I wrote this in another thread under the name the Art of Dio

I am not looking for which song is the best,
There is no winners or losers songs...
I just want to know...what Master of the Moon,
Means to you.....which songs you like the most,
And if like me...you have the running order different from the cd,
Which I have on my mp3 player.
Running order for me listening to this cd is...
Living The Lie
The Eyes
In Dreams
Death By Love
The Man Who Would Be King
The End Of The World
Master Of The Moon
Shivers
I Am
One More For The Road

I just think the cd flows better with this running order,
Anyway this is what I think of some of the songs...if I don't mention some of the songs its simply becoz...I don't want this to be review.
I like the tempo of ''Living in the Lie'',the way Simon comes in with the drums at the start, followed by Craig's guitar riff,he makes it sound easy, but thats one of the reasons I rated him so highly becoz he can do that, the solo is just perfect...lots of substance and perfect for the song,Now the Master himself...vocals sound the same from when the first Dio cd was released...maybe even better...lyrics have that Dio touch to them, there is certain words,I always look forward to in his lyrics,
Always like hearing Dio sing certain words....and he never lets me down...its just one of the things I love about Dio.
The Eyes is one of those songs that should sit next to all other classics performed by Dio,the rhythmic guitar riff is fascinating, grabs you right away.
I will return to this later ............But for the time being....I want to know some of your thoughts about ''Master of the Moon''.
Again this is not about the other cds....This is just about Master of the Moon,When I am writing this...I am thinking this is the only Dio cd there is.So my intense enthusiasm comes from this.

More of my thoughts on Master of the Moon.
When my friends getting talking about this cd,sometimes over a few beers in our local pub,
one thing is that is always repeated in the conversation.
There is lots of killer riffs and solos,
Craig always seems to create a classic guitar sound,he never sounds flash,
Lots of care and attention on the fret board,''Death by Love'',
is one of those songs that Craig does this effortlessly on,Ronnie sings this song with lyrics thoughtfully,
Its a great composition, melodically and forever Dio.
I really love the way the whole band comes together in this cd.

Doom Metal fans adore this cd and it will always be one of my favourites.

Master of the Moon is simply magical. I can't think of a better word to describe it. I remember listening to it in my car the day I purchased it about two years ago. I was very excited, because this was a new DIO album (new to me...I was a latecomer to the Dio Family), and nothing Ronnie had done had ever been a disappointment to me.

From the start, even without knowing the lyrics, I was struck (yet again) by Ronnie's vocals--deeper, darker, richer, and more magical than I had ever heard before. I looked forward to learning all the lyrics, because I was sure there would be many lessons to be learned from them. The ending of Master of the Moon gave me chills the first time I listened, and it has ever since. I love the way Ronnie simply states a fact (one I believe describes him well, though I never knew him personally): "You'll never make me be like you; I'm Master of the Moon!" And then just a descending progression of chords to end the song. It is extremely powerful musically, vocally, and lyrically.

As I learned the lyrics, I began to feel this album had been written specifically for me. One More for the Road, Master of the Moon, The Eyes, and Living the Lie were easily related to my own life at the time--especially this verse in Living the Lie: "When a million miles from nowhere is still too close to home; you're with a hundred thousand people, and you still feel all alone. She was never in the circle, or the round would be a square, and the more she seemed to want it, all the less they seemed to care." This album became quite a powerful inspiration to me.

And as far as the music itself, I think it's pretty hard to beat the power in this album. It's dark...definitely metal...but also inspiring and hopeful somehow. It always makes me picture myself sitting on the moon, looking out into the great beyond that is space...somehow feeling isolated and empowered at the same time. Only DIO could do this! I especially love the guitar ending for Master of the Moon, and the riff in Shivers.

So, this album means a lot to me because of what it says and how it sounds, but also because it has helped me in times of sadness. I remember one day I did something quite out of the ordinary for me...I went to a movie with a group of guys I had met over Facebook. They knew I was a DIO fan, but they made fun of my Sacred Heart t-shirt nonetheless. In fact, that was all they said to me the entire night: "You just HAD to wear a shirt like that, didn't you?" I said something like, "Yes, I did, considering DIO shirts make up half my wardrobe."

I should have left then, but I didn't. Anyway, they ignored me the whole time, then ignored me after the movie. When I started to walk toward my car, they invited me to dinner but then popped off with some other snide comment. So I said I would meet them at the restaurant. They went to their car; I went to mine...and I promptly turned on the CD player and blasted Master of the Moon as loud as I could handle. I was crying because these strangers had been so rude to me, and all I wanted was to hear Ronnie's voice and that magical music from my all-time favorite band. I drove straight home and somehow I felt better, knowing I could hold this special music close to my heart always, and that those guys were idiots.

So, Master of the Moon is special to me. I love this album, I love all the songs (especially the title track), and I wouldn't change a thing about it. I once considered getting the album art tattooed on my upper arm, but I'm glad I opted not to. I'll live happily with the music in my heart!

You say it so much better than me, I am listening to cd as I post this. This is a very special cd.For me to have Craig Goldy back playing added to the excitement, he just plays it so cool on the cd,for me one the best cds with Craig Goldy playing. I felt like that teenager again like when I first heard to Holy Diver, thats why I this is a big favourite and your right, the music and Ronnie James Dio singing are all things we love about the band DIO, the cd should have a sticker on it...100% reassuring DIO at there best.

