More than 1,200 fans attended the event, which featured performances by Geoff Tate (QUEENSRŸCHE), Glenn Hughes (BLACK SABBATH, DEEP PURPLE), Paul Shortino (QUIET RIOT, ROUGH CUTT), Joey Belladonna (ANTHRAX), John Payne (ASIA), Oni Logan (LYNCH MOB), Claude Schnell (DIO) and Scott Warren (HEAVEN & HELL, DIO), along with personal tributes from Ronnie's family members, bandmates and business associates. According to the Associated Press, hundreds more gathered in the scorching heat outside the auditorium to watch monitors of the proceedings.
"He touched all of us with his music and his message and his magic," said David "Rock" Feinstein, Dio's cousin and ELF bandmate. "I know that Ronnie truly loved all of you. He had a great appreciation for your loyalty. I'm talking about all you out there, all the fans."
According to the Associated Press, Dio's son, Dan Padavona, cautioned the memorial crowd to be screened regularly by a doctor and take care of themselves, something he said his father did not do.
"I beg you not to make the same mistake my dad made," said Padavona. "For dad, the show always had to go on. He ignored the warning signs for years, and all along the cancer was growing and mutating from something that was probably easily defeatable into a monster which even Dio couldn't slay."
"He had that magic," remembered Willie Fyfe, Dio's longtime personal assistant. "He always called it magic. Once he had a crowd in his hands, that's where they stayed until it was time to go, then he'd give them back, and walk off and do his thing. Bless him. He's still doing that now, and the guy is in a coffin."
It has now been confirmed that two major concerts are being planned to celebrate the life of the late Ronnie James Dio. The gigs — dubbed Ronnie James Dio "Stand Up And Shout" Memorial Concerts — will take place in London and Los Angeles in the fall. There are also plans to hold annual events in the years to follow "so that Ronnie is never forgotten" and to raise money for cancer awareness and support, according to artist manager Adam Parsons.

Wow....I'm blown away by all of that!

I'll watch some of the clips later. I don't think I'm ready to yet!

Ronnie's son is adorable...but then, we all know where he got it!

I see Wendy is wearing Ronnie's cross...I'm sure she hasn't taken it off.

Ooh, there were some moving moments watching these clips...
I am sure Ronnie is pleased and proud where ever he rests at the moment.
Thank you for the post.

I really wish I could of been there but time and money keeps me from doing things I want to do..And from NJ its not a short ride...I was so close to buying a memorial shirt on eBay for a ridiculous amount of money until I seen the post on the Dio website about the shirt are going to be sold online to the public..Im so happy about that...Like I said,I wish I could of been there and got one myself...But at least I know my money will go to Dios cancer fund...I know its gotta be rough for Wendy and Dios son because Im still hurting from him being gone..never new him personally but it feels like I did..R.I.P. Dio and God help his family and friends get through this rough time... \m/

I was thinking about getting one of those shirts as well, but then I thought that I should not support people making money from Ronnie now, and I am glad to read that they will sell them offically later on.

I was at the memorial. You can view my pictures here:

I also made a tribute video using some of the pictures and you can see that here:

It was incredibly moving being there and I didn't stop crying for 4 hours. I am so glad I went.

Thank you all for posting your feelings, the photos and video footage. Thanks to you I could really feel the atmosphere of the event.

I couldn't be at the Memorial Service, and neither could thousands of Ronnie's fans from Russia. So we held our own celebrations of Ronnie's Life and Music on that day. Thousands of people all over Russia, Ukraine and Belarus got together in their cities to pay their respects to Ronnie, listened to Ronnie's music, watched videos and sang along, brought Ronnie's portraits, candles and flowers... In St.Petersburg someone ever brought a car door that Ronnie signed back in 2004. Surprised The signature says: "Dima, you rock. Ronnie James Dio". We all shared our experience of being at Ronnie's shows and meeting him in person, we laughed and cried together, and it felt that we are united.

It was a very fitting and beautiful service. I was so happy that I could attend. I wrote a more in depth report compared to others out there. http://www.metalpsalter.com/blog_05_30_10_1.html

I am still in shock that he is gone. He left an incredible legacy of music and we have been so fortunately blessed to have him among us for so long.

Tomorrow is the 2nd anniversary of Ronnie's passing. I truly miss him! I will be visiting his resting place first thing in the morning to pay my respects! I owe him so much! Afterward I will be going to my first recording session to record my tribute to him. It's be a long 2 years, and my love for his music has spanned over 30 years, and will continue for years to come! "FALLOW THE TEARS"
Thank you Ronnie!
