Heaven and Hell/Black Sabbath did it with Glenn and Jorn on vocals so why shouldn`t the current Dio members do a one-off type tribute gig. With possibly Jorn again on vox or someone near to Ronnie`s characteristics.
Who thinks it`s a good idea...personally the Heaven and Hell tribute gig didn`t quite live up to my expectations.
Why, simply because they could have used a visual backdop of Ronnie or something with the horns up on a visual level. And they should have played Holy Diver as a real fitting tribute to the Master, and it was quite short. Any thoughts guys? Maybe a poll could give a rough indication on a result! I'd like to see the Dio band go out with some one like Tim 'Ripper' Owens and do a full on Dio set.
In fact - I almost feel the Dio band has been slightly neglected. I would love to see the band tour a tribute.......but maybe these tribute shows later in the year will have them as the 'main' act?
Dunno, just think Simon, Scott, Rudy and Craig (only if they wanted to) should have the chance to play a farewell to Ronnie - but time is pushing on............ _________________ Stand up and Shout!!!!! |

I´d love to see such a tribute come about and Tim Ripper Owens would be my choice as a lead singer too.
The Dio songs are way too strong to be never played live again. So maybe the big tribute show in march will feature the Dio band.
To be honest, it should be them playing there. |

Yes,
I agree, that the Dio band has not had their fair share of attention, sympathy for losing their band leader. Just because Ronnie was taking a break from them and playing with Sabbath members doens't mean that those people and songs should not see more attention. Dio certainly made more albums and songs as a solo artist that as a member of Sabbath/H&H.
And Ripper would be a good choice to sing. HOpe they get word of our feelings.

I have no interest in seeing the support band behind Dio, not for free, certainly not paying.
No disrespect to them, RJD would'nt have them if they weren't top shelf musicians _________________ "when I heard the voice, said you got the choice, the hammer or the nail" |

Why not, we can all pay tribute with our own particular talent! _________________ Check out Al Diamond Phillips/Nevermet on the web

100% agreed!
In fact, I hope the tribute show in March will be something like the Freddie Mercury tribute concert back in 92!
For instance, it would be unforgetable, if we could see Tony and Craig sharing a song together on the stage!
For what I've heard, this is more on the Dio side of things, but sure hope Tony and Geez are comming too (Mr. Appice is an absolute requirement)!
It's so strange!
So many bands have covered Ronnie's songs in the last months.
Don't get me wrong, the gesture is very nice, but in some cases it really makes me wonder whether they were fans of Ronnie's during his life too (E.G. just listen to Manowar's cover of H & H: I feel no true fire in Eric Adams's voice and what's more they are most likely tuned down one step)!
Oh, and count me in on the Ripper thing! |

That would be great, but there are a few things I would like to add to the mix..
Ronnie's band has had a bit of a revolving door, so it would be great if every former member came to represent their respective eras.. I know there will be some who would not attend, but there are others that could fill those spaces..
It would also be awesome if the vocalist spot revolved.. There are many out there that Ronnie touched, influenced, and guided along the way. No one has had a cross word to say of the man (we are all aware of the exceptions to that statement), and it would be awesome to see all these people, even if just one show, put this together and get it on video..
Halford, Tate, Hughes, Jorn,Bonnet, Owens, Shortino, Oliva, the list is endless..
Someone needs to make it happen.. His music and his attitude have been an influence on more than we could possibly measure, and proceeds could help the Stand Up and Shout Fund.. _________________ http://ladyrock.informe.com/ |

That Manowar guy makes me nervous. I don't know him. Maybe his adulation I've seen of Ronnie is for real. But also, a man in his position has nothing to lose and everything to gain from the public show of admiration for Ronnie.
Perhaps he's just a nice guy. I don't know what rubs me wrong about him.
A tribute is a lovely idea in the sense of how I've heard Ronnie loved when others played his music. The sense in which it always leaves me personally blahhhh is that nobody on this earth can fill Ronnie's shoes. In this regard, I find concert tributes with his music depressing. Even the one w/Tony and Geezer in England left me feeling so incomplete, and those guys are monumental studs to me.
I'd rather write a song about Ronnie than perform one of his songs in his style. Or I even prefer Dio songs 'adapted' to another artist's own style. This way it can be original and have the full breadth of an original piece without having to live up to such a great singular performing tone and standard that the giant majority of humanity cannot.
Tributes are a fine and lovely thing to do, regardless of the musical skill deficit we're talking about. Great professionals cannot capture Ronnie's special whatever in music. Frankly, this is one of what makes Ronnie's passing such a hard pill to swallow. _________________ "Too many flames, with too much to burn, and life's only made of paper." - RJD |

Don't know how many of you know or like Nightwish but I would personally love to see Marco Hietala (both a bassist and a singer) taking part in the show!
He and his bands have covered and performed many Dio songs (well... technically mostly Rainbow and Sabbath) through the years. His voice does not always go perfectly well with Ronnie's (Whose beside Ronnie's does anywãy?), but I can feel he's honest and goes completely bananas when performing them.
Maybe it's because I love Nightwish as much as I do love Ronnie (only differently). (It's impossible to decide which I love more - Ronnie or Nightwish, because they represent whole different worlds = two uncomparable things.)
Of course I understand that we all have our personal wishlist of people, we would like to see performing what should be one of the bigest tributes to one of the greatest musicians and people of all time and that there are more known names in the music world, but what can I do...
I think that we could count on most of Ronnie's former bandmates (Jimmy, Doug, Rovan, perhaps even Tracy ... it goes on and on) and sure hope they get invited.
I was thinking whether I'd like to also see Ritchie there or not, however I'm unable to reach a final decision.
If he ment it completely honestly, I would of course!
And I believe it will be recorded (it simply must)!
Though I think that the first time I'd be able to watch it would be sometime in 2020! |