"Master Of The Moon" is definitely in my top 3 Dio albums. And it is a fitting swansong for the Dio band, as sadly, it was the last studio album made by the great man and his ultra talented band mates. What I really love about this album, is it manages to sound both modern and classic at the same time. Sort of like a ''Holy Diver'' for the new millennium. "One More For The Road" is a vicious and driving opener, almost like the evil twin of "Stand Up And Shout". The title track is absolute classic, and could have been written in the 80's. Ronnie's vocals are divine, and the melodies are haunting and magical. "Shivers" is filled with crushing infectious hooks, and a little menace thrown in for good measure! "The Man Who Would Be King" is another one that could have been written in the 80's. Its not a long song, but it has a very epic feel to it, aided in no small part by the amazing keyboards. "I Am" is a total anthem, and has a very triumphant sound to it, a bit like "I" from "Dehumanizer". "Death By Love" is just an awesome, catchy, rocking classic. Again, Ronnie's voice is just amazing here! <3

When I have discussed this album with others, nobody else seems to hold it in as high regard as I do. Most seem to find it average compared to his best albums. But for me, it is right up there with "Holy Diver" and "The Last In Line" as a stone cold classic. It's a very old school album, but still sounds up to date, and it is very hard to pull that off. Yep, I adore this album a lot, it is IMO one of Ronnie's all time best albums with his Dio band.

Wow! This post truly demonstrates the power of passionate music, does it not? I admit I haven't listened to this album as much as the other Dio discs I own, but I like the intensity. It's likely Dio's darkest album of all, yet there is a hopeful quality to it, as fiddle queen said. The moon is a beacon of light no matter how black it is in space...and this disc never lets us forget that.

my favourite album with Craig as guitarist, much better that Dream evil and as good or even better than magica imo

that's a shame that Craig did play only few solos on this cd

Love this album, glad that the band's last (studio) album was so strong.

To me, it's a great mix of all the elements the band covered over the years, and Ronnie's vocal melodies are superb.

I have been holding out on buying this album.

There are a couple tracks that have caught my ear, especially 'The Eyes.'

I totally almost bought it the other day.

Is it worth it?

Master of the Moon and Killing the Dragon are the lone Dio solo albums I am not familiar with.

I have sampled the tracks, but didn't listen long enough for them to connect on a deeper level. I usually find that the more I listen, the more it creeps into something I like. I didn't like Lock Up The Wolves at first and it grew to be one of my favorite albums of all time.

Hey DioInfinitum, it's definitely worth getting!

It may take a couple of listens before it sinks in, but I'd say it's a more immediate album than "Magica" in my opinion - don't get me wrong, I love "Magica", but it took me a few listens to get into all the songs.

Killing the Dragon is also excellent!

DioInfinitum
You must buy it...its different class.
Checkout these sound bites from some reviews.

Quote:
Although the focus is on the traditional sounding doom anthems, Master of the Moon opens with a straight-up blazer, 'One More for the Road', which hearkens to 'Stand Up and Shout', 'Night People' and such. Absolutely pumping, with Dio immediately sounding more revitalized and full-throttle than he has in years. 'Living the Lie' and 'Death by Love' also have a catchy, rock'n'roll bounce that breaks up the trudging pace of the rest of the album somewhat.
The lyrics are the usual blend of cynicism and sentimentalism that Dio colours his visions of society with: "Don't get emotional, but we're out of time" is among my favourite lines from the man's discography, and 'The Eyes', with its creepy effects, caught my attention simply for continuing Dio's ongoing lyrical fascination with people's eyes onto the album's most cohesive and successfully gloomy piece of doom metal.

Quote:
It's just a great Dio album, second only to Magica out of the band's post-Dehumanizer output. If it does, heaven forbid, turn out to be the last solo album from Dio, it is by all means a respectable one, delivering on pretty much every level for the singer's devotees as it features a Ronnie vocal performance besting all but The Devil You Know in the 21st century.

Quote:
Dio is like a machine going on for eternity, ever releasing records, ever singing like a god with built-in speakers and double amps. Master of the Moon is his best album for a long, long time and while it's not better than the debut and just questionably better than Last in Line, it's the release that's hardest to grow tired of. We miss the usual highlight (which has become synonymous with the title track), but then there have never been so few and so small fluctuations in quality between the songs before.
The sound feels like Strange Highways revisited, compared to Killing the Dragon the music is much slower, darker and heavier. Yet it doesn’t lose the energetic, pumping beat to back it up. And that’s what Master of the Moon is – a splendid, crushing beat back there, as well as guitars and bass that have been made more audible than ever before. It’s rasping and hard, imagine the dark, pounding bass rhythms with gleaming power chords.

Quote:
The best thing about this album is Dio’s singing. The man hasn’t lost it. Dio’s voice is just like Dio on Holy Diver. So if you like Dio’s style of singing then you will like this. The best way to describe this album is like tacking Dio’s Black Sabbath work, mixing it with Killing the Dragon. So If you like the slow, evil, doom metal style of Dio, or you just like Killing the Dragon, then you will enjoy this new piece of heavy metal.

Words cannot properly express how TOTALLY WORTH BUYING this album is.

Seriously, when I even think of the music on this album, my heart beats faster. I know it is not really comparable to Holy Diver because it is of a different sound and style, but it is absolutely remarkable.

My personal opinion is that Master of the Moon beats the two DIO albums that directly preceded it. To my ear, an album just can't be better.
