Hello Dio Family,
It is 11pm for us, and my wife and I just got home from the Memorial service a while ago...it is late, so I'm afraid this won't be very detailed. I will update it tomorrow...
The service itself was absolutely wonderful, lasting almost 4 hours. Ronnie was there, as was Wendy, Ronnies son Dan, and many of Ronnies close friends.
Many musicians performed acoustic sets of various Elf, Rainbow, Sabbath, and Dio songs. All of which were performed beautifully.
There were many tears, and many laughs as friends and family spoke of Ronnie and his life.
To me personaly, the highlights were seeing Ronnie get the recognition, and honor he deserves....
Firstly, A City Councilman sent word to the service, that from this day on....May 30th will be known as Ronnie James Dio day in the city of Los angeles.
And secondly....Later this year, there will be 2 Ronnie James Dio Memorial Concerts in Los Angeles and London....also.....they will be YEARLY events, not just one time events!
I have no Idea how many people turned out for the service, but....The inside was packed, as well as all around the outside of the building where fans were able to view the service on 2 large screens.
At the conclusion of the service....EVERYONE inside, and outside the building were allowed to walk directly to Ronnies casket and pay their personal respects.
In addition to the musical performances, A large video screen showed all the segments of Ronnies life and career, Beginning with a picture of an infant Ronnie, all the way up to present day. His musical career was represented starting in the 50's with Ronnie and the Redcaps, and concluded with Heaven and Hell.
I, and many others, cried...laughed.....and bonded.
I want to thank Wendy Dio so much, for providing and allowing us to share in this day. She was only able to stand and speak long enough to tell us thank you for coming...and we understand why....But in my opinion....it is US that owes YOU all the thanks Wendy. We love you, and we are here for you.
I will try to add more details tomorrow....it has been a very long, emotional day....I just wanted to share a little bit before bed.....
R.I.P Ronnie.....We love you....Thank you for being a part of our lives.... _________________ Give me a choice between pleasure and pain.........I choose PAIN!!! |

Thank you so much for posting quickly on the memorial inspite that you must be so tired.
I kept following upcoming updated videos, and reports today.
It's good to hear that the memorial was so beautiful.
Ronnie has been so beautiful all through his life.
Looking forward to your next update.
Thank you again. _________________ ☆Tell me lies as long as it's not about love☆ |

It must have been quite the site to behold, and I will forever regret not being able to attend...
Thank you again, my friend... _________________ http://ladyrock.informe.com/ |

Ryuhi2 - thank you for your personal insight into what I am sure was a deeply moving day. We have been wating the You Tube footage and I have shed quite a few tears.
Whilst I wish I had been there, I suspect it would have been too much for me - so I thank you for being my voice. _________________ Stand up and Shout!!!!! |

Good post. Thanks again to all the people yesterday who not only paid their respects to Dio, but proved they were in general respectful folks with big hearts.

| Thanks for posting this. It must have been a special day. Hopefully those "church" protestors didn't show up? |
