Never had problems with the sound either, I just wish I had seen that tour...
Seen an old shirt at ebay, but since I consider all these sales now "making profit on Ronnies passing", I clicked on.... If Niji ever puts one in the shop, I will be sure to get it... yes I still love that album-cover, its a typical 80's metal cover , I dig those |
Well, I saw the band live in august 1987, after the release of "Dream Evil".
I am italian, and that was the first Dio's gig here in Italy: unforgettable show!
From "Dream Evil" Ronnie played "Night Peple", "Dream Evil", "Sunset Superman", "All The Fools Sailed Away" and "Naked In The Rain". |
I envy you for that... bet it was a great show too

| but my main complaint is Goldy's guitar playing. Seems messy to me on this album I don't think his style gelled on a Dio disc until Magica--a lot cleaner playing. |
I think it's the production of Dream Evil that's the problem. Unlike the clean, sharp production of earlier albums, this one sounds muddled. Goldy is my nr.1 Dio-guitarist and I love the songs on this album. But, like you, I hate the sound. The guitar sounds messy, the bass at times completely lost.
Too bad, because some of the songs on this album are among Dio's best ever. |
You may be right; production could be what ruins it for me. I don't dislike Goldy. In fact, I remember hearing Magica for the first time and thinking Craig's guitar work sounded so much better, cleaner, and tighter than I remember on Dream Evil. . Maybe I'll go listen to it again, and make a special effort to be open...but to each his or her own. |

Hello there, I got to disagree with you saying Craig Goldy's playing is messy, I love the the riffs and solos, they are strong and impossible to forget.
I think Craig Goldy out classes 'Lady' Vivian on so many different levels here on this record.
When I heard this cd for the first time...my first words were "Vivian who?"
Anyway your are allowed your opinion but the word 'messy' so harsh. |
Hi, Holymagica (great handle, btw),
No dissing Mr. Goldy--I like him as a guitarist and feel his playing fits Dio better than Tracy G's did. However, this album is one which feels off to me, as in not everything clicked. It could well be production. I do think Craig's playing simply sounded better on his last two (Magica and MOTM). And, IF he did improve with age, not a bad thing, is it? |

I love this album and was disappointed that Craig didn't get to do more albums with the band in that era.
I have great memories of hearing tracks from the album on the only national rock show that the UK had in the 80s, Tommy Vance's "Friday Rock Show" - he played a couple of tracks over the course of a few weeks, when it came out, including "I Could Have Been A Dreamer", "Night People" and "All The Fools...".
I got into the band during the "Sacred Heart" period, so I was eagerly awaiting this album to see how they would adapt to Viv's departure. I thought Craig was a great replacement and a great player and songwriter. _________________ "Whenever you dream you're holding the key, it opens the door to let you be free" - RJD 1985 |

This is my fourth all time Dio album, very interesting album and quite Purplesque at times. Craig had a knack of coming up with great ideas with Ronnie and among many stuff like Faces In The Window is an underrated Dio classic.
Love this album, some very neat keyboard work from Claude as well, PowerKnight _________________ Joust With Thee

i always have loved this album & never forget when i see Dio for the 2nd time on the Dream Evil Tour Dec 5th at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1987 , me & my friends was only about 3 or 4 rows back in frount of the stage , when Ronnie went into neon knights , he could tell that me & my friends was really into it & enjoying ourselfs & gave me the thumbs up with the Devil Horn sign , Dream Evil will always hold a great memory for me back in 1987 folks , & i also love the track called Naked In The Rain / which i thought should have been a single at the time . _________________ PEsneesby |

Great 80's anthem album, the cover is just absolutely awesome! Definitely the best Dio cover! _________________ So if a stranger sees you
