Surprised there's no comments on this one yet, given the three "new" songs that appear on it. All of them good, but "Shadow of the Wind" has become one of my favorite songs.
(Weird experience a couple of weeks ago where I fell asleep listening to my iPod. During a dream, this song gradually "faded in" so that I could hear it within the dream-- woke up just before it finished. VERY strange song to hear as a "soundtrack" to a dream.) |

I bought this album in preparation for the first big concert I attended--the Metal Masters Tour in Dallas, TX...August 22, 2008.
I had already by that time become a huge fan of Ronnie's work with DIO, but I had not listened to any of his Sabbath-era stuff. So, I bought this album to listen to before I saw H&H live in concert.
I love this stuff. I love Tony Iommi's playing, I love Ronnie's vocals, and I love how this lineup made almost incomparable magic together. And how awesome it was to hear many of these songs performed live!
Of the tracks recorded specifically for this album, my favorite is Ear in the Wall. But the lyrics in all are excellent, as is the music. Overall, I think this was an excellent compilation of the Dio-era songs. I may have included The Sign of the Southern Cross, perhaps instead of Lonely is the Word, but certainly I have no complaints about this album. _________________ "You'll never make me be like you. I was really pleased when this came out and very excited with the 3 new tracks. Ear in the Wall is a personal favourite.
I loved the production on the 3 new tracks and it really set up TDYK brilliantly.
Obviously all the other tracks are standards but its a great collection to show the evolution of Black Sabbath into Heaven and Hell!
I played this to death when I got my copy. _________________ Stand up and Shout!!!!! |

I have been debating buying this, especially for the three new tracks.
I don't care so much for special mix cds if I already have the album.
How is the artwork? I really dig photography and stuff that isn't normally out there.
I really want to buy this for those 3 new tracks. |

DioInfinitum -- I'll admit I "cheated" and just bought the three new songs on iTunes. The CD is on my "wishlist" of things I'd like to pick up, but so are a lot of other things, and I'm trying to watch my budget.
Funny that most other people name "Ear in the Wall" as their favorite of the three-- because my first few listens, that was my favorite as well. And it's still a great song. But then "Shadow of the Wind" started growing on me & slipping beneath my skin.
("The Devil Cried" is a good song, too-- it's just up against rough competition.) |

I just wanted to come back and say this. |

I bought it when it first came out. I love all the songs, but found myself wishing it had so many more (isn't that the case with most greatest hits packages) I would recommend it to anyone, especially a newer fan that may not be aware of Dio's time with BS. Every song is strong on the CD _________________ Check out Al Diamond Phillips/Nevermet on the web

| Obviously for most long time Sabbath fans, the only real things of any interest here, were the 3 brand new tracks recorded especially for it. 'Shadow Of The Wind' is my least fave of the 3, but it's still a decent song. 'Ear In The Wall' is a great blast of classic metal, while 'The Devil Cried' is the undoubted highlight for me. Awesome song, and pure classic Sabbath. All 3 of these songs would have been well deserving of a place on 'The Devil You Know'. This was obviously the kickstart of the realisation that this classic incarnation of Sabbath still had some life in them yet! |

| Gosh, I think perhaps Shadow of the Wind is my fav of these three. It is just insanely heavy and dark. The tempo just heavily pulls you through the crazy metal sludge. A great track. |

I agree with you Shadow of the Wind is definitely my favorite of the three new songs. It's a sure classic already. _________________ So if a stranger sees you

For me it's The Devil Cried. Having somebody tell you that they love you is pretty profound....and I've always held the belief that The Devil is not responsible for all of the evil in the world. People are. He just gets the blame. |

Yeah, I love that song, just not the lyrics. The idea that you can go to heaven by making the devil cry is just ludacris. _________________ So if a stranger sees you

Ear In The Wall for me out of the three tracks, Shadow isn`t bad but the slow pace thing isn`t for me. PowerKnight _________________ Joust With Thee
