timeless look back at DIO doing what he did best...sing and entertain in front of tens and thousands of Metal Heads. The concerts have been remastered from the original recordings so the sound is top notch. Both disks feature great set lists and lineups. The 1983 disc is the better of the two as this concert featured the classic DIO lineup with Ronnie being joined onstage by Viv Campbell on guitar, Jimmy Bain on bass, Vinny Appice on drums and Claude Schnell on keyboards.

Donington was home to the Monsters of Rock Festival and in 1983; DIO was promoting his debut album Holy Diver. Ronnie had guts as the entire Metal community was watching and wondering if he had what it takes to lead his own band instead of simply being the front guy for bands like Elf, Black Sabbath and Rainbow. Dio was poised and already a veteran of the stage so he knew the answer to the fans query; he just needed to get out there and prove it and no place was better suited for DIO than Donington.

With a set list that included "Stand Up and Shout," "Man on the Silver Mountain," "Children of the Sea," "Rainbow in the Dark," "Heaven and Hell" and Straight Through The Heart" he did just that. The crowd responded with a roar and the guys following DIO suddenly gulped at the thought of having to follow THAT.

By 1987, Ronnie had taken his solo band to the heights of the Special Guest spot on the Donington bill. The band performed before headliner Bon Jovi. Opening for Bon Jovi and Dio were Cinderella, W.A.S.P., Anthrax and Metallica. Again, the band fired the crowd up with a set list that included many of the aforementioned classics along with "Last In Line," "Neon Knights," "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll" and "Rock and Roll Children."

The Metal world may have lost Ronnie James Dio but his legacy lives on and is in good hands. As fans we can relish in what was, and remember the importance of Ronnie James Dio when it comes to the music we love. Not only was he a great front man, vocalist and lyrist but he also took time to meet, and go out of his way to thank, the fans. He loved the music but he also loved the people who he shared it with. Like so many other Brits in here Cool ...I first heard this concert on the Radio ''The Friday Rock Show with the late Tommy Vance''

The most important man EVER on Radio in the UK!
When he left the BBC...I never again listen to music radio again.
Tommy was playing Holy Diver long before he was released in the shops in the UK, he made it very clear this album was something very special,I will never forget this moment becoz like many others out there listening to Tommy Vance playing Holy Diver I rushed out and bought it on its release date...my group of friends all gathered together in one of the girls bedroom to play it on her record player,I think we listened to it ALL afternoon...Gobsmacked at its production and beautiful songs.
Rest in Peace Tommy Vance and Ronnie James Dio.
Both of you influenced many generations of fans and musicians.

This live cd is very important and I feel very special to anyone who was a listener of the Friday Rock Show, fans from Norway, France and Holland always tuned into the show, its not just another live cd from DIO but a step back in time to our teenage years.
We already know the contents of the cd becoz we heard it on the Radio, 'Donington UK: Live 1983 & 1987' is like getting back a cherished family heirloom...I don't know if to frame it or put it with the rest of my DIO cds...its simply more than another live cd to me.

Okay have you got yours yet?
For some of you, this recording will be the first time you have heard it.
I want to know what you think?

I got mine today, the one I won. ONly got to hear the second disc. Sounds great. Extra EVil. The drums are very impressive. Noticed them, good guitar. And Ronnie, well , what can I say.

Still speaking to me from beyond.

Thanks to Dean at NIji for the contest and winnings.

Just to let folks know, I went to a Madison Best Buy yesterday and while they did not have the Donington cd set there, while I was in the store an employee helped me order it through the Best Buy online site for $9.99, $0.55 tax and free shipping, and it gets delivered right to the house, instead of the store. If some people are having a hard time finding it, this might be something to check out in their area. Especially if the same price is available. Smile

Nope, you're not the only one. I was introduced to Ronnie's music by The Black Sabbath album Heaven And Hell, and I think Neon Knights was the third song I heard from the album, and one of my favorites.[/quote]
