Seriously though you guys know of any good stores that sell cds besides getting them off the internet? I've found one nearby but it's still 30 min. away so I can't get there all the time. _________________ So if a stranger sees you

If I did, I'd probably buy a lot more CD's than I do! (That's the other reason I buy music digitally-- so I can have it now rather than next week).
(We actually do have a member of the highly endangered species "used record/CD store" fairly close by. I check in occasionally, but I rarely find much.) |

I buy cds. There's something so cool to me about an 'album.'
I have BARELY EVER paid to download a song.
I downloaded Dio for free recently on Amazon.
I don't fit the statistics, but i'm a 36 year old and I still buy cds. I like having the perfect copy on my shelf that I can digitize myself.
I am part old fashioned. I just like knowing that I own the cd. I am into having a cd collection I guess you could say.
I just started introducing my 10 month old daughter to the Beatles....ON CD!!!!
Gotta love the beatles. _________________ "Too many flames, with too much to burn, and life's only made of paper." - RJD |

No matter which way you look at it I really don`t think no one had any idea how the internet would have changed the shape of music forever. And it`s not going stop here either, how far is it going to go with other ideas we might not have even thought of?
People state it gives you more choice, at the moment maybe but for those like myself who enjoy`s nothing more than a musical product and browsing in record/CD stores, remember them!!!
Then time is now running short from this theme and there is going to be a time where maybe there will be no musical product to buy.
Call that freedom...I don`t, Ronnie once said on his decorations and what have you in his home.
Pointing out furniture crafted when he said it comes from a time when people cared about what they were making. Today it`s become very careless and very selfish. PowerKnight _________________ Joust With Thee

| Sadly, it's become more about business and less about art. Get it out quick and make money quick. |

In the pre-net world, if you lived in a without a decent music scene, or decent radio stations, and didn't know anyone who liked music you liked, it was impossible to discover music. This was an intractable problem for me-- a source of constant frustration in high-school and college, until I finally wore myself out and gave up about the time I graduated college. (leading to a not very happy period of my life).
And then Pandora.com came along, and last.fm, and Rhapsody, and iTunes-- and finally, it was possible to discover music that wasn't on the top40 or MTV! An entirely new world opened up for me!
In the days of physical media, I was a beggar at the feast, scavenging for crumbs and not fining much. In the age of digital media, suddenly the world of music has opened for me, "like an open door, that you passed before, but you never had the key...".
People who dis the digital formats: I'm sure the "good old days" were great for those of you with a seat at the feast, but for the rest of us, we're grateful to finally have a way to get inside.

Rumours flying around HMV could be in trouble in the UK
Credit insurers have added to the woes of HMV, the struggling entertainment and book retailer, by scaling back cover for some of its suppliers. Two music and entertainment companies have said they can no longer get credit insurance to supply products to the retailer, which issued a profits warning this month after dreadful Christmas trading.
It emerged yesterday that the UK arm of a major manufacturer and distributor of CDs and DVDs has claimed that credit insurers have "significantly" reduced its insured credit limit on all HMV entities.
In an email, the supplier's head of credit and collections said that "based on the current HMV balances, the limit is not sufficient to support any sales on an insured basis moving forward".
On 5 January, HMV said its full-year pre-tax profits would be at the lower end of City guidance of between £46m and £60m. An HMV spokesman said credit insurance limits normally reduce after the peak Christmas period. Under normal circumstances, this can reflect reduced stock levels.
The scaling back of credit insurance can put pressure on a company's cash flow, as suppliers often demand a change in terms to continue delivering goods, such as payment upfront. Credit insurers seek to protect suppliers against the risk of non-payment, such as in the event of a company ceasing trading.
Go back just 6 years and HMV was pretty good for prices and Metal but then started adding a ''premium'' like price to Metal cds, while the charts cds were cut to nearly half price, the non chart stuff and Metal cds, were almost double the price, which just drove me and others to Amazon to buy our Metal, they only have themselves to blame. |

i must say folks i do miss the days of going to the shops & buying some good old vinyl , you did seem to get a lot more for your money back then in the early 80s , a piece of vinyl would only cost £3.99p or £4.99p back then , also loved the album covers of Dio,s - Holy Diver & Iron Maiden,s - Number of the Beast .
as for cds (i think) shops like Hmv stores are way over the price limit for some cds , i did see the latest Scorpions album - Sting In the Tail : going for £16.00p at Hmv , i manage to get it for only £7.99p from Amazon UK .
i dont like to see shops closing down , but is it any wonder when you got over the price limits sometimes folks , the sites on the internet are a lot cheaper nowdays . _________________ PEsneesby |

I miss the old "mom and pop" stores. I don't care for the chain store in the mall.
There is a shop run by a couple of old hippies that's still hanging in there. I go for the conversation mostly. It's nice to talk to somebody in a shop who knows music. |
