Well this album will always be special for me, it came out when I had just discovered Dio, so I went to buy it, first shows (festivals) I seen with him where in promotion for that album
And during those I finally got a shirt too, and I do like the artwork of the albumcover
Between two hearts brings back memories of my boyfriend at this time....
Another way to spend a rainy Sunday
Waiting for a call that never comes
The mystery is how she makes her choices
But don't we always choose

This album was excellent.
Masterfully produced and written.
Rowen is awesome.
To me, easily one of Dio's best 3 from his solo career, along w/Holy Diver and Magica. |

I really like this album......its quite under-rated in my opinion. Ronnies vocal on this album is faultless (although I could say that about every album!!). Rowan was a class find and I think did a great job on the album.
I was the tour as well and really enjoyed it.....although Rowan looked terrified playing the Hammersmith Odeon with most of his family and friends in the front row staring at him!! LOL!
Fav track.......Why are they watching me......really powerful. _________________ Stand up and Shout!!!!! |

I love this album...it ranks as my fourth favorite. The lyrics are powerful, the guitars are beautiful, and Ronnie's vocals are impeccable, as is to be expected.
Favorite tracks are Born on the Sun (so inspiring) and My Eyes (still my 2nd favorite song of Ronnie's career, I think)...but I love them all! _________________ "You'll never make me be like you. I'm Master of the Moon!" |

Like 2 or 3 of Dio's other albums, I find this one to be very patchy, with some moments of greatness scattered along the way. "Born On The Sun" is a total classic, and is easily amongst Dio's greatest songs. "Why Are They Watching Me?" is another classic, and I also love "My Eyes". The main problem I have with this album, is it's inconsistency, and the mediocre attempts at injecting some doom into the sound. The 2nd issue is highlighted all the more, by the doom stuff sounding awesome on the follow up to this album, "Strange Highways".
While it is definitely one of Dio's weakest albums, it still produced 3 or 4 great songs that would not be out of place on his greatest albums. Especially "Born On The Sun" which is just magical. |

| This one I like a lot. I think Ronnie's vocals are tops on every single track. Of course he's always great but the singing here was spot=on. The bluesy edge was a nice touch to most of the tracks and Rowan's playing is lively. |

I find this album my least favoured Dio album, never liked it and still don`t, other than Why Are They Watching Me and My Eyes to me there is no real cohesion in the line up and recording.
The songs to my mind lack sparkle and for me it didn`t work with this line up, Teddy Cook was a great bass player though, great album title and cover. PowerKnight _________________ Joust With Thee

gosh, you are soooo honest...lol
I have to stand up for this album. I think it was a creative masterpiece from beginning to end.
Idk how much you heard it. Upon first listening it did not agree with me...it grew on me, all of it!
My Eyes is one of my favorite tracks. _________________ "Too many flames, with too much to burn, and life's only made of paper." - RJD |

I know many Dio fans love this album and that`s fine but I just can`t see the understanding behind it. And I think I`m in a minority when I say it, that`s the way I see it plain and simple! PowerKnight _________________ Joust With Thee

A real down and heavy album, every track is masterful. Odd that this lineup didn't continue, but of course who wouldn't want Jimmy or Jeff Pilson. Rowan is an absolute madman as seen on this album. I can't say I'm sad this lineup didn't continue, because imo the lineups after were much better overall. Plus we wouldn't have had Dehumanizer! _________________ So if a stranger sees you

great album. the songs themselves are very long, Dio just lets the band do their thing, which was awesome.
some catchy stuff here, "Wild One" and "Hey Angel". |

OK, can someone tell me if I'm completely crazy?
The song "Walk on Water" makes me think of (ack, I even hate to mention the name here, he was so obnoxiously ubiquitous for a while in my teen years) Vanilla Ice's crash-and-burn after his phoniness was made incontestable.
This song came out at about the same time, and lines like "they say there's ice inside his veins" and "silver spoons and golden chains" just seem to fit. Along with the general theme of being about someone who "thought that they could fly" into stardom without anything genuine or real (talent, hard work, sincerity) to back up, only to be "shot down from the sky".
So, is there any chance that was at least a partial inspiration? Or am I falling into my habit of connecting things together that have no business being connected? |
