In light of Wendy's concern of bands making money off of Ronnie's name and tragedy - I thought Jorn Lande's perfomance and CD sales would help the Cancer fund. But the other things I have read about - Manowar doing a tribute is the only one I can think of now, were strictly to salute the man's music, not help the cancer fund.
Which, specifically, releases are to help raise money for Cancer fund? Which upcoming releases are just to honor Ronnie's musical legacy and make money for the band?
I might be misled if it isn't clear. But Ronnie's music is always tempting to me.

| I would also like to know which tributes are approved by Wendy and which ones are not. Is the Jorn tribute cd approved? my husband bought this for me soon after Ronnie passed away. It arrived yesterday but I have mixed feelings about listening to it |

All I can find is that Jorn is suggesting people make contributions to the World Cancer Research Fund or the Stand up and Shout fund - at no time has he said any proceeds from the album will be donated.
However, it also isnt billed as a Tribute Album and was completed before Ronnie passed away, I suspect its an ill timed release.
Not going to bash Jorn for it, I think his album is very 'nice' but I think it is clear that no profit from the album is going to the fund, I tried to contact Jorn direct but cannot get an email through to him. _________________ Stand up and Shout!!!!! |

Regardless of his intent for the where the money goes, he still had to license the Dio Songs he covers on the album. I'm not sure how European copyrights work, but in the USA the royalties will pay 9.5 cents per song per copy. So if it sells well, money will still be paid to Ronnie's estate. _________________ Check out Al Diamond Phillips/Nevermet on the web

| I guess Jorn must be doing someting ok as he was one of the mentioned singers for Heaven and Hell at the forthcoming High Voltage festival. Would be a bit strange to be causing friction but then be asked to play by Tony and Geezer in honour of Ronnie? |

I thought that Jorn Lande's Dio album was giving at least some proceeds to the Cancer cause in Dio's charity. I know Manowar isn't. I thought that was why Wendy was so angry at Manowar, and not at Jorn Lande. And Jorn is singing with Heaven and Hell for their show. That concert is raising funds for Dio's Charity, isn't it?
I thought I had this figured out, now I am not so sure.

Holymagica,
How you doing this week? Good I hope.
Thank you for clearing that up. Got mixed up with the CD and the concert for Dio.

As far as Jorn's tribute album goes, this was released before Ronnie's death...so nobody can claim that he is trying to cash in on Ronnie's death.
And as alitivity states, the estate will be paid royalties per song per copy... and with an album with almost only Dio-related songs, a big part of the income of this album will go to Ronnie's estate, and then they'll have to decide if they will let this go to the cancer fund..
But , if no one buys the album, off course the income will be low, so the more of us buy the album, the more will the income to the estate be...
And as Jorn is a true fan of Dio, and the other artists he has covered through his career, I'm sure it would never be in his thoughts to capitilize on something like Ronnie's death.. as olivious says, it was just an ill timed release, but then how could he know Ronnie would pass away shortly after he released his tribute album
And while I am at it, I must say this, there are very few people around who is able to do Ronnie's songs as good as Jorn does, off course no one does them better than Ronnie, but very few is better than Jorn in singing this songs as closely similar to how Ronnie did them.
But then again, you can do good and great covers of Ronnies songs without trying to sound like Ronnie, there are lots of great and excellent covers out there where the artists bring their own thing to the cover version and make it a great version, without trying to emulate Ronnie.
And as earlier noted, if the Dio camp felt that Jorn was trying to exploit Ronnies music, they would never let him play at the memorial, even less conisdering bring him as a backup for Ronnie at the planned 2010 Heaven And Hell tour. |
