In my opinion, These bands have stuck to their roots far more so than most in their genre......
Slayer: Some of their albums can be accused of being repetitive, but I find differences in every one of them. They have never strayed very far from the "thrashzone". With their past 2 albums, Christ Illusion and World Painted Blood, it seems the older they get and the more Grey Tom gets, the HEAVIER they get.....
Testament: I absolutely LOVE this band. As with Slayer, This band gets heavier and faster with time. Give their latest, The Formation of Damnation, a listen. In my own opinion it is the best effort they have put forth since The New Order in the late 80's. On a side note....vocalist Chuck Billy had a bout with cancer in the early 2000's, and he kicked it's ass!!
I took into consideration both bands musical libraries and histories. My vote came down to one main factor.........Alex Skolnick!!!! This man is simply an amazing musician. A legitmate Guitar God in my eyes. So, my vote goes for Testament.

Alex is it for me, too, and I would rather listen to Billy than Tom any day.. _________________ http://ladyrock.informe.com/ |

Have to agree with you guys. Neither band does it for me vocally, but Alex has always been one of my favorite guitarists, and he is also one of the nicest most approachable guys out there as well. I've even seen his Jazz trio twice, and he always takes time to mingle with people. He took my son Zack aside and talked to him 15 minutes about playing guitar, giving him tips and pointers. _________________ Check out Al Diamond Phillips/Nevermet on the web

That was VERY cool of Alex. I haven't been fortunate enough to see the A.S.T yet, I've been wanting to....But I have seen him twice with T.S.O, and both times he was the most approachable, and nicest member at the after show meet and greets. I took my copies of Testaments New Order, and Practice What You Preach, and he gladly signed both even though they weren't T.S.O merch. Security was rushing people through the "greets" but he did say how great he thinks it is when he sees Testament fans at the T.S.O shows. |
