Hi.

I recently received the Dio Sacred Heart DVD and the Live in Japan 85 DVD. Two songs that I almost forgot about immediately brought back so many memories from the 80s. The songs were Sacred Heart and Rock n' Roll Children. Wow, I couldn't believe how great those songs were. I guess to understand where I'm coming from I should give a little history.

I really loved Black Sabbath with Dio. I never liked Holy Diver or Last in Line much when I was a kid in the 80s. Then again, I was hooked on Ozzy and Maiden back then. Once Dream Evil came out and I saw the music videos for I Could Have Been A Dreamer and All the Fools Sailed Away I was mesmerized. I bought the CD and loved it. At that point Dio (solo) was in my list of top metal acts like Maiden, Early 80s Ozzy, etc... Those bands were all I was listening too. For some reason I lost touch with some of my favorite bands in the 80s. Once Oz came out with No Rest, I dropped him like a bad habbit. Dio, I don't understand what happened. I was in college and there was still plenty of metal to listen too. It wasn't until 2000 when a co-worker at my new job turned out to be a Van Halen / David Lee Roth fan. We quickly became friends and then in the late fall or early winter of 2000, Dio was playing at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC. Danny (my co-worker), my friend Chris, my girlfriend Carol & I went to the show. I cannot explain how amazing it was. I went out that week and bought all the DIO albums on CD. I was missing almost all of his stuff from the 90s. Anyhow, since 2000 Dio has remained one of the most played bands in my play lists. I have seen Dio 4 times since 2000. I was at the Evil or Divine show and I'm in quite a few crowd shots including a close up at the end of Heave & Hell. I'm the big head Smile right next to the guy holding up the skeleton mask. After that I saw Dio live at Jones Beach opening for Iron Maiden. I think that was the best show of them all (the ones I saw that is). Finally, I saw Heaven & Hell in 2007 I think at the PNC Arts Center. Again, from 2000 until today I listen to Dio and any of his work like crazy. I even own his Elf CDs and really love that music as well. I kind of wished for an Elf reunion. Anyway, let me stop rambling and get to the point.

After watching those two 80s DVD concerts I said "I wish Dio would have played Sacred Heart and Rock n Roll Children more recently then back in the 80s. I wonder how great they would have sounded today." It was then when on eBay searching for DVD concerts of Rainbow and Dio that I saw what turned out to be a bootleg DVD for sale. I passed on buying it because I only buy pro shot / commercially released shows, but what made me gasp was the setlist. Within the setlist were two songs, the very two I was just wondering how they would have sounded today. Grant it was 2008, thats alot closer than 1986 is to 2010. I did find some youtube clips of the songs from 2008 and I CAN NOT believe how AMAZING they sounded. It sounded just like back in the 80s. So, I look around like crazy and there doesn't seem to be any official live material from the 2008 tour. That leads me to the question. Does anyone know of a pro shot video concert or sound board recording of any shows from that tour? Also, did Dio tour here in the USA? I don't remember seeing any mention of Dio in NY in 2008. Danny & I would have been there for sure.

Well, sorry for rambling on. I hope someone might have good news.

Thanks,
John

after the show in Oslo in 2008, we talked to Ronnie's sound guy.

he said they were going to film one of the shows in Spain.
(he also said they were originally going to film one in sweden, but the venue was too small to do a decent dvd)

can anyone confirm whether Spain was filmed or not?

the band sounded great - and an official document from what turned out to be the final Dio tour would be superb

I got mine on eBay, but it turns out I had it already for years. I bought it and watched it once then my friend borrowed it and I forgot about it. I thought I borrowed it from him. LOL I bought my original years ago in Best Buy. So now I and my friend who is also a big DIO fan have an official DVD of Sacred Heart.

you can order it from amazon http://www.amazon.com/Dio-Sacred-Heart-Ronnie-James/dp/B00016MSUI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1277084986&sr=8-1

15$ with amazon you're sure it s official dvd not dvd-r, or other cheap copies.

You can buy the Sacred Heart DVD officially from such places as Play.com/Amazon etc. It is only Region 1.

However the live in Japan is not currently an official release - but I understand that Niji will soon be releasing it. When it is released I will buy it so the money goes to the right place.
